Wait until July/August at very least before thinking of offering an extension....

Happy with the last 3 weeks (although Sunday was a bit of a drop) however questions need to be asked still and Price still hasn't quite proved himself yet, I think even he will admit that. You will get a getter picture later in the year...

The improvement shown in the last 3 weeks, was it a result of emotion because the players knew price was under pressure or are they starting to buy his story?

If it's emotion then it won't last long.

3 wins:
1. a solid effort against an out of form sharks
2. struggled to defeat a newcastle team who last week struggled to beat the panthers in one of the worst games of footy i have seen
3. just held on against a tigers team who are also out of form, lost three in a row and were without Benji Marshall..

i wouldnt rush out an extend Prices contract just yet... i am keen to see how they go against the roosters, eagles and titans the next three rounds...

I still dont know if our recent turn-around in attack (playing less structured) & finally seeing some young players get a run (if only briefly) has anything to do with Price (and if so what was the go in 2012?). Unfortunately none of us know what shinanigans have been going on with old-heads / Price / Coaching Staff / Board.

I still want Price Diced asap, but fully admit its doing noone any favours to be holding it over his head for so long, and being linked to every coach and his dog who is off contract.

The uncertainty is worse for player attraction than anything - while I believe that no player would turn down a club offer purely based on Price being coach, I have no doubt that not knowing who the coach will be is a bit of a turn off...

I agree that you wouldn't base your choice purely on Price as a coach but with a poor record then it is a negative weighting.
On the positive side it must be said that Price has demonstrated loyalty to his players and his selections are becoming more predictable is he becomes more familiar with the strengths and limitations of given players

Arthur in line to replace Price
Date
April 21, 2013
Michael Carayannis, Michael Chammas

St George Illawarra have targeted Manly assistant coach Brad Arthur as a possible long-term replacement for under-fire coach Steve Price with his strong ties to new recruits Gareth Widdop and Joel Thompson an added trump card.

Fairfax Media understands Arthur's manager Chris Orr has held preliminary discussions with Dragons management about Arthur taking charge of the Dragons from 2014. The coaching future is expected to be discussed at a board meeting on Tuesday night after Arthur rejected interest in joining English Super League club Salford.

Despite winning three games in a row Price's future has been thrown into question. The off-contract coach has taken a back seat in forward planning at the club, with boss Peter Doust and recruitment manager Craig Young taking charge of the Dragons' 2014 roster.

Arthur's relationship with incoming star recruit Gareth Widdop, since Widdop started under Arthur as part of Melbourne's under-20s team, sets him up as a key appointment at the Dragons. Arthur has maintained a strong friendship with the Melbourne Storm premiership-winning five-eighth who signed a four-year deal with St George Illawarra on Friday. Widdop kicked the winning goal to lead Arthur's Storm team to a 2009 under-20s grand final victory. Arthur has also tracked the progress of fellow new Dragons recruit Joel Thompson, who was part of the Storm set-up before joining the Raiders.

He joined Manly as Geoff Toovey's assistant this year having followed Stephen Kearney from Melbourne to Parramatta in 2011 to be Kearney's right-hand man. When Kearney was sacked late last year, Arthur took charge for the final six games of last season, winning his first two of three games. He relocated to Manly on a two-year deal when he was told he would not be part of Ricky Stuart's NRL coaching staff at the Eels.

The indecision caps a turbulent time for the Dragons, who along with Price have captain Ben Creagh and veterans Nathan Fien, Matt Cooper and Michael Weyman off-contract as well as young hooker Mitch Rein.

Why would we go from appointing an assistant coach that hasn't yet got it together, to another assistant coach who might not make it in the NRL? Doesn't make sense to me.

Price sounds likes hes already out.. though I am also surprised they would look at someone new like Arthur who ive frankly never heard of.

The link with Widdup seems a bit abstract at best, conceivably it was related to Widdup's signup with us, but hes probably had dozens of coaches in his time.

Getting sick and tired of all these stories about coachs and players that are supposed to be coming to the Dragons!!! Before you replace Price you actually need to replace him with somebody better!!! Of the so called coachs available on the market I dont believe there is anyone out there better than him!! So sign Price now!!!!! and sign Dugan now as well!!!

What a dump idea and stupid story, why on earth would the Dragons go from Price who has been at the club, clocked up some years experience, with lower grades, 3 yr apprenticeship under Bennett, then the pit fire of uncertainty for 2 years with a aging, hatched together squad and go to this Brad Arthur clown? Beyond belief........

Only real world option, I see is keep Price, hire Sheens as coaching director....there are no other experienced Coaches sitting around, unless u throw a bone to Daniel Anderson ?

I can't believe what doust and young are doing. There taking control of the club signing the players they want. Ummm hello who's the coach. I feel sorry for pricey they should give him an extension and let him contribute to the players he wants, and now they want to sign brad Arthur. Price is to patient and has no say at all. If I was price I will quit

This report about Brad Arthur must be wrong. It doesn't make any sense at all! I haven't been a Price supporter but I'd take Price over Arthur any day. Praying this is wrong and just a deflection tactic to take the heat off of who the real target may be - Tim Sheens.

I believe your right in part. My take on all of this is that Price has been told he will not be coach next year and that is why Doust and Young have taken complete control of recruitment.

Tim Sheens has obviously told Doust that he does not want Folkes as assistant next year and so the search for an assistant coach.

Brad Athur is probably one of a few names Sheens has given to Doust as a possible assistant.

this is all making me ill . sheens or arthur over steve price , who has been mentioned many times by people who know coaching [ wayne bennet , warren ryan etc ] that pricey is a good choice for a long term coaching job at the mighty dragons . FFS the players support him and he has done the time over 9 or 10 tears at our famous club and we need to keep someone long term . not a dinasaur or a newbie.
