Mortal Kombat (1995)
Back To School (1986)
Gleaming The Cube (1989)
Best Of The Best (1989)
Super Snooper (1980)
Before The Devil Knows You're Dead (2007)
School Ties (1992)
Quills (2000)
Buffalo '66 (1998)
Death Becomes Her (1992)
High Plains Drifter (1973)
Rodney Dangerfield films are always great for a good laugh. The bloke was so unique, Easy Money, Back to School and of course Caddyshack (Bill Murray also kills it as Carl)

My goodness, we have similar taste in movies! Love the Trinity boys! My favourites are "Watch Out, We're Mad" and "Odds and Evens"
These films were so popular with my mates and I when we were young. Crime Busters where they accidentally join the Miami Police Dept and become motor cycle cops. Great comedy and memories.

Sharknado
Snakes on a plane

dunno if they a really “cult” films with a cult following as such... but they were off-the-wall movies that gained enormous interest..

Flying High
The Naked Gun

Cult comedies... that many people can quote endlessly..

I think I might be the only person alive who dislikes "Caddyshack". I just could not get into it at all.

I'm super pumped! Just got a delivery from Amazon that contains my Friday the 13th Box Set on Blu Ray. Every movie in super hi-def plus tonnes of extras like featurettes and deleted scenes (extra gore Woo-Hoo!). Big week coming up as me and my fellow horror fanatic friend spend some quality time with Jason Vorhees at Camp Crystal Lake.

Clerks
Clerks 2
Mallrats
Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back
(Hopefully the upcoming Clerks 3 will be as good as the first two)

Actually of those ones I think Mallrats is a genuine cult classic in that is was panned on release, flopped, yet has become a beloved movie over time.

There's nothing that says a movie must be disregarded on release for it to be a cult classic. Plenty of cult movies were latched on to from the moment they came out.

I wasn't saying that was a must for a cult movie, but I think lots of what we consider cult classic (less so in this thread as we don't appear to have a definition) do flop on release.

Very true. The term cult classic can be a subjective term. Jaws has been mentioned in the thread, and it’s widely recognised as the first of the “Summer Blockbusters” just like all the Marvel stuff now. But the thread has been a great source of info so far. So it’s all good brother.

For me, cult classics are films that people watch over and over and they tell their friends to watch it. Another rule of thumb is that if they used to screen it at the Valhalla in Glebe, then it was probably a cult classic.

As popular as that movie was, it is still underrated in that so many small ingredients were put together to make one perfect recipe. You could easily pick half a dozen scenes in that movie that are absolute classics. But, I agree the Shaw one was the best.

I love the scene when Ellen Brody comes down to the wharf to see her husband off on the boating trip and Quint is having a foul mouthed rant and Ellen runs off in tears, it was such a brilliant scene.

Below is another great scene/ moment

That scene on the dock is literally where the movie changes. The music and mood change and we have moved from setting the scene to the epic quest. Quint is getting on a roll and we see the two worlds overlap as you've described.

It is one of those rare movies where every star aligned
I know Spielberg has such a huge list of film accomplishments, but Jaws is the ultimate feat. Great story, a mechanical shark that hardly worked, going over budget and being a new comer to the dynasty of movie studio bosses and he comes up with one of greatest cinematic feats ever.
There are not many movies around where every single aspect of it is perfect. "Jaws" is a movie that is very hard to fault. I agree that it is the best movie of Spielberg's career (no mean feat there). It is a movie that could have failed so easily and many shark movies have fallen into the toilet.
