Yes, I think those qualities are superficial. I don't see any real difference on the new controller that will improve my gaming experience so vastly that I need to spend another $600. I've never had a PS3 and no, I didn't like their controllers either. But I said how the controller looks is superficial, just like how the console looks is quite superficial.

And well I guess you wouldn't. Here's me, someone who has never had a PS3 yet would like to play some of the really good exclusives. The PS4 looks much better than the XBO so if I get a PS4 I can play these old games on it right? No. To play the Last of Us I have to buy a PS3. The good thing is the rumour I've heard about PS3 games coming to the PS4 through streaming.

In depth experiences? What am I looking at exactly? Elder Scrolls? Morrowind was just as in depth. Ocarina of Time as mentioned is many people's pick for the best game ever.
Clearly, each generation has improved over the last one. But this one just seems to be offering the same games with shiny new graphics. I haven't seen anything to suggest the gaming experience will be that much better to be worth buying a new console other than all the focus on online bullshit and crap you can do with your voice/phone/hands/ipad etc.

If you're looking at halo games for proof of in depth experiences, then you are looking in the wrong places.

Do you think the level of detail and storyline of say mass effect was possible on the first xbox?

As for controllers being superficial, I couldn't disagree more, it's a big part of how you feel connected with a game, and a large reason why I never really played my PS3 as I found the controller way too loose and ergonomically poor. The new one looks like it's made some great steps forward and the new xbox one with variable trigger resistance and improved vibration feedback looks incredible.

As for backwards compatibility, I don't get why people really care about that stuff, the good games will eventually come out as an upscaled remake, or you can plug in your old console if you really want to. Given the massive differences in architecture from their predecessors, I'd rather they focus on building the best console they can instead of adding additional cost in providing backwards compatibility. This is a new demand, the super nintendo wasn't compatible with the NES, so I don't know why people expect it now.

The playstation especially would have virtually no chance of doing it moving from a cell processor to an x86 APU. They're virtually polar opposites of CPU architecture.

The PS4 will use Gaikai to stream last-gen games, perhaps more. So actually, they will have some form of backwards compatibility - which is more than can be said for the One, which as yet looks to be the vastly inferior platform so far. What many fail to realize is that Sony have yet to announce a new Uncharted, God of War, Quantic Dream game, next-gen Gran Turismo, etc. All of their *big* guns are still up their sleeve, while Microsoft has already revealed theirs. That the PS4 has both stronger hardware (the RAM difference alone will be huge) and the lack of restrictions is a great boon.

Backwards compatibility is a feature I wanted since my original PS3 died. I never thoroughly played the alternative endings and directions of Heavy Rain or even finished Oblivion and I really want to play Uncharted 3.

I understand most systems have never had it featured but the PS2 did and the 360 does. It can be done but it is a minor annoyance relating to my situation that is the exception not the norm. It should be featured but it just delays my purchase a year to let new releases filter out.

Do we know when Gaikai will actually launch? If it is available with the launch of the PS4 and works as has been detailed then that will be pretty awesome.

They've said it's not up until next year and will only be select game. I'll assume all exclusives will be available immediately it'd be stupid if they weren't.

I guess at least I won't feel too bad for holding off on The Last of Us then, I'd rather start saving for the PS4.

Well I'll definitely hold off buying anything until then. I still have a fair amount of 360 games I want to get so that will hold me until then.

I always thought backwards compatibility should be a major feature. I mean not everyone can afford every single console. Some people sell their old consoles to get the new one, meaning all of their old games are useless. One annoying thing I encountered recently is I bought X-Men Legends for the original xbox a few weeks ago. Got home to play it and turns out they never made it available to play on the 360. My old xbox is stuffed so that means the only way I can play the damn game is to buy a 10-year old console for one game.

That's the other reason I might get the Wii U. Wii games work on it and old Nintendo games are available to download.

I really enjoyed playing old xbox games on the 360, old gameboy games on the GBA, old PC games. old Gamecube games on the Wii etc.

