Makes me very nervous reading snippets in the press stating the job is Dean Youngs to lose. Only 36 years old, never been a head coach, reference to his work ethic which occured with Mary, learnt under Mary & been part of a losing culture since he started as an assistant in 2014. Reads beautifully.....

Anyway, I have a theory on why Wayne Bennett is a strong chance to come back. He's publicly stated he wishes to continue as a head coach. He also has Jason Demetriou signed and sealed to take over at Souths after next season. Looking at all of the other clubs there really isn't any club Wayne will get an opportunity at in the next couple of years. Dragons may well be his only option
I’m not keen on a head coach that’s younger than nearly everyone in this forum.

I'm feeling Dean Young will be our next head coach. Basically, by last man standing principle.

His job to lose over the next 6 weeks.

Not even our Board will try and get away with this. I've heard rumors from even earlier this year that Dean was not keen on a full NRL coach's role, particularly when seeing what his mate was going through.Webb's comment last week about Youngs reaction to being offered the interim role was that he "seemed willing but nervous " doesn't come across as someone with a lot of ambition for the role. I also think his Dad would want his position on the Board back and the fact that he stood down temporarily suggest's that Dean would only apply for the job full time to make up the numbers but behind the scenes tell the board he doesn't want it.

"I dont think Young is going to be coach in 2021.

The rumour was the coach they want is not available atm. Take that as you wish."

Well which one is correct DS ?

I have no issue with Dean Young coaching us, nor Mary for that matter. I think it’s great we produce our players and coaches. What I have an issue with is them not doing an apprenticeship. Dean could make a great coach someday but we need him to get experience under a top line coach and then get a head super league role first. Once he’s had some success I’d more than welcome him back. He’s 10 years away for mine. Fitzgibbon I would consider mainly because he comes from a great system and has already worked in the state of origin setup.

Process of elimination DP.
Wane has ruled himself out
Ryles going to Eng Rugby
Fitzy says he wont apply
Flanno cannot until 2022

Who else is 'unavailable' besides Bennet and I dont think they will run with as a HC, maybe in a GM role but not HC.

The Cows havent announced their new coach as yet. So one if the pending coaches will get that job.

Add to the comments made:
"His job to lose"
"6 weeks to prove himself"
His father stepping aside from the Board etc.

Maybe, the person they wanted, just doesnt want the job!

Anasta said Fitzy won’t apply, they have to offer it point blank. That means to me that he hasn’t flat out said no. It’s highly doubtful but I think if we go and have a chat with him, it will at least give him food for thought. The others are definitely not going to happen imo.

Who made the comments job to lose etc ? I saw this on face book and they could only be attributed to a low brow site which didn't even have the guts to put a name on it. No credibility whatsoever. Does his father intend to get his job back , as his resignation should be permanent if junior gets the full gig.I dont think so.

My gut says they want Benny and he wouldn’t want to commit whilst A: he is in charge at Souths and B: Mary was still in charge at Saints.
Mary is now gone and Demetriou is ready to take over Souths in 2022. If Saints approached Benny for 2021 I’m sure Souths would more than likely release him 12 months early as they would be comfortable with Demetriou taking over then.
Releasing Aitken without even offering a contract, releasing Lafai etc tells me someone is getting info from somewhere about 2021

If Wane has ruled himself out, the other Wayne is my pick, then Griffin and Lastly Flanno if available.

I’m sure Bennett wants to continue in some coaching capacity post Souths. I’d like Bennett at Saints for the following 2 years monitoring Young if Young is considered NRL coaching standard. Souths have a succession plan how about they bring it forward by 1 season.
I should state that like some StG board members I’m pissed off if in fact Bennett reneiged on a handshake agreement with Doust as has been reported.
StG must not pick another first timer from within its own environment. After Browny, Price McDud I hope they have learnt something.

I'm sure I've heard some of the regular hack journos bandwagon jumping, Dean Ritchie and Brent Reid for example, he just hates the Dragons and would love to see us continue to struggle under another below average rookie coach.

These guys live for stories of the Dragons woes as it sells papers and makes for good click bait due to the clubs huge following...

If Saints go for a Rookie, why go for Young who has been part of the coach they jut sacked staff all his coaching career and not Fitzy or Ryles who have been part of the successful coaches staff. Those 2 are the picks for Rookies that is for sure.

I honestly think Saints will try and get Flanno's ban reduced and go for him and it will all depend on what happens there as to which direction they go. He seems to be their No.1 choice.

To be abundantly clear, I'm in no favour of having Young as our coach past this 6 game stint.

At this stage we dont know who has applied (if anyone atm). Ths Board is supposed to meet tomorrow to discuss the process, which I assume then applications would come in over the coming weeks for interviews etc.

We all have our 'prefereces' to who should be our coach moving into 2021 and there are a host of names, the usual suspects, being bandied about.

It would be foolhardy to appoint a caretaker for 2021 with a view to appointing Flannagan later. That decision would have to be made almost now as he isnt signed past this year. But what if the caretaker gets us deep into the finals etc?
The only 'caretaker coach that would make sense is Shepherd, if Flannos the one they want.

No offence to DY, absolute champion of a player but if the board use the next 6 games, 3 of which are against teams below us as the gauge for success then they’re dumber than I thought. Zero experience, assistant to numnuts. At least Fitzy has been locked away learning at the chooks who have been on fire whilst he has been Robinson’s right hand man

I read somewhere (?) that the individual that they were considering “ was not available at this time “ ?

So that could possibly be Bennett as Dragonslayer has suggested . They cannot approach him as he is still under contract , which is a trait of Bennett - “ no I am under contract and am not going anywhere - no we are not interested in Roberts - Latrell Mitchell nor for that matter the man in the moon “ .

Of course everything is merely conjecture at this stage and the media will say anything, but nobody really knows . We can only hope that J.V. hierarchy have turned the corner and sign the very best that is available .

And this where the Gordons come into play , they have the money required to ensure that a most capable coach is under contract at the Dragons for at least the next 3 years .

Dean Young’s job to lose.

Luckily for him the next 6 weeks of the draw is not too bad.

Give him a 3 year deal if he wins half the remaining matches.

Enjoy the ride.

lol.

If they do appoint Dean Young I hope it is only on a year to see how he goes and then wait till the end of the year at least to extend not after he wins a handful of games to offer him 3 years. If they offer Dean 3 years if he has 6 good games then that will be disappointing. 1 step forward 2 steps back.
