My whole point is, even tho Gidely's an Imbecile, his best position is fullback. Why bring Boyd when we already got 1, and Wes fills in nicely.

I have the feeling Gidley could become a casualty of Bennett's. Wes could slot somewhere in the backline and Gidley might end up getting punted.

Your first year will be basic from a backline perspective. Think '09 from a Saints perspective; little things first then big things when they can get their defense right.

Think the attack of Saints in the first 11 rounds of '11. You can look forward to that in two or three years. Guaranteed.

We have to take any player who is top 5 in the world if he wants to come, but we are now in the silly position of having our two best and highest paid players both being specialists in the same position - although both can play a heap of other positions as well.

If it was a perfect world and we could have our choice of any of the best players in the world to be our marquee signing, you would give that money to Gallen or Cameron Smith or Burgess or even Thurston - all guys who would fill positions we don't already have covered by our best player.

I'd like to see Gidley used as a starting hooker, and then move to a sort of "roving lock" position when, hopefully, Buderus comes on. Similar to the way the Roosters accommodated Pearce, Anasta and Carney all in the starting side last year. Gidley may not be the size of your typical backrower, but he has shown every week that he is capable of tackling and running into the big blokes closer to the middle of the field.

But in all likeliness, I see him playing in the #7 each week with Roberts and Stig running around for the Centurions.

There are probably five or six better fullbacks running around than Kurt.... There is probably one better hooker (after pre-season and some experience) I don't think his best position is fullback the more i think about it. How good has it been seeing Wes breaking tackles and beating men on kick returns (not saying he is a better fullback all round btw).

Kidley is a safe fullback but pretty impotent in attack. I'm with Burwood on the Gidley to hooker-->roving lock. He would make a THOUSAND tackles a game and probably make alot more metres than many of our forwards.

Do we really want Gidley in the middle making 40 tackles a game and getting hit by guys double the size of him, I know I sure dont. I think he'll play halfback.

Because he's our most important player and captain that has never played that style of game week in week out in his entire career. I know he's a tough bugger and I have no doubt he'd do a good job there but I dont think he should have so much pressure put on his body, the chance of injury would be double as likely at hooker. A few years ago I'd be all for it but with his dodgy knees now I can't see how he could cope with such an intense workload for the entire season. If Bennett plays him there I'll be happy as I trust his judgement but I know I want the best interest for Gids and getting hammered for 80 mins every week doesn't seem that great.

Why not? His motor/leadership and enthusiasm are great assets for him. Seems to play to his strengths if you ask me.

Yeah why should we play a player to his strengths... Play in the halves where he has shown time time again how terrible he is there...
