Why are all 3 Queensland teams at home? It's still blazing hot in Queensland at the start of March, will all 3 be away in round 2? Will we get a similar farce like last season where no Queensland team played at home on the Easter holiday weekend?

No match in New Zealand or Melbourne in round 1 is also utter stupidity, the AFL season hasn't started and there should always be a match in NZ round 1 to hype the season up across the Tasman.

Short of playing no games in QLD for the first month, it's a reality.

The Cricket World Cup and A-League schedules, plus Super Rugby all being on - probably don't help.

OT, it's not just NRL management that have stuffed up the draw. I made a comment about this over in the cricket section of the forums, but the venue allocation for the World Cup matches is also stuffed up.

30 games too many? I know soccer is different but EPL sides play 38 match seasons plus for the bigger sides extra champions league and cup games as well. Expand the squad size and cap by a bit and get some depth and squad rotation. Not hard.

I agree. The pre-season trials should count. Maybe a win is 1 point. ALL players can only play a set amount of games or a mximum amount of say 20-24 games.

If Timmahs post is correct where on earth has the TRADITIONAL easts v souths season opener gone?? A game that has proved a ratings and crowd winner for multiple seasons a trend that would only continue.

Instead we get the broncos v souths, no doubt pushed by channel neinin the vain hope the broncos are even 10% better than there woeful showing for the past 3 years. Oh wait they have no fullbacks now hahahahaha

If the rest of the draw is balanced, more fan friendly and increased day time football then i can't complain but that will turn out to be wishful thinking

The QLD games will be at night.
Do you expect them to be on the road for the first month every year?
Also home and away games don't alternate in turn so wait until roud 2 is announced before bagging it.

That's a good point actually. The first round is a good round to sneak a few dud games through.

No matter who plays who, Round 1 is always a tipsters nightmare.

Only issue I have with Round 1 is that the Storm Dragons game is not in Melboune on that Monday night.

Public Holiday in Melbourne that day and AFL hasn't started I believe.

I realise that some traditions can hold the game back, but I am not a fan of dumping the traditional roosters v souths round 1 game. Some things should not be changed for the sake of TV networks
