Few Changes that Might Help

The changes that WOULD help are:

1. Massive attitude adjustment
2. Pride in performance
3. Playing for each other
4. More than one set play

I don't know what's dumber, Stuart wanting Hayne at five eight, or you putting Roberts in the centers.

I really think as bad as Parra are going, a few changes to the team structure and line-up could really help to kick-start them....For example, I had high hopes Esi Tonga could develop, wow was he a disappointment on the weekend. Sure we could give him or Ryan Morgan more time in the centres, but right now, we cannot afford to carry players, so that left centre spot really needs fixing, as do a few other positions

A reshuffle like this could potentially work...and sure some will say its too much of a change, but let's be honest, what do we really have to lose at this point of the season???

1. Burt
2. Sio
3. Roberts
4. Tonga
5. Blair
6. Hayne
7. Sandow

Luke Burt is a first-grader. Sure he does have weaknesses in defence and at times under the high ball at Fullback, but I believe the positives and experience he brings to the side outweigh those negatives. He needs to be back in the team this year.

Ben Roberts can be a useful player in our team. However, he has never been able to lead a team from the halves consistently over long periods, which has been my major criticism of him as a player. He really is rocks or diamonds as some have suggested - its a good analogy. I think his mistake-riddled game when calling the shots down the stretch against the Sharks proves that theory in comparison to his good game against Manly. However, his strengths are running the ball and his solid defence. Right now, we have a glaring hole at left centre right now and Roberts plays mainly on the left side. Sure Roberts has never really played centre, but the position suits his strengths and should limit his weaknesses. Apart from trying him at Hooker or even Lock, I seriously think he could add value to the team in the centres.

Jarryd Hayne has done a 360 in terms of his thoughts about him being a 5/8. I say thank the Lord. He can and ultimately will be successful in that position/role and it MUST happen for Parramatta. The major stumbling block to this in the past was Jarryds unwillingness to play there full-time - now it seems this doesn't phase him as much. I hope he embraces it.

8. Mannah
9. Keating
10. Allgood
11. Hindmarsh
12. Moimoi
13. Maitua

Fuifui Moimoi is actually playing wide left backrow in the main currently and has been for the past few weeks - let's make it a permanetn move. He has the size, speed and mobility to play there in short bursts and right now the team is craving some strikepower in the backrow. Hindy plays as the middle backrow (or pseudo third prop), Reni Maitua plays the wide right backrower, so its not much of a change. Matt Keating is really frustrating the hell out of me right now, especially with that silly offside play the he did 2 or 3 times on the weekend and luckily only got pinged for it once. At the moment, he is our best option at Hooker. Allgood and Mannah are going well enough. Hindy is Hindy.

14. McGuire
15. Paulo
16. Ryan
17. Poore

Sure that type of bench is probably shot on a front-rower, but Hindy plays like one anyway and can still play 80 mins. This bench gives us some versatility and creativity with Paulo (as much as I still believe he is really is a reserve-grader masquerading as a first grader) and McGuire. Matt Ryan looks solid.

Thoughts?

I only just read this and my first reactions are .... WTF?!

Lockyear was a 5/8 a; thru his junior days & only played fullback because he couldnt oust walsters at the time so him go back to 5/8 was only a matter of time.
but not yet. In another
Hayne will be a great / years yes.

Fui has had his worst 2 years since being put on the bench & playing out wide. He is a battering ram & should be used that way. He should only go out wide if they play a set move other whys let him mix it with the big boppas

Can you say that again?

the point was move Roberts to a position where he doesn't need to be a chief playmaker...utilise his strengths, his running game and his solid defence. i also suggested Lock might be another option for Roberts. He will not be a our long-term 5/8 anyway.....the silly jibes at me that some keep coming up with are rather pointless

So you know for a fact he won't be our 5/8 for a while? Or perhaps you're just hoping he won't be.

no i don't know that for a fact, but signing Will Hopoate for 2014 was a fair indication...along with talk that Hayne will eventually go to 5/8....???

Who's to say Hayne will be here past 2013? If what certain people have said are true the chances are fairly high he won't be.

well if that does happen its pretty much the ruination of our club as we know it for the foreseeable future :(

thing is, if we don't start winning games, that may well happen. you can talk agendas and rubbish about me all you like (not just you, but you have a fair dig), but i LOVE the Eels and the club is in trouble. They desperately need to start winning games and I only ever make comments about the coach or certain players in what i consider are the best interests of our club

it may well be time to make Hayne the Captain (or at least co-captain this season) and just finally tell him, the team is your's mate, now prove to us that you are up to it

anyone else think (as long as a replacement 5/8 could be found) that roberts would offer us far more than matt keating at hooker?

YES. I actually mentioned this in the original post in this thread. I am suggesting Centre mainly as we have a desperate, glaring need at left Centre, but sure Roberts could also be effective at either Hooker or Lock....its all about options and testing different line-ups

On what basis can one assume Roberts would make a better hooker than Keating? Keating's defence is miles ahead of Roberts' - if we're getting torn apart now, how bad would it potentially get with Roberts defending in the middle?

People are critical of Keating's apparent lack of creativity out of dummy-half, and yet the suggestion is to throw in a player that that you yourself, True EEL, have said is not up to playing in the halves...

Truly - the idea and the logic seemingly behind it baffle me. Roberts at centre, whilst a bad idea in my opinion, has more merit to it.

i'm didn't suggest dropping Keating....I actually said MK is still our best option at Hooker. If Keating were to be injured, then perhaps Roberts could play there. Also at Hooker, Roberts would not be expected to carry much of the burden of creative attacking play, but rather play a supplementary role in that department - one which he would be more suited too....

playing in the halves and being a chief playmaker is a still a world away from playing at hooker, even in the modern game
