It’s all well and good we’ve done ok over the past few years. I’d really like us to win a comp before I die. I’m 44 and I’m not even sure that’ll happen. Ask yourself do you honestly think we’ll be winning one under Ba?
See my post in the BA coaching thread……

That we can posit what he thinks based on the very limited minutes he provides Jakob in garbage time.

there is no strategic benefit to his use, hence we can theorise that he doesn't think he is ready for first grade.

Despite your childish attempts to diminish and deride my point, we can all only theorise based on the information available.

It is my submission that BA's use of his on betrays his belief that his son isn't ready for first grade.

I accept you disagree, but at least put forward some evidence or information that supports an opposing view, rather than just mock and deride.
Yeah nah, I didn't even address your point. You're arguing with yourself ya pelican.

If his defence is poor on the edges, then why was he such an effective back up centre?
I don't think he was, because of his defence. His attack was just fine as you'd expect from a big fast merkin with room to move.
Because of his sparkling attack? I seem to recall you yourself defending his selection in the centres as one of defensive necessity....
No, it's a selection that had me scratching my head. I just assumed there was nobody better available.
The fact is he is quite a good edge defender....
I disagree.
and you yourself have frequently attributed our edge defence issues to Papali'i's issues with edge defence.
I'd say there is probably a merkinhair between them, from a defensive perspective.
But feel free to retract that position as and when it suits your argument du jour....
If I change my position it's in response to new information. There are plenty of merkins here that I agree with, so I'm not looking to disagree for the sake of it.

I'm not talking about the players, I'm talking about the merkins booing. Just because the players should expect it doesn't mean the slobs booing in the stands aren't weak merkins, and I say this as a weak merkin who always boos at games.

Well I reckon you reckon the crowd is booing the players, but merkin they are actually booing you!

I think he sees him as a backup that might be needed in case of a mid-game injury, plus he is a promising youngster who can benefit from NRL exposure when the result of a game isn't on the line.

Even on that logic I can't agree with the selection.

I feel that Hands or Rein would still be a better option to cover for an injury as they can both fill in where necessary, and they would be far more useful in the more frequent circumstances (thankfully and touch wood) where there is no injury to the 6 or 7.

I don't think so. Arthur has been much better than Hands, and Rein can only play hooker. I agree Rein would be better if we wanted to rest Mahoney but apparently he doesn't need a rest.

I wouldn't, but surely the club has more important things to worry about than poor Jakey getting boo'd???? If he's picked again he will probably cop it twice as much now. We all know why he is getting boo'd and the cause i'm not condoning it but people are fed up. The whole team deserved to be boo'd Thursday night. Especially the coach.

No problem giving the team the razoo on the way off the field, that's motivation. But the mindset of cretins who boo a player in the team list announcement (and it's not a pantomime boo) is beyond me.

He's got the best win rate of any Eels coach since Brian Smith.

I agree and feel sorry for Jake, this is none of his making because he's not going to say no i don't want to play. But surely there are more important things for the club to be worrying about than some booers???

Well it's all relative. Look at Sticky's win rate at the four clubs he has coached:

Roosters 60%
Raiders 50.7%
Sharks 41.8%
Eels 20.8% (though in a very small sample)

These win rates reflect the relative strength of each club, at least while he was there. Clubs do get weaker and stronger over time, as their ability to generate income improves/degrades, or they increase/decrease their willingness to spend (including borrowing money). But looking at the results above, was Stuart a great coach at the Roosters, an average coach at the Raiders and a poor/terrible coach at Cronulla and Parramatta? It would be stupid to think so.
