Dugan rejects 3 year extension from Raiders

i agree in concessions for local juniors/players clubs have developed but the way Storm fans are latching onto that as the issue with the scandal is bullsh*t.

That's not true Kiki. As Noa said, we have been saying it from day dot.

You would understand it a bit more if you lived in Melb. and saw why the afl has been such a successful code.

The NRL urgently needs to review the salary cap issues. We are losing players to afl/union in Aust. and to clubs overseas and fans (not only Storm fans) feel really peeved at losing their favourite players.

Easing 3rd party agreements would solve a lot of problems.

Lets see how the AFL handle the free market scheme now (im lead to believe its like ours). Combined with their draft, it will be interesting to see how it affects their tribalism.

All this happened when Toddles Carney's contract was about to expire and we re-signed him. Still that was three weeks of sh*t and rumours until he did sign. I think Raider supporters even bothered him on facebook over it.

Guys, lets not bother Dugan on facebook this time around.

Lets hope the events of the last couple of weeks might put a end to the brown paper bag trade and give the Green machine a fair chance of retaining Dugan. It would even be better if the NRL fast tracked a system that rewarded clubs that actually invested in their junior system and were rewarded for the talent they produce. Although thats not going to happen while the likes of the chooks have so much influence at HQ

Good to see a lot of classy league fans wanting him to stay in Canberra, especially the broncos fans.

I don't think we will let him slip away, the raiders will pay whatever is needed to keep him.

Exactly...

Although it wont stop some from declaring that he has no loyalty.... apparently the definition of 'loyalty" to some is letting your current club low ball you.

Precisely .
On the issue of concession for Juniors , how is that fairer than the system we have now ? Only a few clubs with large geographic areas will maybe benefit from it . It will only put the inner city clubs at a disadvantage as they dont have the demographics anymore . Can someone explain how that system is fairer than a set salary cap across the board ? It isnt . The whole junior retention issue is ridiculous and bad for development of players and the game itself .

I dont see how it puts the roosters at a disadvantage when they've got one of, if not the best judge of junior talent in the country in charge of their recruitment???:lol:

f**king poachers, get your own juniors, first Soward, then Carney, and now trying to get dugan

Hopefully Shillington being picked in the Test team (deservedly, from what I have seen) encourages Dugan to stay, knowing that he his representative future won't he hindered for being at the Raiders

He's contracted until then end of 2011. Thats 18 months away, who knows how good this kid could be by then, hell he's good enough to be Australian fullback by then!
Slater will still be #1 in 2011

He can stay in obscurity or join a club like the Roosters/Dogs/Eels/Bronco's and also develope a booming media career
Gee I dunno. Have you heard the guy talk

Josh Bogan will never leave Tuggeranong
Exactly

Renewed claims Roosters are interested in Raider Josh Dugan

By Brent Read
May 03, 2010

Canberra's upset win over the Warriors in Auckland was overshadowed by renewed claims boom fullback Josh Dugan has agreed to join Sydney Roosters in 2012.

The claim was made on Sydney radio yesterday, prompting the club's chief executive Steve Noyce to issue an outright denial -- one of several his club has made in recent weeks.

The Raiders have had suspicions Dugan, who was yesterday named as the Country fullback, is being wooed by the Roosters and yesterday's claims will only increase the enmity between the clubs.

Dugan is off contract at the end of next season and has declined a lucrative extension with the club which would have earned him more than $400,000 in return for a further one-year commitment. Dugan told the club and his management he wanted to back himself.

"It's definitely not true," Noyce said. "There's not much to say. rugby league is full of rumours. We'll just get on with it and worry about our club."

Canberra chief executive Don Furner, who has already approached the NRL over rumours the Roosters are privately pursuing Dugan, said the latest speculation only heightened his belief clubs should be given greater allowances for local juniors.

He also said he would again speak to the NRL about the situation. "We'll be working with the NRL and making sure they know about it," Furner said.

"There have been a lot of rumours about this for a long time. Maybe it's another reason why we need to look at (salary cap) dispensation for juniors -- then we get to keep our own rather than develop juniors for everyone else."

Dugan was again outstanding in the Raiders' gutsy 23-16 win over the Warriors at Mt Smart Stadium on Saturday night. Despite being in only his second year of first grade, Dugan, 19, has been earmarked as a potential NSW fullback.

Understandably, Raiders officials are desperate to tie him to a long-term deal. After initially offering him a three-year extension, they reduced it to one season on the advice of Dugan's management.

That deal would have made him one of the highest-paid players at the club in 2012.

Usually where there is smoke, there is fire when it comes to the Roosters, they don't miss their man very often

I doubt dugan will leave but if he was to go raiders seem to have an abundance of skillful juniors but it's a shame they struggle to keep them though

I know you guys are all just sticking the slipper in, but in all honesty, this would probably be enough to make me lose a bit of interest in the NRL. I'll always love rugby league, but it'd be the straw that broke the camels back I think - what's the point of cheering on a team if the players you love just get poached every single time. I'd rather watch park footy if that were to be the case.
