Dragons Coach For 2014

I've been a strident critic. But, suddenly, in the last two weeks, we've finally changed things up.

All power and respect to the coach. I don't have any grounds to continue in this thread.

I really hope the guy is a 10 year coach for us. I've doubted his ability, point blank, to do it.

I won't sit back and take pot shots when we lose. I believe we're a good, honest team. And I believe we have a lot of upside.

If we recruit well for the areas we are lacking in, then we are in to another premiership window a lot sooner than I thought we would be.

Kudos to the coach.

Happy the way he is going but again i'll reserve my judgement until Oct this year.

Want him to do well, and I suppose the difference this year is that there has been improvement in the team. You can see they are growing little by little.

Too early to tell though...

I hope the club sticks with him and gives him a chance with some better cattle. He is proving that he can coach IMHO and the players seem happy the be coached by him. That's a strong endorsement for Steve Price methinks.

The difference I can see is the attitude of the players. I've always believed that Steve Price could coach. Good coaches always have to start somewhere. When the team isn't firing, he can't go onto the field and hold their hand and tell them where they should and shouldn't be. The players are responsible for the performance. The coach gives them the plan and it's up to them to execute. It looks like the players are finally buying into the Steve Price plan. He's been with the club long enough to understand the culture and what is expected. I hope he's here for the long haul.

Reserve judgement? I don't think you have. You can't have it both ways champ...

you cant have it both ways mate
you cant praise Price for playing Fien as it was his only option (why praise a coach for backing himself into a corner??)

and then bag Drinkwater for not being NRL material... Price recruited Drinkwater, so the buck stops with Price either

way...

no we have issues with being strategic with our recruitment. that doesnt necessarily mean big

names.

Bennett was strategic with our recruitment, and that also included signing players that werent necessarily big names, but

players that filled strategic voids in our roster.
this is where i see Price failing at the moment. he seems to sign players that we already have an abundance of, eg outside

backs and back rowers, however has been neglecting the crucial spine roles, or a triangle bench player.

more dissapointed rather than angry at the moment.. i hate seeing what the team has become in

such a short period.
its not the losses that hurt, every team goes through that at some stage, but its more the way we are playing and more

painfully the fact that nothing seems to be happening to address any of the problems..
having gone through the pain of the Nathan Brown years, and then seeing it all turn around with the Bennett years, its so

dissapointing to see the club repeat the same mistakes again.. i would have hoped the club would have learnt a lesson or

two on what it takes to be successful, but obviously not...

LOL @ personal bias statement..
nothing personal, i just see glaring weaknesses in Price's ability to turn the club around.
he seems to be one step behind the pack, when the smart coaches are one step ahead..

PS - Bennett already negotiating with Ben Hunt for 2014. A player most would agree and have mentioned many months ago that

the dragons should be pursuing... i doubt Price/Doust are smart enough to realise what a good addition to the club Hunt

would be... perhaps Price is happy with Fien until Fien announces his retirement... then press the panic button and

scramble to recruit anyone that hasnt already been signed by the coaches that plan ahead

when Price gets sacked will be the first victory for the club.

LOL @ Price.
Round three and already he is out of answers...well played Mr.Price. you get what you deserve after neglecting the need for

a half and centre since the end of 2011...

there is ZERO point in letting Price do any further recruitment - he wont be there for next

season, and possibly most of this season..
the first thing we MUST do is address the coaching problem.. then bring in a new coach and let him do some recruitment

before the June deadline.. dont let Price use the money we have spare and then have a new coach inherit the rubbish Price

continues to recruit.

keep the young up and comers AWAY from first grade until we get a decent coach/mentor...

having them exposed to Price's coaching will only harm their development.

i just hope that Price gets sacked before the deal is finalised... and the new coach cancels

the contract negotiations..

correct.
Price/Young clueless...

I know its a pessimistic view, but I believe there is shinanigans & head-clashing going on behind the scenes based on the sudden change in coaching philosophy, its just a question of who is getting their way, we will know more in another 1-2 months, I do like that things are starting to change with strategy, selections and recruitment lately, its a good start.

But I think Price is too young to be as stubborn as he is, it works for Wayne, but for someone so young he cant rely on his aura/man-skills, he needs to be strategically ahead of the game, to me he is always 4-8 weeks behind whats going on.

currently as you have given evidence i am in the "Price isnt the answer" category.. yes my posts reflect that.. and i still believe he isnt the answer..

however as i stated after week 8 if we are 5 wins and 3 losses and more importantly playing a good brand of footy then of course i am happy to review my position and potentially change my view on Price and his ability... but as a team we are no where near that yet, and Price still has a lot to do.

havent you ever changed your opinion from your initial opinion on anything if there is enough evidence to support the change?
whats wrong with that???

I think there are many here who will hopefully have egg on our faces,me included. There was a time last season where i was beginning to p*ssed off at Price with the way we were bumbling through games at times.
It is early to judge but we are on the right track so hopefully we will keep improving.
All coaches have to start somewhere.

The changes made are in the right direction and should have been made last year. What caused the change is the real question if we are to decide on the coach for next year.

Let's see what happens over the next few weeks. My feeling is that Sheens will be on board for 2014 and I hope he appoints Price as his assistant coach.

Ronnie Dobbs put it best IMO when he said he hoped Price would be a career coach at the dragons, however he doubts he has the ability to do so..

i think that best sums it up. We all hope the coach and players succeed, however of course as passionate supporters we criticise those who dont.

I have indeed. Where this differs however, is you have made judgements. Several of them. Then you have stated that you're reserving judgement now that things have picked up for the team and Price. If we were still struggling, you'd probably be referencing your initial thoughts, saying I told you so.

I'm not being overly critical of you here Red, just saying your previous post made me laugh.

i would have thought in order to have an opinion on something you would have needed to make a judgement on it first??? ... but all good gypsy.... not offended at all...

It just depends on what you class as making a judgement.

I'd say those are, but it's just my opinion. Go the Dragons mate.

Mr Red you went further than that mate.
Don't you recall the 'we all hate Price' remark?

I do. I don't call that reserving judgment.

In any event, two swallows do not a summer make. I said all of last year that Price's challenge for this season was to show improvement over last year's showing. So far hes 2 from 5, so that's not a good start at all, albeit that the last two weeks have shown some promise. If the scuttlebutt about Sheens for 2014 transpires it's all moot anyway.

I feel for the guy really. Loss of key personnel early in the season in critical positions that he struggled with all last season, coupled with little by way of talent procurement on the club's part, is making his job no easier.

Perhaps it was a typo by Mr Red... instead of "I'm reserving judgment until round 8" what he meant to type was the similar: "I'm not reversing judgment until round 8"

Considering 2 of the losses were in Melbourne and canberra, where we never win, and that he's lost Stanley, Weyman, King and now Beale to injury, Price is not doing too bad at all
