Just noticed this message from the RLWC 13 team on facebook:

"Hi everyone. Thanks for all the replies. We understand how passionate you are about Rugby League and RLWC2013, but please allow us to address some of your comments. These images (posters in Wigan) do not reflect all of the work being done to promote the tournament, and are merely intended as an example of recent activity close to our office at MediaCityUK in Salford. We are reaching a national audience, we are telling new people about RLWC2013 and we are attracting new supporters to matches - and the ticket sales stats we have back that up. We've sold more tickets for The Big Hit double header of semi-finals at Wembley on November 23 to people in London and the South East than any other region, and a record number of people currently not on the RFL's ticketing database are buying tickets to matches. We've been on the London Underground, we took over Trafalgar Square, we've been to Downing Street and we've been endorsed by London Mayor Boris Johnson. Our PR work has brought as a regular presence in the London Evening Standard, the Daily Mail and other national newspapers. We've been on the Chris Evans Show and we're regularly on Talk Sport. We're in talks with The One Show, we'll be on Blue Peter ahead of the tournament, and many other national TV shows. There is physical advertising in every host city, including Bristol, London, Manchester and Limerick, and we're currently filming a TV advert. And even all of this is just the tip of the iceberg! We've achieved a lot within our budget. Five of the seven sections at Old Trafford for The Final on November 30 are all but sold out and ticket sales at our other games are strong. We realise we're not everywhere, but we are working hard and we are getting results. Thanks, RLWC2013"

Mick Gledhill (works in media for Bradford Bulls and all round Rugby League connoisseur) on twitter claims over 15,000 sold for England vs Ireland at Huddersfield and just under 11,000 sold for England vs Fiji in Hull. I think these are two solid crowds, especially the Huddersfield one, with still over 3 weeks to go until these games. He said going off ticket sales so far he expects a crowd of around 45,000 for the Opening Ceremony at Millennium Stadium.

Both Cardiff and Huddersfield crowds have already sold more than that. Can't comment on the Hull game but expect Huddersfield to sell out along with the Final, Avignon and Neath in advance of the games.

I know the Neath and Avignon games have sold well. The Avignon game should especially sell out now with the publicity of the return of SBW in south France. Do you know the exact (or abouts) ticket sales of the Opener at Millennium, Wembley semi-finals and the Huddersfield game, or any other games you know of ticket sales? Thanks

You can work out off sold out areas, RLWC twitter comments, sections open etc. that:
Millennium and Wembley have already sold approx 40k
Wembley is more likely pushing 45k now. And there is still about 25k to be opened in the top tier of Wembley.
So 40-45k sold out of 65k available is pretty good, without even knowing which teams will play.

We also need to remember how the 2008 WC was pretty much thrown together with little marketing, without social media, had pretty average tv broadcasting from Ch 9. A lot of games didn't sell out, but there was good crowds at every venue (even if below 10k) and everyone had a good time. The RL played was great and the tournament made a few Million $$.

This 2013 WC has been pretty much the opposite with planning. Marketing has been good, and is ramping up now with TV ad, and London and Cardiff advertising about to commence. Expect most of the vacant seats to be snapped up before kick off.

And last but not least, don't forget to have a good time! Enjoy the WC and don't be pessimistic. This WC is an improvement and RL is slowly getting its international presence back, and improving it beyond what it was at its peak.

Hopefully there is a spike in sales for NZ games in the next couple of days after the SBW news.

I read on rlfans that saint helens and its council are making absolutely no effort to market the game at langtree. Big crowds at the showpiece games which are live on bbc are the key, these will build the perception of the tournament as a big event and get the national press talking (i hope).

Guestimates of course but basing in the information on the ticket website etc, current sales are:

1. Cardiff - 50k (less than 4k left in lower/middle tier and upper tier sections are starting to get full, especially the South Stand)
2. Hudderfield - 20k (only the top tiers available and they are selling quickly)
3. Wembley - 50k (bottom tier gone, 2/3 middle tier gone, 2 upper tier blocks gone)
4. Old Trafford - 60k (only West Stand Upper and NW Upper left)

Also Rochdale game has sold 6k+, both Workington games 5k+ from what I gather.

Sounds good, I like positivity about league, far to much negativity at times.

Martyn Sadler, editor of League Express, posted that over 50,000 tickets have been sold for the semi-final at Wembley. That is pretty impressive with 7 weeks still to go to the game.

Be great to see a sellout for the semis and final.

Can't wait for the tournament to begin.

73,000 is the world record crowd for a RL international - that could well be toppled in the SF. The record crowd for a world cup in either code is 82,957 (2003 RUWC Final). Wouldn't that put the cat amongst the pigeons.

Has Avignon sold out yet? You would have to say with all the hype now we could have got 20,000+ to that game.
