Eels seeking permission to cheat salary cap...

Its like Ricky never left Cronulla. He has to be the worst recruiter in the history of the game. Anyone with a name, THROW MONEY. Do whatever you can, and screw the future for today.

Say whatever you like about Folau, he has been gone two years, was hardly mark gasnier in the first place. Imho, a one trick jump and catch pony. 400k+ a season...I wouldnt be paying that.

Asking to front load a cap limit is not only stupid, and would never be allowed. Its a great insight into Stuart and just how panicked he is.

Can't let them get away with it and I can't imagine why they would agree to do it - being 400k down on a salary cap in 2014 seems like such a bad idea.

If they want him - move some guys on.

Where do these guys go? Parra can punt who they want. If no club wants them. They go on the Eels cap any way.

Surely it is time to do away with the farce that is the salary cap and let the League assign point values to each player. It is clear from the Folau case that they are placing values on players as it is. Let the clubs pay what they want.

Seems like it. Folau is skinny. Hasn't played for 2 years and they think he's worth $400k :lol::lol:.

I just don't understand how they can justify Folau's "Market Value" at 400k. He has been out of the game for 2 years and will take atleast a year to get back into it. How can schubert just value players? If folau wants to take 150k in his first year then so be it. If the NRL just agreed then there would be no salary cap cheating BS.

Yeah exactly. I don't see the issue with players being willing to play for less than they are worth. It's called loyalty to a club and it should be respected, rather than having rules stopping it.

I was under the impression that Lockyer was playing for 300K or something around that figure at the end of his career. How was this allowed given this rule?

Yes Izzy must be very "loyal" to the Eels, having spent some weeks involved with them.

This goes against the entire idea of the cap.... If you want a player, and he wants more than you can give under the cap, you either drop players to make him fit or you lose him... On the same note can the Raiders get a $5m exception for this year, we will just buy the entire league, win, and next year we won't field a team....

If by some geniusED measure this is actually approved it will lead to people offering a player a one year contract of 1 mil because they have injuries/etc, getting their "extra 1m this year 1m less next year" (remember the cap could go up as well meaning their loss next year would be even less of an issue) approved then just pushing through for the next year with the premiership cup safely stored in their club house for a year... I think most clubs would give up one year for a 200% better shot...

And as for people saying "they still count on the Eels cap unless they go elsewhere"... yes... they do... And that's not every other clubs issue/fault either....

The real issue here is how f**king Schubert thinks he can value a player. So many different things go into a player's value, and just because he left the game as a star doesn't mean he's still worth 400k after spending two years turning himself into a stick insect. He could quite conceivably be only reserve grade standard when he returns.

It's like, for instance, if a star player is seriously injured (or a string of injuries) and is out of the game for two years. Is Schubert going to say he still has to be paid 600k a year because that's what he was worth before he had triple knee reconstructions or had a shoulder rebuilt a couple of times?

It's an absolute farce. If Izzy wants to play for 150k, provided there's nothing going on under the table, he can go for it.

That is their problem if they are trying to offload crap to get a superstar. Stop trying to get rid of Tonga for Izzy and look to move players clubs would be interested in to create the space.

This is the Eels(and typical stuart) trying to pull a shifty then crying about it when it doesn't look like anyone will take it.

Points values are terrible, and are causing early retirements in the NBL. I'd rather this system than a points system.

Let the clubs pay what they want.

Agreed, as long as it fits under the salary cap. If the player wants to play for $150k he should be able to.

Even though it would help the Eels I hope this doesn't go through otherwise everyone will want to do it.

Because, it would be hopelessly NAIVE of the NRL to think he is playing for only 150K without some investigation.

Im sure club's less scrupulous than Parramatta, who obviously only have good intentions here, would exploit the situation.

Id like the Storm to re-negotiate Cam Smith, Billy Slater and Cronk's deals to be $50K next time and see the feedback.

Simple solution. Group certificates must be shown to the NRL, by every player, to show what they're earning. Can't hide that. (unless its cash in hand)

Don't think it would even go close to solving it honestly.

Whats to stop a player investing his "legitimate" wage in a business that returns an investment?

What's to stop a club setting up a circumstance that mimics the above.

What an amateur organization the ARLC is. They have shown themselves up once again in their short and not so illustrious history.

Here is an elite world quality athlete who wants to join your competition which will in turn attract thousands more fans to tune into the sport to see him fail or succeed and the pathetic head of the sport is getting all technical and saying NO, you need to dot all the "I"s and tick all the "T's to get it done, when the cap is more or less a sham anyway.

But what is even worse in regards to this is, and again shows them up for their pathetic uselessness is, they should have made a rule that allows all teams a salary cap exemption of one non RL player for the term of his first contract or for a max of 3 years.

That way the NRL can scout for the best elite players from anywhere in the world without worrying about the risk of failure of success by the player or the extra burden on the cap.

Also it would put the rest of the codes on notice in Australia at least that we are not to be trifled with any longer.

But no, these amateurs look like bodgie boofheads and risk losing an elite sportsman to another comp or sport. I ask you, which other sport in this market would be that freakin stupid?

Oh FFS we're not risking losing him. There are teams with the capspace. St George has room. The Warriors have room. Dogs always have room. Many teams have room. Parra will end up finding a way to get him, for his WHOLE salary, but if they don't there are other options that don't result in him playing in another country or code.

You have missed the main point of the post BM. As per usual for you I suppose.
