Eels under pressure to turn around recruitment policies

A contract's still a contract, and clubs can't sign a player contracted to another club unless that club releases him.

But at the same time, if a player wants out he won't be playing his best and the club is better off selling him while his form's good and they can still get a big transfer fee for him.

Also, plenty of contracts have a minimum fee release clause. In Spain it's a legal requirement in every player contract.

I've looked. There's no halves in Spain worth chasing, anyway.

Do you reckon SK will be coaching NZ this time around with the eels struggling?
I'm guessing all his attention will be on the eels.

Apparently they've turned a deficit into a profit. You can argue all you want about how they've done it, but it needed to be done.

And if you're a real Parra fan you'll be hoping they have more success in the future, and if they've made mistakes you'll be hoping they've learnt from them and become better administrators.

Because the last thing we want is for the club's members to fall into the habit of replacing the board every election.

And it's important we don't become a bunch of whiny drama queens either.

They had to turn it around so they could renovate the club.

I had to go to Wenty leagues yesterday before kick off to have a nice meal and then head out to Parra Stadium

Even the Steelers Club down at the Gong is a better place then our leagues club and that's gotta be the worst club i have been to.

Wouldn't that make it the 2nd worst?

You know what I mean.

I haven't been down there yet as the Saints dont play their first game there till mid way during the season.

They have built the new grandstand so I hope they have renovated the club.

oh! frig yeah! the EPL seems to be rife with that sort of thing...I really don't understand it..

cesc febregas is in his 2nd year of a 5 year deal with arsenal and has been linked with a move to Barcelona within 6 months of his deal..I mean wtf???????

but atleast the club gets compensated by way of a huge transfer fee.
What did Parra get for raising all the juniors playing at other clubs

First pick of them. It's up to us what we do with those picks.

It's much easier to keep a good young kid than go out and buy one.

Peter Nolan will be looking strongly at returning the young juniors that have moved to other clubs , he has said he is amazed at how many of our juniors are now with other clubs and is at a loss as to why we did not retain them. Typical of what was told to Nathan Gardner & co you wont play NRL , whos laughing now.

You only get the transfer fee if you release them while still under contract. If you let their contract expire you get nothing.

This has been the case ever since the Bosman ruling.

So the juniors we've lost, we've lost at the end of their contracts. That said, FIFA has a compensation system for under-24s, so that clubs have to pay a fee for any player they sign even if he's off contract at his old club.

The only requirement for a club to receive compensation is that they have to have offered the off-contract junior an upgraded extension on their current contract.

Exactly.

No club has a right to hoard juniors just because they have a big junior nursery. It's not fair on the kids and it's not fair on the clubs with shit junior areas.

We had first choice on which ones to keep, and if we didn't keep the best ones it's our fault, nobody elses.

There isn't enough economy in the nrl to justify transfer fees, and if we did, you'd might as well get rid of the salary cap. A few clubs can afford to do it, most would suffer

True. I'm just saying that's why player contracts are seen as less binding in Europe, where transfer fees are part of their culture.

Also, there's nothing stopping clubs paying each other transfer fees for players between seasons. Obviously mid-season transfers would need to be registered by the NRL, who have their own registration rules.

Sounds like excuses.for failure next year as well. All this talk about frustration watching other.eels players killing it for other clubs is all cute but at the end of the.day its called salary cap. He might not be used to it cause the storm didnt believe in it. He is paid to bring the club results. Until he does I will not believe all the hype about him.

Now getting ready 4 the hates to blast me

gotta love the hate mate, truth hurts at times :)

*hides under a pillow*

to add to spartans post, geographically we are in a bitter sweet situation. We have the best junior nursery - yes. Can we keep all the good ones - no. Young up and coming talent, can easily get poached by anyone of 6-7 clubs within the sydney region who decide to pay overs for someone that looks the goods early on eg think back to tony williams

Even under brians smith reign, he basically said it is real hard trying to decide who to keep

Transfer fees will only hurt the NRL clubs. It will make it harder for the game to retain players. The rugby raiders wont respect any fees - this will give them a massive advantage.

In Spain there is no rule on pinching juniors overseas as the legal age for a professional contract is 18. Thats why players like cesc and pique get nicked early, and want to go home later... to the benefit of their foreign club

Culture is the right word

To answer the other blokes question about why players get sold 6 months in, it's because both players and clubs agree to long lucrative deals to protect the transfer value of the player. In cesc's example, arsenal get a shitload, and cesc gets a fat deal that's protected, and he pisses off arsenals fans a little less
