If they sign Young, there is no way it’s feasible to only sign him on a 1 year deal. It creates so much instability and therefore an inability to recruit and retain without knowing who the coach is. It again would reinforce that the dragons are so unstable.

In the last 6 weeks all I want to see as a fan is continued improvement - this is something we haven’t seen for 2 1/2 years. Last week I think it was evident that Mary wasn’t coaching, the performance was very simple: kick early, chase hard and don’t let your mate down. That performance was shades of Bennett.

It’s clear that we have some talented young players - Dufty, Lomax, Host, Ravalawa. I just want to see those guys continue to improve. If Vaughan, Sims and Frizell don’t pick up their game, I think that would be a reflection of them rather than the coaching staff.

After 7 years it was evident that we needed a change, we were stale and after one good game would come 3 shocking games. In fairness, 2018 should’ve been Mary’s last. We had a premiership winning team and since Widdops injury, the wheels fell off.

If Young can continue to change the way we play and improve the young, clearly talented players we have maybe he isn’t the worst option.

Toovey has been overlooked for 5+ jobs, Griffin sacked from 2 clubs, they’re clearly not the answer - so who else? Shaun Wane has won 3 comps in England, but Ian Millward has won 2? Millward isn’t the answer, obviously. So is Wane the answer? Who knows, but wow what a risk he would be having never coached in Aus and then coming to a basket case club?
If Fitzgibbon doesn’t really want the job why bother chasing? Will he just quit us when a better job comes along? I cannot stress enough, we need stability to have any kind of meaningful future in the NRL.

Although I am opposed to any rookie coach being appointed, you make a number of very good points Unsaintly79.

I'm sure I've heard some of the regular hack journos bandwagon jumping, Dean Ritchie and Brent Reid for example, he just hates the Dragons and would love to see us continue to struggle under another below average rookie coach.

These guys live for stories of the Dragons woes as it sells papers and makes for good click bait due to the clubs huge following...
They are the biggest bunch of parasites. I don’t mind Weidler he’s ok at best but the rest of them can suck a fat one.

typical dragons - even the coach replacement has caveats and complexity.

Pretty confident that Flanno would be pick #1 but they gotta wait out the NRL ban.

It then opens them up to a classic Dragons move of keeping it in house and giving Young a chance while the wait out the ban.

Unless its star power bellamy or bennett - I cant see them going past flanno / young

Which marquee player would come to the Dragons to be coached by Young?

It will be interesting to see what announcement comes out after the Board Meeting tomorrow. Will Webb be more visible from now ? Will they keep members informed during the process or treat us with contempt as they have in recent times.

Dragons will no way appoint DY unless it’s a 1 year appointment with Flanno taking the reins in 22 and knowing who is who within the playing group.

Can you imagine the uproar from us fans surely they don’t want the same over an over.
It’s been proven we are a better club with outsiders taking the reins. I just can’t see the board being called to answer when things go south if the splint DY. Surely they will all need to be put on a bought sail them to the middle of the pacific and throw them overboard if they take these steps

Who knows? Cotric went to the Dogs who are placed last and had no coach. Fifita went to the Titans, Ponga went to the Knights to be coached by Brown? Money talks, but you need to be smart with how you spend it. Young has big wraps on him from Kristian Woolf & the Tongan team as well as the Indigenous All Starts - maybe he could turn TPJ career around? Or maybe he can't.

Undoubtedly, I'd love to have a Robinson or Bellamy at the club, but who is on the market who is going to better us? I say, at least we have the change we wanted & needed, albeit 2-3 years too late.

I think as supporters, we need to take be hopeful for the next 6 weeks, we need to see our younger players succeed and we need to see a different style of football from the one that's failed us.

Lets hope we see some of the uncapped juniors get some games, our young players are the only thing that will give us hope it seems.

I nearly kicked the TV tonight watching NRL 360 when the topic of Young came up.Kent, Rothfield & Baldy basic saying why not give Young the job now as they were "hearing good reports out of the Dragons " that he was a good coach. Would have learned under McGregor they said as well !! Jebus , nobody came up with how selecting a former passionate player to coach has worked out the past 20 years !! This sticks out like Dogs balls .The danger of making him interum for 2021 as well is what if he gets great results .They will have 2 x fully paid up NRL coaches on their books.

Well I never wanted Young appointed as interim coach mainly because it will be the same mistake as the one we made with Mary. I came out early on the Price appointment and on the Mary appointment and I have the same gut feeling with Young.

If Young took on Pangai Jr and made a success of turning him around, I would be very surprised however, this would go a long way towards convincing me he is not just a repeat of the Mary failed era.

I am not sure is calling the shots right now with regards to recruitment but imagine it is Millward. We need Pangai Jr and a top-grade replacement for Frizell in the forwards. Falou at fullback and Dufty at five-eighth would give us a big chance in 2021.

So, Dean Young should step up to the plate and demand Millward recruit Pangai Jr, Falou and a good replacement for Frizell to show us all he is in charge and has the confidence to blend these new players into our 17. Dragons fans need to have confidence that we will be competitive in 2021. By the way, both Pangai Jr and Falou are available for the remainder of this season. So why not trial them both with a view to giving them longer term contracts from 2021 on.

Maybe we can do a swap between Norman and a top back-row forward in the ESL. Right now we have more than enough backup for the five-eighth position and at a much better price.

This is the exact reason I would have been happy to let Mary have 2021. At least that’s just 12 months or less and if Young took over in late 2021 it would definitely be interim as Bennet etc would be available.

Every coach carries some risk but as sure as night follows day, you won't get stability with Dean Young. Ridiculous that he would be seriously considered, irrespective of the next 6 weeks.

And the 4 people that voted for Young in the poll should be banned from the forum. It's about time we introduced minimum IQ thresholds.

In all honesty, I can only see 2 coaching scenarios for 2021:

Flanno & Young (Assistant)
or
Young & Flanno (Assistant)

It all depends on the NRL and if they will reduce a year off the suspension to Flanno.
Too many other candidates that seem locked into contracts & unavailable.