I understand most systems have never had it featured but the PS2 did and the 360 does

And those two are among the best consoles released. And both of their successors irritated their respective fanbases.

Will be pre-ordering a PS4 this weekend at EB with the added bonus being they let you pay it off over time so hopefully I can most of it paid off by launch date. Paying the full price with JB Hi Fi for something I won't even see for months is going a bit far.

From E3 for the next gen consoles

1. Watchdogs
2. The Division
3. Destiny
4. Battlefield 4 (looked f**king epic)
5. Killzone: Shadowfall (been suckered into the series although I felt the 3rd was average)

Backwards compatibility doesn't really worry me as I have never sold any of my old consoles but I'm looking forward to how Sony plans to integrate the Gaikai technology and stream old games, some further info on that would be great as there are still a couple of games for the current generation of consoles that I'm really looking forward to playing like The Last of Us, GTA V and the South Park game due out soonish. If it's the exlcusive games first I could hold off on The Last of Us but I don't like my chances given it's an epic looking game and I've been hyped for it since E3 last year.

I've found an article saying that they intend to stream PS1, PS2 and PS3 games but there isn't really to much info on it and I assume it will take time to get them all out there via the technology?

For the record Ocarina of Time is the greatest game ever made

Also weighing in to the controller discussion, I've never had a problem with the playstation controller but I can see how it would be a personal choice

And yet the PS3 is still out-selling/about to out-sell the 360 worldwide despite releasing a year later. IGN have confirmed in a new article that the PS4 is out-pacing the One on pre-orders.....in the USA, the 360 heart-land. That is possibly the worst thing that could have happened.

As I said, games will be remastered and available for download... Or in the PS4 case, through gaikai... It doesn't really matter, most nostalgic games will be available at some point.

As for the difference between the platforms, PS4 has the edge in raw power, but it also had it last gen. At the end of the day, exclusives are what make a console, and that edge in power makes little difference in that regard.

I think the xbone actually has the edge in terms of launch titles, but I certainly won't be rushing out to get it. Forza 5 is the only one that may make me jump, it's much better than Gran Turismo IMO.

At the end of the day, the DRM and price points are the differentiators, hardware really is irrelevant. They are close enough in capability, the gap may make the nerds worry about it, but the real world impact is negligible. Platform wise, they're equally capable offerings, but policy is what will kill microsoft if they can't stem the negative press.

If the PS4 controller feels a lot better than the last one, I will get it on launch day. If it doesn't, I'll wait it out and see what the fall out is on xbox one and likely get that a few months after launch.

Neither console has overly impressed me as being better than the other. Having a 360 at the moment, and frankly loving the shizzle out of it, I think I'll be sticking with Xbox One. THat said, I won't be buying on day 1, because I still have a load of games I want to complete on 360 first.

Game wise, the list I'll be going after:-

Forza 5
Battlefield 4
Witcher 3
Watch Dogs
Ryse
Batman Origins
Assassins Creed 4
COD Ghost
NBA 2k14 - NBA Live has some neat features, but 2k has always stood out on sports games
DRagon Age Inquisition
Fifa 14

I was probably umming and ahhing about whether I'd move to the new gen as frankly I like Xbox 360 enough that I think there's plenty of playability left in my current game list. But seeing the various tubes on the above games has sold the deal. So the discussion about what the consoles do or don't do, or the online issue etc, don't really amount to much to me because the games have sold the console.

As someone who owns all the systems, I'm not touching Xbox One with a ten foot pole. I can't support such anti-consumer practices, and if gamers let Microsoft get away with this one, it will just be the tip of the iceberg. PS4 has basically all the same games I want, cheaper and on better hardware. MS have done a poor job selling me the Xbox One, and seems that way for most gamers

I want Titan Fall but I'm happy waiting a year for the time exclusivity to end

I will get a Ps4 straight up, and possibly a xbox one down the track when they relax most of their used game policies cause generally that's how I buy most of my games.
