Goulburn, Junee etc are all territories the Raiders spend the money at grass roots level. It is their territory regardless of a few hundred kilometres

I'm not quite sure exactly what those two points have to do with the current discussion. Goulburn is a Canberra juniors area. Their junior and senior clubs play in the Canberrra competition - how can that be any more clear? 100km in rural speak is SFA distance.

As for your point as to Coogee being a Sth Sydney junior area, I'm not sure what point you are trying to make. I don't know the reason for that, you may know, perhaps you neglected the area so it was removed from you. Regardless, what does it have to do with Todd and the Raiders? Are you suggesting he is a Sth Sydney junior now he is living in the eastern subrubs?

Coogee is in the Eastern Suburbs as is Randwick and Moore Park which means Braith Anasta, Craig Wing and countless others are actually Easts juniors and yet they are classified as Souths juniors, go figure and yet a town 100 or more kms away from Canberra is classified as a Canberra stronghold. In other words classified junior areas are a joke. If the system is ever going to be fair then all of the junior areas have to be redrawn otherwise it's totally unfair.

I thought that the Roosters had stated publicly they are happy not having to put money into a junior league as it allows them to spend their resources on Matts & Ball recruitment

Easts alloted area is tiny, why should they pour money into it? Maybe if they were given Coogee, Randwick and Moore Park then it would be more worth their while. Until then they are left with no other choice but to get their players from other areas which is completely legal.

If the Roosters want to pump money into a rural area and stake claim to it as theirs thn good luck to them. To me it seems they prefer to save money others put into developing the game, to purchase other clubs prized juniors when they start to show promise.

Just out of curiosity (not being a smart arse), how did Coogee end up in the hands of Souths. Was it a coup by Souths, did the Roosters give it away, what exactly happened and when?

And the reason why all this Raider whingeing is like water off a ducks back.

SG Ball who was the president at the time and who btw was a Souths tragic redrew the boundaries in the 50's. He took those areas away from Easts and gave them to Souths.

You had your chance with the zoning of these areas for your juniors, you neglected them so live with the fact they are souths junior areas...

Your living in denial if you think your club gives a brass razoo about junior development at grass roots.. Why spend money when Penrith do it for you...[/FONT]

Not even a one year extension for 400k?

Nope, although i think a one year extention is the right length given it will take him contracted until the new FTA agreement and thus new salary cap (which is certain to increase) kicks in, but its unsure weather the deal was 400k over the 3 years, or if it was 400k per year for the next 3 years

if it was the later, i'd be shocked he'd turn it down given its so much extra cash for only 12 months longer committment, but if its the former, he knows if he holds out he'll almost certainly get the 2nd deal

Can't beleive some of the dribble written by canberra fans in this thread. Apparently it took us 3 - 5 years to get over the loss of Carney??? If I remember correctly after Carney got sacked a player by the name of Terry Campese stood up and nearly won the dally m player of the year and we went on to finish 6th and play some of the best attacking football this club has seen in over 10 years - all without toddy boy.

Dugan would be a big loss but its not the end of the world. We have some decent players who could fill in.

lol - you can talk. South seniors dont contribute 1c to junior football. Souths juniors (a totally seperate entity) do all the work.

Another naive comment. The Roosters have developed heaps of players who have gone on to represent but have also gone to other clubs because they can. THE ROOSTERS DON'T OWN THEM. Crocker, the Miniciello brothers, Cross, Flannery, Kenny-Dowell, Jones, FPN, Tom Symonds, Jake Friend, Lopini Paea, Perret, The Aubusson brothers, watts, Rovelli, Kirk, Winterstein, Lam, Logan, Shillington, Cherrington, Fletcher, Ricketson etc, etc, etc. I could go on and on.

I must admit that I was highly impressed by your list of juniors that your club has developed. So much so that I went and tried to find some information about each of the players listed. I couldn't find a great deal of info on each of them but I'll list what I could find. I'd be grateful if you could confirm the details seeing as they are your boys.

