Farah calls on PM to crack down on Twitter abuse

There are options on twitter to avoid it though , Robbie chooses not to protect his account. I would like to see Robbie go work in the prisons or be a cop when you put up with it every day. The cops are probably laughing at him thinking what a pussy

A friend of mine's boyfriend called the police the other week because someone who thought he'd been ripped off by some work he did for him was writing about it on their own facebook page. My friend's boyfriend was showing him the page to the cops and asking what they were going to do about the 'slander'. The cops must have been laughing so hard, I surely was.

Depends on your definition of harassment. I'd certainly say what Farah experienced was extreme harassment.

Maybe you should look up the word then since you don't know what it means. Harassment by definition is ONGOING abuse. One single comment does not qualify as harassment.

Wow, there are some just amazing statements here. I hate talking in these types of threads because I come here to talk footy but some of the posts are just so out of this world.

All bullys are cowards, people who use the cloak of supposed anonymity to try and belittle others for self gratification are cowards. I would be more than happy for regulation to be introduced to prevent this sort of cowardly behaviour. Robbie has gone through a tough year, maybe the toughest in his life and I support him 100%. If this happened to a friend of mine I would be exactly the same, Robbie gets no special treatment but he is delving into an issue that is much larger than one errant tweet by some two toothed bandit and that is what a lot of people just have no concept of or depth of understanding, and it shows.

he/she didn't defame him

it was a distasteful tweet about his mother

not being a threat i doubt there's much that can be done about it
Agreed but it can easily be used as a fueled example of what can happen online. It is far from the worst example and a lot of people get ongoing cyber bullying as abuse that aren't as famous as Robbie, they don't have an automatic voice. But if this example forces us to look at ways to make social media a safer environment in general then i am 100% behind it.

are you people actually suggesting that the government should have more control over what we say? you realise this law is going to be extended to other areas of speech on the internet too? how quickly you forget the internet filter that was vehemently protested.

there is no black or white definitions when it comes to internet speech. bandwagon against me please with the information you have sourced from your dumbshit footballer idols and pathetic 'news' (propaganda) reporters.

could someone also please give me robbie farahs twitter address?

It is only a matter of time before the police find a way to crack down on idiots like this and others.

they already have the means and legislation to do so, this is about capitalizing on robbies situation to force through more controlling legislation. honestly people who have no clue on how the internet works should shut the f**k up and leave their uneducated opinions to themselves.

there are already MULTIPLE things in place to prevent this stuff from happening. not only can robbie delete the comment, block the user, he can also appeal to twitter to review the comment, who can close the account and forward the information onto the police if deemed necessary, which is WHAT THEY HAVE DONE.

i dont know why i expected a bunch of dumb football fans to get this though.

There's a line. It's trolling but ok to write "Hey Robbie, you're shit!" but to do what that guy did? Way too far and shit like that needs to be wiped out.

People shouldn't have to avoid using social mediums such as Twitter because of the possible threat of being "cyber-bullied".

The onus should be on the people causing the abuse, some people speak as if they have a free pass to say and do what they like because it's online and people should expect to be attacked.

Tell me where does the line start, Why is it ok to say hey Robbie you're shit if it actually offends him

Also Robbie is one of the biggest trolls on twitter , putting shit on Bryce Gibbs all the time

I'm just saying that being attacked on the internet shouldn't be a given, it should be taken in the same stance as being attacked in person.

The ability to hide behind a computer shouldn't give you a straight passage to attack somebody.

But he wasn't attacked...
