Drop him

He'll keep picking him Bubbles, but I'm not convinced it's helping him.

With any luck, and a dry track, he'll carve the Cows on the weekend and get back to somewhere near reasonable.

i know benji personally and i can tell you that his low confidence is not only due to football, this guy does hav a life OUTSIDE football and part of wats going on in that life is havign an effect on his game!

i spoke to him last nite and he was telling me about how upset he was with his own game and how much of an effect these "external factors" hav had on him. so giv the guy a break he'll be back to top form soon.

and whoever said drop tuiaki is a dead set MORON, you obviously missed his great pik up and try at the end and his wonderful burst down the sideline. sure he dropped a couple of balls but so did mason and hes a SOO player and so did did countless utha players, it jst wasnt a night for good ball handling.

The boys were far from their best tonite and from speaking to most of them they know they were well below par, dont worry the boyz will back and ready to fire agaisnt the cowgirls

Fitzhenry, Morris and Junior Burger between them don't have 1% of the talent that our #6 has.

He wouldn't bother spraying them because those useless ****s only have first gear in their repertoire and he knows it. It'd be like him coming out and giving TNT a spray, pointless.

Benji has 5 gears and has only used one of them in 2 years. My old man reckons he's gone and that he'll never be any good, I hope my old man is wrong.

And when Benji was ordinary at the back of last year, what position was he playing ? Who played him there and said he'd be our Thurston ? And why wasn't he in the 6 ? And who signed the ****wit that made a pig's ear of the 7 which meant one of the world's best 5/8s had to make a comeback in a foreign position ? I await all answers eagerly

When the Tigers have their next bye, he should be made to play reggies that week against some weaker sides, just to get him some game time and match fitness, a bit of confidence etc

Benji's kicking has been a weakness for a while. He can get plenty of metres, but his direction is lacking.

If we are bogged down in our half and it's wet, we should be playing a fast game from dummy half. We're one of the best dummy half running team in the comp (if not, the best) and in wet conditions, dummy half runs are a safe strong option.

Kicking for touch shouldn't be an option, keep the ball in play after a fast set and keep the opposition on the back foot.

It's simple ****ing footy.

Kicking early loses us metres and doesn't reduce any pressure at all, especially when playing against a bigger pack.

Spot on re Benji - form is temporary, class is permanent and Benji has class in spades. The cowboys is a perfect game for us to put a score on and for Benji to get some confidence back.

And remember what the alternative is

As for us in the wet ... those x-blades are a load of ****
Have a look how we get pushed around ... it's not a size issue, it's a grip issue

yer i can vouch for that, i used the same boots as benji for the first couple of games this season, both in the rain....both times i slipped over and made a fool of myself on countless occasions due to lack of boot support the blades hav no flexibility and strength in them.

Its Nike For me now!

The players said as much before the WCC game in England a couple of years ago
They'd be best off switching to one of the proper boot makers - esp in the wet
A good touch footy shoe maketh not a good boot

Firstly, I've never said a bad work about the bloke. Secondly, this isn't about whether he is a nice bloke or not, or if he has some outside troubles, it's about his on-field performances.

He isn't playing well enough to be a stop-gap 5/8. The only reason he is being kept in the team is a lack of options and the knowledge that if he can snap out of his current malaise, he is the most devastating attacking player in either Rugby code anywhere on the planet.

i know benji personally and i can tell you that his low confidence is not only due to football, this guy does hav a life OUTSIDE football and part of wats going on in that life is havign an effect on his game!

Seriously, you need to never talk like that here again.

i spoke to him last nite and he was telling me about how upset he was with his own game and how much of an effect these "external factors" hav had on him. so giv the guy a break he'll be back to top form soon.

Or that.

Tuiaki is dead average, I'd prefer Fitzhenry on the wing to him. TNT is just plain lazy and if Fitzhenry gave us nothing else he gave us plenty of work. TNT needs a rocket up his arse or a spot in the reggies.

TBH, I expected us to lose by more than we did and I thought that the effort was pretty good last night.

We'll murder the cows.

I thought the effort was very very good last night. Probably the best since the cowboys. Yeah we ****ed up but we kept tackling, we had little field position and in the wet we dug in and made a game of it against a contender. We are also without Payten and had no props on the bench which is a massive factor in conditions like last night.

I was expecting a parra style thumping like the monday night game last yr. We should draw a lot of confidence out of last night.

Benji was playing in the worst conditions against a top team of big boys last night, of course he is going to have condidence issues, especially when he is under the pump by his coach to take a few risks, talk about added pressure. I think they did well to cover Benji in defense tonight (to me it seemed obvious that the plan was to cover him (Heighno seemed to have an eye on him it looked planned to me), I think Sheens really wanted Benji do some playmaking/kicking attack role, but it didnt work out for him. I dont think benjis role was to concentrate on defense but rather to pass to one of the bigger boys and take some kicks. The spray from Sheens had nothing to do with his game this time, it was the poor conditions and a game plan that just didnt come off the way it could of.
Next weeks game is a great opportunity for Benji to up his confidence, I just hope it isnt a wet day.
As for the X-Blades, I hear that all the time about those, are they seriously that shocking? We were pretty slow on the chase last night whereas Roosters were pretty quick, could be the boots playing a factor on that.

Benji wasn't the only player playing against the Roosters though Mish.

Robbie has less time to get kicks away from dummy half, yet he has no dramas getting great kicks away, why is Benji having problems when he's either first or second receiver, with more time and space?

And that is the sole reason that he won't be dropped.

It's a similar situation to Pat Richards in '05. He was never in any danger of being dropped despite is **** form because of what he could have brought to the team in a split second. It's the same as Marshall, while able to walk, he will be in Firsts.

Bunji was horrible last night.

He has to take on the line again. He is just soooo one dimensional atm.

And his tackling looks half hearted to say the least.

I wouldnt be dropping him,but Id be getting into him to step annd run a little more.To me it looks like Sheens is telling him not to and kcik more which if so is dead set crazy.

And to be honest, up until now I've been ok with it. But he needs something to get his old verve back and maybe a week in reggies will help.

Well, this week should be like reggies anyway, the Cows are at about 20%...

There was one sideways run that he started where you could see that he was thinking about stepping. The Roosters just sat back and let him run sideways....