Crocker - Redcliffe Dolphins Junior, debuted with Roosters at 21 y/o.
Miniciello brothers - Tick - well done
Cross - who?
Flannery - born in Cowra, however a QLD rep. Debuted with Roosters at 20 y/o.
Kenny-Dowell - Born in Brisbane, Jnr Kiwi rep. the year prior to signing with the Roosters. Debuted with Roosters at 19 y/o.
Jones - do you mean Ben jones - do you really want to take credit for developing him?
FPN - Signed with the Roosters in 2007, Warriors junior five years prior (14 - 19)
Symonds - Don't know much about him and couldn't find much but he looks like a great player, I hope he goes well when he returns from injury.
Friend - Tick - well done
Paea - Signed as a 19 y/o?
Perrett - Aust schoolboys player in QLD, Gold Coast Junior signed at 19 y/o.
James Aubbuson - Storm Junior
Mitchell Aubbuson - Aust schoolboy (Maybe a local?)
Watts - who - is it Anthony?
Rovelli - again do you really want to take credit for developing him?
Kirk - who?
Winterstein - Kiwi jnr - Roosters U20 - Tick
Lam - Debuted with the Roosters at 24 y/o.
Logan - Brisbane Easts jnr - debuted with Roosters at 20 y/o.
Cherrington - Kiwi Jnr - signed with Roosters at 20 y/o.
Fletcher - Wasn't he a Souths junior, which was the reason he went back there???
Ricketson - a big tick for a great player.

As mentioned before I'm not sure how accurate the info is so if you could fill in the details for each player it would be fantastic...

Edit:

Sorry I forgot the pillow - Signed to Roosters from Brisbane as a 22 y/o?

No one said they were juniors, the words used were developed which is a fact. The roosters have an extremely small area of juniors to operate within which means they have to recruit players when they are young and develop them.

Also James Aubusson is most certainly not a storm junior, he played their for a season i believe but before that he was at the roosters as well

The Cross he was referring to was Ryan Cross, a Roosters junior. Tom Symonds is a Roosters junior (Bondi United) and Anthony CHerrington is also a Roosters junior (Paddington Tigers).

As for Fletcher being a Souths Jnr, that was just Bunnies propaganda. Fletch is a Roosters Jnr through an through.

But how has this ended up on this boring, lame old topic?

Every other club in the NRL could name a list twice as long of 'developed' players and juniors. I could name a list of Parra players off the top of my head twice as long who are still playing in the NRL. It's not the Roosters fault though, they have a very small catchment area which is well known. Yet it's still stupid for Cogburn Jr to accuse others of being naive in this case, when he's done the same thing.

Usually happens when you get clueless rimjobs like Gerg, Paullyboy and the like adding their ill informed 2c.

Fletch is Easts through and through. the only reason he went to souffs was for the huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge pay packet they were offering him.

Dugan denies speculation that he's poised to join the Roosters

CANBERRA and Country fullback Josh Dugan has rubbished rumours linking him with rival NRL club the Sydney Roosters.
The 20-year-old rising star has echoed Roosters CEO Steve Noyce in denying he is Sydney-bound after the rumour mill was fuelled by Dugan knocking back a one-year contract extension with the Raiders.
Canberra boss Don Furner has gone to the length of showing the club's offer to salary cap auditor Ian Schubert in a bid to ensure any rivals for Dugan's signature play by the rules. Dugan is contracted until the end of 2011.
''I've been signed with Canberra since I was 16 and I haven't had the chance to talk to anyone or even have the slightest idea of what's going on,'' Dugan said yesterday.
''I don't really look into much of that because I know it's not true, my manager [Daryl Mather] knows it's not true, but there's people out there that believe it.
''I know what's happening and it's really my life and my career that I'm looking after and none of it's true. I've still got until next year, I'm not even allowed to talk to any clubs so I don't know where this has come from.''
Dugan knocked back Canberra's latest offer, which reportedly would have raised his earnings by $400,000, but said that did not mean he was leaving.
''In the end it's me looking after myself and I wasn't really happy with the deal,'' he said.
''But my manager and the club are working on that so we'll sort something out soon.''
In good news for a beleaguered NRL, Dugan pledged his future to the league.
''I've grown up watching rugby league since I was two years old,'' he said. ''I love the game and I don't think I could ever see myself playing union or AFL.''
