Points deduction wont stop Eels title push, say Kieran Foran

KIERAN Foran refuses to concede Parramattas title hopes are dead this year even if the Eels are docked eight competition points for the salary cap debacle.
And the inspirational Eels captain remains adamant that leaving Manly to join the strife-torn club was the best thing I have done in my career so far.
Speculation is rife that Parramatta face a certain competition points deduction in the coming weeks, if not days, with the NRLs investigation into alleged dodgy third-party payments finally
complete.
Parramatta fans and players are now clinging to the hope that the sanctions wont rule them out of at least competing for a top eight spot this year.
While no one really knows exactly what the final punishment will be, even an eight point deduction would still leave the Eels on two competition points going into Saturdays clash against the Cowboys in Townsville.
To put that in perspective, it would mean Parramatta (currently on 10 competition points) would then need to win at least 11, possibly 12, of their remaining 17 games to scrape into the top eight this year.
Given the Eels also have four points guaranteed for two byes, 11 wins would get them to 28 points and 12 wins to 30 points.
Past history indicates it takes at least 28 points to make the playoffs.
Club legend Peter Sterling has already said he believes an eight point penalty would still be too big a hurdle for the Eels to overcome.
But Foran thinks otherwise.
Asked on Wednesday if losing points would take away the teams drive, Foran said: I dont believe so. We certainly havent let it affect us and I dont believe it will affect us if it does happen. Or when it does happen.
They are talking about eight points. I mean, if we lost eight points, well, we would still believe as a club and as a side that we could challenge for the title.
It is what it is, the belief in the side and what Brad (coach Arthur) instils in this team.
We have never once thought that we dont deserve to be playing finals footy and we will be doing everything we can to make sure we are there.
It would be disappointing if that does happen. I know it would be.
As a club and as a team we have worked really hard in the pre-season to prepare ourselves as best we could for this year. We have started the season well and everything is tracking along good.
It would be a setback and it would be disappointing but until something does happen we will just go about business as usual. And when or if it does happen we will just deal with it then and we will talk about how we want to deal with it.
But regardless of what the final punishment ends up being, Foran said he had no regrets leaving Manly to join Arthur at Parramatta.
Asked directly if he had his time over, would he still make the same decision, Foran said without hesitation: Oh for sure. I wouldnt think twice about it.
It has been the best thing I have done in my career so far. Well, I should word that differently. It needed to happen for me.
I loved my time at Manly and Manly was the right place for me coming through as a junior.
I was fortunate to play at such a strong club and play with so many great players and that was the best thing for the growth of my game.
But I got to the stage last year where I knew that I needed a change. I knew that I needed a freshen up. I just couldnt have picked a better joint to come to.
I have really enjoyed every moment since I have been here.
It really is great.
