A few vigilante classics

The Exterminator
Savage Streets
Rolling Thunder
Coffy
Foxy Brown
Vigilante
The Exterminator is a real blast from my young days. Another interesting fact the Vietnam scenes were filmed at the Indian Dunes movie ranch along the Santa Clara River in northern LA County. Not far from where the Uh1 crashed a few years later killing Vic Morrow and two illegally employed child actors during filming of John Landis’ segment for The Twilight Zone.

Some great films mentioned.

Some that haven't ...

Pitch Black - Never watched the sequel rubbish though.

Yes the second movie "The Chronicles of Riddick" (2004) was very poor but the third movie "Riddick" (2013) was rather good. Main part of the story is that the father of the bounty hunter he killed in Pitch Black (William Johns (played by Cole Hauser)) comes looking for him to find out the circumstances of why Riddick killed him. The Father is played by Matt Nable (yep, that Matt Nable - and no, he doesn't do any voice overs in the movie). That said a lot of it feels like re-hash of Pitch Black.

It is one of those rare movies where every star aligned

There are not many movies around where every single aspect of it is perfect. "Jaws" is a movie that is very hard to fault. I agree that it is the best movie of Spielberg's career (no mean feat there). It is a movie that could have failed so easily and many shark movies have fallen into the toilet.

Also add the brilliant John Williams score, definitely one of his greatest, just lends to the whole mood of the movie.

Did anyone else love the House movies.

The House films are as follows:

  • House (1986)
  • House II: The Second Story (1987)
  • House III: The Horror Show (1989)
  • House IV: The Repossession (1992)
Only watched House, the 1986 one. Another great memory from my teen years. Not to mention it had the Greatest American Hero as the main actor in a horror film! The three sequels are on my must see list.

House 3 is the best of the sequels.
Another film for the list - Pootie Tang

If Chevy Chase wasn't in it, it would have been so much better. The other supporting roles are so amazing.
Never have been a fan and agree with you about Caddyshack. Rodney Dangerfield and Bill Murray are the stars and a small nod at Spaulding Smailes.

Flash Gordon (1980). Its pure shlock but I have a soft spot for it and some very over the top performers in it -

Mind you the kick-ass songs from Queen help.
The first P&O cruise I went on was showing this in their cinema. I watched it twice a day for the whole 14 day cruise. on the second last day I was running late (having fun in the pool), and the projectionist delayed starting it as he knew I would be along soon. You're right about the soundtrack too. It's a beauty!

It’s schlock but it’s good enjoyable schlock, I haven’t seen it fully in years but caught a bit of it on SBS last week and had a good laugh at some of the acting and dialogue , the over the top acting reminded of the other classic movie Flesh Gordon

A little before my time Jim with Flash Gordon, but my first and only cruise was on the Fairstar with mum,dad younger brother and other family members I was still in high school. The premier movie was Lethal Weapon. Must have watched it half a dozen times during the 9 day cruise.
