He may be 2 or 3 times the price of the next level down but if he brings you a premiership, especially to a club like the Eels who have a sleeping giant fanbase, which you can clearly see by our climbing membership numbers with our consistent finals appearances since 2017. Brining in a premiership will bring in massive dollars through membership, merchandise and sponsorship.
Is the price of buying a premiership really worth the financial rewards? I feel like the Dragons and Sharks premierships just drained their coffers. I suspect the Cowboys benefactor lost interest in tipping money into them after their win as well. When the dust settles the footy is on again next year and the luck that helped a contender get over the other two or three contenders to lift the trophy that season probably won't be there in the same abundance in future years.
Flanagan is probably a better alternative but there is also a risk with his history that needs to be assessed before you could make that decision to bring him in. Not just from a sponsors point of view but have players in the NRL lost faith in him? Will he have their respect when he is ripping into them when they know he has cheated and been involved in scandalous activities?
Good point

And that is my ultimate question, they need to do their own analysis based on factors that not one single fan can comprehend. Fans just want to win, they don't care about anything other than a short term feeling but the choice very well may be winning a premiership sets us back 10 years because of the cost, is that worth it?

Dragons fans don't seem very happy at the moment.....when was their premiership again? 2010.......it is now 2021.

Flanagan probably comes cheaper because of the stink around him.......i think we should take the shot.......but i don't know enough about the inner workings of clubs OR players attitudes towards coaches with his shady history and how they may respect him.

For me personally, right now i would take a premiership and 10 years in the wilderness but that is MY personal opinion because I have never been a Parra supporter when we have won a premiership and i just really want that feeling before i die........

Parra won four premierships before my 11th birthday. I certainly didn't think 1986 was a big deal. Even though my family (on both sides) were all Parra fans I didn't even really care about the Eels until about 1992 after our massive five year finals drought. At the start of 1991 I was a half arsed Raiders fan, but on grand final day I remember realising that I hoped they would lose. Seeing the Panthers celebrating their first premiership in over 20 years made me realise what was important in footy. Start of '92 I was a Parra fan again and haven't looked back.

A few against sacking BA, is because no use sacking him if there isn’t a better option…..

and probably the best option Flanagan (and potentially better coach) has some questionable past offences…..

while is Bennett a realistic option? To expensive? Does he want to stay in Sydney?

Additionally giving a rookie a go is a big risk especially if they don’t have head coaching experience in the UK

Barrett, O’Brien, Holbrook, Brennan, Payten, all promising assistants have hardly set the NRL on fire.

however potentially rookie options may include Ryles, Ciraldo. WouId they be better then BA?

then there is long shot options in Kearney/Seibold (wouId they be better within a better system / with a better squad)?

so who is the best option? Is there a better option? Is it as simple as just sacking BA.

there is plenty to consider by the board…

I think this is why it's such a difficult decision - Brad Arthur doesn't seem capable of lifting us out of this hole we are in, but there aren't really any other reasonably risk-free options available.

Maybe the best option may be to move Murphy, and Kidwell, on, and promote and/or hire new assistants for Arthur.

People say big things about Ryan Carr.

The real question is why not persist with him. Because we got flogged by a couple of quality teams? That's happened to every coach, including in the finals.
Can you make me another coach who has been at the same club for 7 years and not made the grand final at least once?

yeah I’d hate to pay a coach close to a mill a year, for 3 years, jag a Comp in the second year, and then only be able to afford a 500k a year coach after that. In fact it’s one of my biggest fears in life. Maybe we should bring in a SK type coach, and see how that pans out. Nothing like scraping the bottom of the barrel.
