Dragons chase Jarryd Hayne

It's marketable, but in a market where 10 or so other teams are competing for limited resources, history doesn't count for much. I don't think it's as easy as you make out - and you aren't really offering any real solutions up. Much like you keep hearing "we can't", I keep hearing "we can" with no substance.

In order to place ourselves in a much better financial position, would you consider moving the team?
The only move we should make is back to Kogarah permanently.

Yeah it's a tough wait. Especially when you consider it's only just on November!!! At least another 4 or so months to go!!!

Look, I'm hoping we sign someone of quality as well, but I don't want to rush it - and I think Hayne could be a rushed decision. Problem is, we don't have that many options to choose from.

I know it’s been flogged to death, but rushed or not, Hayne at 500 a season for 1-2
Is a no brainer - for all the reasons previously mentioned.

I’m have a strong gut feeling the Dragons aren’t offering to pay overs so the way I look at it he either accepts or declines. I admit that I would like to see him come but really am ok if he doesn’t.

Yeh of course just when the Dragons may be procrastanating on a deal along comes the storey released by his management about the Dogs showing interest and his worth may be 700-800K now.
Pleeaasse...What happened to the 500K only Parra paid as his worth this year. I dont think that was too cheap on what he did this year. Dont fall for the sucker bet Basil...stick to your guns, if the fact is the Dragons are really inetrested.

I wasn't trying to run down NZ and how they bring through union players, I was merely trying to say that there are a lot of players who could succeed but never manage to crack it as a junior and thats the end of their careers.

I have seen any number of junior rep players who dont make it and come back to play A grade. The interesting thing is that there are established A graders who are the top players. Those players coming back are good players and at the top of the A grade tree but they often are not the best players. In short there is talent that does not get picked up when they are young and then is lost to the professional game even though they are capable of going further.
I wasn't suggesting you were Carlton. Not my intention at all. The All Blacks have a system and they are a small nation. Jeezuz I have a thick skin about being a sheep shagger. Good thing I don't have a penis. I was merely saying if you could convert a few to NRL we would be laughing mate. I read recently that Kalyn Ponga would give up league to be an AB. It's a tough nut to crack but I would give him a go. PS: I'm a little bit pished :):)

Haven’t we done that though? Essentially replaced like for like with the players we’ve bought?

Herbert – Pearson (some may even say this is a slight upgrade and providing specialist depth)

Garrick – Ravawla (haven’t seen much of Ravawla, but at a minimum would be like for like)

Sele – Timm (I suspect that this is more of a positional thing – Timm may be considered more of a prop than Sele was and so gives us more depth in a lacking position)

Ah Mau – Sims (I’m not sure about this swap as I was a LAM fan, but I am excited to see what Sims can bring to the table)

So then we have 2 spare positions to fill with, more than likely, at least 1 good back (as has been highlighted by recruitment).

Nighty might be hard to replace as, if reports are true, he took a pay cut to stay this year. So his salary alone won’t be enough to fund a like for like replacement as well as purchasing another quality back.

Like I said, will be interesting to see who we end up with. And we have until June to finalise the team.
Macdonald?
Dugan?

Indications are that he will accept 600k on a two year deal.

As a self confessed “Westie”, Hayne will look to stay as close to Parramatta as possible.

If the reports of Canterbury expressing interest are true, it’s pretty bloody blatantly obvious that’s where he’ll go.

I can envisage an indignant Millward stating that Saints never offered Hayne a genuine proposal (despite constant media speculation m), and that the club is happy to commence the 2019 season with two spots still available in its top 25 squad.

“The Dragons are always on the lookout for quality players and will continue to monitor the market. If someone suitable comes along we’ll approach that situation with due diligence”.

I can see it now.

I really hope he goes to the DOGS as they deserve him! I'd much rather the club kept Matt Dufty and took a punt with some youth.
Hayne reminds me of a combination between Benji & Duges!!
He plays the PR machine and dial a quote like Benji Marshall
His injury proneness seems to be on the Josh Dugan level

We all know how excited the fans got when we signed these 2 players and yet they rode off into the sunset leaving us disappointed and devoid of success. The Hayne Plane would simply be a repeat still under the same lame coaching.

It's smart to offer him the 500 and not budge. If he goes to a club with less chance of winning the comp, you know it's just about the $ for Hayne. If he comes to us for less than he could get elsewhere, you know he's coming to win a comp. Much better chance he puts in.

LOL, and let someone else tap into the Illawarra / South Coast region where the majority of the grade players come from. And someone smarter and better run historically would also tap into getting TPA's as a hell of lot more opportunities in those regions than the old St George shire and the Leagues Club wont help as much anymore.
As much as I love the St George area as born in it and we should retain Kogarah it aint the same football loving territory anymore
