F*ck it. Schedule SOO on ANZAC Day. It's our day not theirs.

It's the centenary every one will be trying to get their piece of the pie. Aus v NZ will be the centerpiece..

AFL has f**kin highjacked Anzac day next year.
5 games, yes 5 games on the Anzac Saturday.

They even have one in f**kin NZ. ? Someone should f**kin complain, like i am doing.

If the NRL had any f**kin brains whatsoever, they would play two or three test matches on Anzac day and shut the day so NZ and Australia, PNG and Fiji Tonga and Samoa can all play on that one day.
It will then make a mockery of the AFL bullshite club games trying to highjack Australia's rememberence day, with our countries not clubs involved.

The NRL has no brains tho.
The AFL got in early and will reap the rewards.
While our stupid code worries about who calls it merkins............

Anyone heard anything more re this?
It was December 4 when it was released last year

Things we do know
Season will start on Thursday March 5th in Sydney with the Cricket World cup still a few weeks away from concluding.
& id bet pounds to pennies itll involve Souths
Its the Roosters turn to host the game so it may very well be at Allianz too
Friday will almost certainly be the Broncos & Cowboys at Suncorp

Other games that could be part of round 1 in a big start to the season
SAT 5.30
NZ V Storm
SAT 7.30
Panthers v Bulldogs
SAT 8.30
Titans v Manly
SUN 4.00 (ch9)
Dragons v Tigers ANZ
SUN 6.30
Knights V Parramatta
MON 7.00
Raiders v Sharks
Parra v Manly to open the season, you didn't read it here first

It does seem though the NRL may have fumbled the Anzac scheduling in terms of booking stadia.

AFL are in Wellington, Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide & Perth that day.

Super Rugby is in Christchurch & Sydney but they booked Canberra for the Friday which is ideally when the Raiders should be playing (Anzac Eve) every year.

As Auckland is free that Saturday is it also worthwhile breaking with tradition for 1 year so that the Warriors can host a game in Auckland next year? Or perhaps have a club.

Ideally you'd want

  • A game in Auckland @ 4pm local (2pm EST) - it'd have to be the Warriors though
  • The SFS match as is @ 4pm
  • Storm @ home 6pm - if not against the Warriors then maybe Sea Eagles
  • Broncos @ home Saturday 8pm preferably against Rabbitohs if we want that to become a tradition -- so that'd be 4 games on the Saturday in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne & Auckland -- which would be ideal
  • Raiders @ home - but as the Friday's booked & Saturday's quite full maybe it's an opportunity for a Thursday match (to start Anzac remembrance events) or a Sunday arvo game to close out the round
  • Cowboys @ home but given Saturdays schedule it might have to be the Friday night
  • Sunday Arvo - a big all Sydney game at Stadium Australia, something like Tigers vs Bulldogs @ Stadium Australia

So it would be a foxtel match then

Interesting
Parramatta Stadium would be sold out even on a Thursday with Watmough taking on his old joint in Rnd 1
I like it ;-)

They wont move the Warriors away from Melb on ANZAC day
Its the Storms biggest H&A game
& works well with the AFLs game earlier in the day

Sydney at 4
Melb at 6
Brisb at 8

100k plus in attendance
Thats a good mix ..lets work on building this as our tradition.on this day each year

Canberra also has an AFL game on anzac day

Fair enough, just assumed that GWS were playing at home.

I'd still say the better option is for the Raiders to play on the Thursday and make it a big event.

Well I posed it more as a question more than anything else considering that Wellington & Christchurch are booked but Auckland is free and it's a Saturday.

Ideally a 2nd NZ team would be playing in Wellington every Anzac Day.

And lets not forget these games probably being played in Adelaide, Perth and Melbourne (during the day) which none will have an effect on the NRL.

So we'll be expecting the usual:

Dragons Vs Roosters (4pm kick off, Ch 9)
Storm Vs Warriors (6pm kick off Fox)

Also an 8pm kick off game, maybe another Sydney game or a Queensland game, Titans or Cowboys, because you would probably have Broncos Vs Souths on the Friday night.

we always play in melbourne with AFL on, right? so thats fine. and its only 1 game.

AFL isnt in brisbane and they're not in sydney.

keep the usual, Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney trio and pull 100k as per normal.

Yes, the Storm/Warriors game works cause its bascially straight after AFL, only a 5-10 minute walk from the MCG, and a lot of those fans attend the Storm game, as there is a special 2 for 1 deal or a discount to the NRL game, something like that.
