Do we keep Sandow?

So Sandow VS Norman, who partners Foran next year? For me, it's Norman. He doesn't have Sandow's kicking game or flashiness but plays a very controlled game, has an improving kicking game, a decent passing game, his defence is better and he has great hands. He also seems to have a calmer temperament.

So for me, Norman gets the nod.

What does everyone else think?

Norman definitely. I don't think the kicking game next year will be as bad as everyone thinks, when Norman kicks he almost always finds space with the ball getting at least 1 bounce in before hitting a receiver. His kicking stats from Monday night's game read like this 8 kicks for 336 metres, which is 42 metres per kick. His biggest problem is kicking when inside the opposition's half but this is where Foran takes over the kicking duties and Kieran has a strong kicking game in that sense.

Most importantly, both Norman and Foran can and will stick to a game plan.

Very happy with the form of Norman. He has had a few lapses in defence but which half hasn't. If he keeps his form up, I guess we have no reason not to extend his contract. Hopefully 2015 will be the last we see of sandow.

I love Sandow's energy, his skill and his kickibg game - but eniugh is enough. He's terrible at defending, and he's costing us games.

I counted at least two times on Monday where he could have gone in to make a tackle, but instead retreated, leaving Morgan to make the tackle instead - and the Cowboys exposed that, made big metres and scored.

Get him out of here. Please.

If Sandow is retained I give up!
Yep, Monday nights game was a perfect example why he should be let go. He is just too big a liability in defence. And whatever he brings in attack is negated by how many tries he lets in. His edge was just diabolical and the Cowboys ran at it and scored at will. There is a reason he has never played finals footy.

There is no place and no need for rodeo clowns at Parra. Both the Sandclown and his rodeo clown mate Seph Paulo need to go.

"I don't know, Brad must have changed his coaching. I'm not bagging him": Sandow. Photo: Getty Images
Chris Sandow, a halfback so unpredictable that he is in Daly M medal contention during a year in which he has been dropped to reggies, has a message for coach Brad Arthur.

"If he lets me play how I want to play, we'll win more games," Sandow said.

I just want to play my own footy … I think it's something people come to watch.

And herein lies the conundrum for all concerned. Sandow came to Parramatta with much fanfare and a massive price tag, but hasn't consistently delivered. Under coach Stephen Kearney he was a square peg in a round hole, a free spirit trapped in a structured game plan that didn't suit him. Under subsequent coaches Ricky Stuart and Arthur, he has again teased with his talent but also spent time with feeder side Wentworthville. It appeared he had found the balance between playing off the cuff and to a game plan last year when he was awarded the Ken Thornett Medal. The enigmatic playmaker has been a star in the team's four wins this year, but his performances during the many losses have also prompted Arthur to drop him. If not for salary cap constraints, Luke Kelly would have been the halfback for much of the year.

Now Sandow, whose future is uncertain given the Eels don't intend to re-sign him, is again at the crossroads as he tries to find his niche.

"It's tough because last year I played my own footy under Brad," Sandow explained. "Something must have changed his mind about how he should play me, I'm not quite sure. He's the coach and the driver of the team so I've just got to follow his lead. But it's tough to play structured footy when I'm not built like that. It's just up to Brad. I've got to try to fit into his category, how he wants me to play. But like I said, what got me into the NRL is my own style of footy. It's pretty tough either way. It's the NRL, I should be adapting to his style of footy, but everyone doesn't come to see me play structured footy."

Sandow said he will try to fulfil whatever role Arthur outlines for him, but believes his best performances come when he is let off the leash.

"It's tough, I got Parramatta's players' player, last year and I was just playing on the back of the forwards and doing what I do best," he said.

"I don't know, Brad must have changed his coaching. I'm not bagging him, he's a great coach and I've got to adapt to whatever he says, he's the driver of the team. I've got to back him 100 per cent for what works for the team ... I need to speak to Brad about how he wants me to play because Normy [halves partner Corey Norman] is really direct, he's the director of the team. I like to sit out the back and chime in when I want. But I've got to speak to Brad about that.

"If he lets me play how I want to play, we'll win more games.

"That's just me personally, I'm always thinking like that. I just want to play my own footy … I think it's something people come to watch."

Asked if he was upset about the latest demotion to the Magpies, the 26-year-old said: "Yes and no. Everything happens for a reason. I went back to Wenty and it was a walk in the park, pretty much. I got back a week later. I've just got to worry about myself and not worry about people's opinion of me. I know myself personally how good I am and what I need to do to keep me in first grade."

After squandering a 24-point lead to the Cowboys, the Eels sit in last spot alongside Manly and are in danger of earning their third wooden spoon in four seasons. As they prepare to travel to Melbourne for a Monday night clash against the Storm minus their Origin stars, Sandow admitted he didn't know if he had a future in the NRL next year.

"I can't tell the future - I should see a psychic and ask them," he quipped.

"Playing NRL is not easy, everyone has got their opinion on the game, how it should be played and this and that. If you're not playing footy, you don't know what it's like."

His position is untenable for mine.

If it weren't for our f**ked up second tier cap I would simply just sack the selfish prick now and pay out the remainder of his deal. As it is I would rather cop Joseph Paulo in the halves if it meant having someone that puts in and plays to the game plan instead of going for the stupid short kick for himself as soon as the pressure is on.

What a stupid thing to publicly say. He knows we can't drop him anyway due to the cap. No chance he'd have said that if promoting Kelly was an option as he'd be sitting in reserves for the rest of the year

His quotes seem to be from a cocky player who has no self awareness. The reporter should have asked him the most direct questions. "Why during your career have you been the worst defensive player in the NRL and why have you never played finals footy?"

We need to sever our ties with this unpredictable free spirit.

I respect you more than you can imagine my friend. Your contributions here are second to none and I agree with you 100%.
