Yes but you are not a young and talented footballer with the proverbial world at your feet.

For someone in the Raiders junior system since mid teens do you honestly think the big city and bright lights wouldn't be a massive factor in them wanting to explore their options?

A lot of people who grow up in the 'bush' actually hate the prospect of living in the city.

I live in the exact area that is considered by many as the best part of Sydney (live in Coogee, work at Bondi Beach) and I definately love it, but I'd rather be back home in QLD anyday if I could do the same job up there.

There are those no doubt but once a week or so these kids are exposed to just the sparkly side of the city.

The reality is different but for many it does not interfere with the dream

doesnt anyone rememeber that we retained Carney? he left because we sacked him...he wasnt poached.

Its a bit of a myth that all our good juniours leave. Zillman was homesick and had 2 knee reco's while he was with us - no big loss. Weyman was extremely injury prone and had discipline issues... i think it was a mutual decision for him to leave.

Go back a few years Michael Monaghan leaving was Matt Elliots fault for selecting brad drew ahead of him. Joel was poached but he came back.

We can retain our local talent, we just cant attract talented players from other clubs.

Money won't be an issue. Raiders will come up with a competitive offer in off season. It will come down to wether he gets recognised for rep jumpers and if he can play in a team that wins a premiership. Tick one for his selection in country team, Blues will be next few years. Losing him would be akin to Fittler leaving Penrith for bondi junction in one of the greatest poaches in history!

I know you guys are all just sticking the slipper in, but in all honesty, this would probably be enough to make me lose a bit of interest in the NRL. I'll always love rugby league, but it'd be the straw that broke the camels back I think - what's the point of cheering on a team if the players you love just get poached every single time. I'd rather watch park footy if that were to be the case.

Some are sticking the boots in Paullyboy, but not me and I understand your sentiments about losing interest in rugby league.
People are so dumb if they don't realise the NRL really needs to address salary cap issues urgently instead of sticking their head in the sand.

I just want to see Dugan leave especially to the Roosters to watch the Raiders fans explode.

Could be some comedy gold.

I feel a similar way, which is why I'll stop posting on here if he walks out on us next year. I'll still love the game and my club (and will always support them)...I just won't be on here talking about it cos i'll feel so disillusioned by the state of the NRL.

If Dugan leaves I couldn't blame Raiders fans for growing bitter towards the NRL. Josh has the serious potential to be such a Canberra icon and to lose him in such a way would be such a blow.

If the NRL was smart, they'd try and keep all those Raiders juniors together and market them accordingly to the ACT. It's only going to take a matter of years before they're a top 4 side. All they need is a proper halfback and possibly a coach and they'll be set.

I do not understand where you blokes are coming from .Canberra has the same $4.1 million to buy , pay or retain or throw at any player it wishes, including dugan . So its a fair game , what is everyone whinging about ? Why would you be bitter towards the NRL ? just an unbelievingly stupid argument . If anything the raiders would be in the box seat for negotiations because A they can offer more to Dugan as the raiders roster isnt full of big names and B if Canberra is obviously such a far superior place to live than Sydney as stated why would he leave .

Agree, if Dugan leaves then it's the raiders management/coach's fault. He should be our number 1 priority. If the roosters get him then kudos to them (however i would urge the NRL to go over their books with a fine tooth comb)

Newcastle had the same $4.1 million to pay, retain and throw at Johns, yet the NRL helped them.

The Dragons had the same $4.1 million to pay, retain and throw at Gasnier, yet the NRL helped them.

Why is it any different if we ask for help???

(Cap figures may not have been the same back then, but you get the drift)

different circumstance .Both Johns and Gasnier money was to fend off a rival code not a rival club
ie union . Plus both were also established superstars at the top of the game not promising juniors. I reckon the roosters would have some room under their cap , they would have Fitzgibbon,Omeley and Mason money in the kick . Plus they got Carney, daniel conn and pierce cheap . I reckon they have some room for some players . The eels on the other hand i cant make their cap work no matter how hard i try.....
