Expected crowds for the tournament

News Ltd destroyed the international game during the SL war, and it's taken many, many years for the game to get back to where it was since the '95 World Cup. Remember when the Aussies play Great Britain for the first time since the SL war in 1999 at Suncorp and it only got 12k? We've come a long way since then.

As I said, I would love to see Rothfield spew out in his column that this World Cup was a waste of time after 2 70k+ crowds at Wembley and Old Trafford respectively turn up.

Honestly he'll just say its in England and there is nothing better to do. I can't believe people worry so much about what he writes. He's a flat out dickhead with a licence for shit stirring. The minute we ignore him is the minute he goes away.

It's hard to ignore him when he is the main sports writer in the biggest newspaper in Sydney. I don't buy that paper, but it is everywhere. He has the ability to influence people's opinions which can affect the way people view rugby league. We always seem to be copping it in the media and most of the time it is completely unjustified. How is he allowed to print lies?

Time the NRL banned him from grounds and told players to not talk to him. That will soon see him gone. Time for NRL to grow some when it comes to media bagging the game off.

Weird seating plan. Cat 2 tickets back on sale, sponsor refunds probably. Only single seats available in the other bays, except 542 which is actually open for any last minute sales it would appear. Will be in the vicinity of 70k.

Must be sticking slothfields throat that everyone, including the deputy prime minister, thinks the RLWC is a raging success.

Will there be any walk ups you reckon? Wish it cracked 80!

I honestly can't understand why those other bays haven't been opened up. Enough tickets have been sold on the side facing the camera to ensure it looks packed enough on tv, why not open the other bays up?

It also means that after next week we should have an average of around the 16,400 mark which is pretty good going.

2008 RLWC only attracted 26,659 + 15,855 for semis and 50,599 for final. Will be interesting to see what the new look NRL can achieve in hyping the 2017 RLWC up to get much beter crowds.

Great crowd at Wembley and final is all but a sell out. Hats off to RFL, SL crowds have dropped dramatically this year so to turn that arounf for the RLWC has been a great effort.

Getting cities to bid for games was a great idea and one I hope to see for 2017.

Highest test crowds of all time

73,631 - Great Britain vs Australia, Wembley 1992
70,204 - Australia vs England, SCG 1932
70,174 - Australia vs Great Britain, SCG 1962
68,777 - Australia vs Great Britain, SCG 1958
68,720 - Australia vs Great Britain, SCG 1958
67,748 - Australia vs France, SCG 1955
67,577 - Australia vs Great Britain, SCG 1954
67,545 - England vs New Zealand/Australia vs Fiji, Wembley 2013
67,009 - Australia vs France, SCG 1951
66,540 - England vs Australia, Wembley 1995

Yesterday was the 8th highest test crowd attendance of all time, and the highest since the '95 World Cup Final (66,540). Next week's crowd at Old Trafford is going to give that record 73,631 crowd a shake.

The only RL ground in Australia or New Zealand that is capable of getting the 67k that Wembley got yesterday is ANZ Stadium. However, given the apathy of most Sydneysiders to attend tests (which has led the ARL to schedule test matches in other parts of Australia), it is highly unlikely ANZ Stadium will be hosting any matches in the 2017WC

This. This is something that needs to be done for the next WC.

Or if we put actual crowd figures where the n/a's are we get 18,467 avg. But as a community we appear to be too stupid to do that.
