Why we even talking about this guy. The player the NRL is missing is Semi Radradra, Israel is just a poor mans Inglis

True! I don't see Folau being a fullback in any NRL teams the only thing he was great at was catching high balls on the wing.

The NRL shouldn't purse him. He turned his back on league to play AFL and turned his back on it again once his AFL career went bust by signing up with Union. He's allowed to have his opinions even if they are homophobic and people are welcome to judge him as being an idiot for them. The greatest backlash from his comments will ultimately be with sponsors, particularly Qantas but they are locked in as sponsors until 2020.

He is worth far more to the ARU than he is an NRL club. Can't see an NRL club splashing out the cash they or a French club would offer him.

I think if he leaves RU he also loses alot of his marketing oomph as he is the biggest property they have, so NRL TPAs might not cover the gap.

He'd expect far too much money for what he would be worth, but he'd still be one of if not the best winger in the comp.

There would be a dozen clubs mad not to take him in at the right price.

They're entitled to believe it. Something that exists in your head is not hate speech. When you air it in public, something like Israel did, it becomes hate speech..

“Hate speech” actually has some legal definitions, and as spurious as they are, what Israel said doesn’t come under any interpretation of it.

He gave a religious interpretation as to what will happen to gay people post-mortem, and as absurd as I find his views and religion, an employer reprimanding someone for a religious interpretation is not a path we want to be going down.

Let me put this scenario to you: a Wallabies player, who is an atheist, comes out and delivers gay hate speech. He says gays are disgusting or they're a lesser part of society (which is what sending them to hell insinuates). How much do you reckon said player will be fined or suspended? My guess is shitloads. Jacques Potgieter was fined $20000 simply for calling someone a twig (the F word) on field. That's a throwaway, unconsidered line. Not calculated and targeted like Folau. So why does Israel Folau get defended in press releases by the Waratahs and ARU for 'freedom of speech?" How are those two things different?

Because we're dancing around religion, right?

Hell is an abstract.

In order to believe it’s a bad thing you also have to believe in its existence.

Saying someone is a lesser part of society doesn’t require that belief, because we all know some people are treated unfairly.

So are we dancing around religion, or are we just not giving it credence? Careful what you legitimise.

Sorry, I don't buy into that. So gay people should just brush it off if they don't believe in hell? Completely ignore that it's yet another message in society that constructs them with less rights and standing?

If you don't give it credence it still fights against the right for gay people to be treated as the same as anyone else.

Forget the homophobic stuff. He shouldnt be brought back regardless....

RL gave him the chance at fame and fortune. He then takes the profile RL build for him and jumps the VFL/Union and tries to hurt RL with what it gave him.

Now he hasnt played RL in almost a decade, and his public relevance is genuinely at rock bottom (no one pays attention to his games anymore. He needs "minor-celebrity scandels" to get noticed.)

Why build up him profile again if he will most likely just jump ship back the VFL again later. He could have been remembered alongside the Immortals if he had stuck around, now im happy to see him fade pathetically into obscurity....

It’s a good thing that most people see hell as a silly abstract. It means religion is losing its power.

Gay people don’t have to ignore it, but I’d also warn against martyring Folau by seeking some type of punishment.

This is quite correct though Immortal status is WELL beyond him, even if he had stayed.
