Maybe he's the rumored 'halfback' instead of cooper

I certainly hope not :p

He is a fantastic buy and it is great to see the club bring in some great talent with half an eye on the future but there is no way he would have been on the clubs primary candidates list.

Hell, he may very well feature heavily in our first grade squad next year but in my opinion that would be due to the club having to cash in an insurance policy (his signing) due to failed signings this year rather than it been all part of some master plan.

Also bear in mind he is only graduating from the NYC this year so some time in the NSW Cup would hardly damage his future chances at first grade.

Who the hell is Quade Cooper?
Based on a few forumites and credited sources that came in via youtube, he may very well be the greatest, most talented halfback to ever grace any code of football. He is now deciding between a premiership victory with the eels or a world cup win with the wallabies.

Who the hell is Quade Cooper?

Cooper is a prodigious talent albeit a tad temperamental, arguably his strongest talent is his running game. He has good speed and surprising strength in his wiry frame. He has some great footwork to boot so he is a real handful when he takes on the line or gets into broken play.

His left and right passes are also quality (like any decent union 5/8) and he has both a long and short passing game. From what I've seen of his kicking, he has good meterage on his boot but I haven't really seen many aggressive try scoring kicks which is more to do with Union itself. Another asset that he possesses is the ability to offload, which sounds trivial for any decent league player but a true offload is alot rarer for union players.

He is a fairly complete package in attack and isn't too bad in defence but I can't validate his organising credentials since he has Will Genia (for both Qld and Wallabies) marshalling the forwards.

He is a natural fit for an oldschool league 5/8 and outside of any decent half who could take some pressure off him he would terrorise teams. He could definitely work as a halfback though, especially with the playmaking skills that Hayne possesses to compliment him.

Mind the taste in music for those videos, it certainly isn't going to appeal to everyone. Thank god for volume controls, ey? :D

Leaving ... Quade Cooper departs for South Africa with the Wallabies.

PARRAMATTA officials are willing to wait until Quade Cooper's return from South Africa in a fortnight to learn whether he will switch codes. Less than 24 hours before he boarded the Wallabies' flight for Johannesburg, Cooper is understood to have travelled to Parramatta on Thursday night for a look at the club's set up.

The Wallabies' team management, aware that the 22-year-old five-eighth was planning to meet Eels officials, made the visit difficult by scheduling a mid-afternoon weights session yesterday after the players had completed ball-work training, and he was later required to attend a team meeting.

However, the Herald was told yesterday that Cooper had made the trip to Parramatta and is believed to have been picked up at the Wallabies team hotel in Coogee by Eels officials and dropped back several hours later.

Whether he makes the switch now or waits until after next year's Rugby World Cup in New Zealand, Parramatta officials are convinced Cooper eventually intends to play in the NRL and have tabled a massive offer that could enable Australia's Super 14 player of the year to earn up to $1 million through third-party deals.

However, the ARU has increased its initial $360,000 offer, which includes $150,000 from the Queensland Reds.

It is understood Cooper would now be guaranteed more than $500,000 if he re-signed and could earn an additional $180,000 in match payments if he played every Test for Australia next year.

The ARU and Parramatta want Cooper to sign for three years, but ARU boss John O'Neill indicated this week that a one-year deal with an option for a second year might be acceptable to ensure the Wallabies playmaker was available for the World Cup.

Given his standing in the team, the ARU cannot afford to lose Cooper before the World Cup and may again increase its offer to prevent him becoming the first Wallaby to switch codes for the first time since Garrick Morgan in 1995.

But Eels officials are also desperate to sign a top-rate playmaker to partner Daniel Mortimer in the halves next season and had expressed interest in Cooper Cronk, Trent Barrett, Brett Kimmorley and Matt Orford.

The Eels are believed to have offered Cronk $850,000 and that deal has now been made available to Cooper, who is said to have been insulted by the ARU's initial offer of a $100,000 increase on his $260,000-per-season deal.

Suggestions Cooper may struggle in South Africa, thereby affecting his negotiating power, appear wide of the mark, as he has been man-of-the-match in three of the four Super 14s matches he has played there.

On a 2 year deal, confirmed in this weeks RLW.

Thanks for that
I definately know who he is - saw him give our 20's a lesson a few weeks ago when that young winger broke his ankle and was thinking i wish we had a young half like that coming through...hmm....
just didn't know we had signed him....

also...the QC article sounds a tad more promising....unless it was simply a parting shot before his tour to frighten the old boys brigade into more money???

Hmmmmm........
I can't tell whether or not he is coming, all these articles coming out seem to confirm the media believes he will got to Parramatta.....hmmm...
What is alarming though is that if we do get him, but for 2012, then what do we do with 2011? We have to comply with the salary cap, we can't just say "we will leave this space empty for next year".

Just sign up anyone on a one year deal for $800K. Anyone will do.

You only have to spend the amount the NRL gives you.

So we could actually sit $750k under the cap (cap is $4.1 mill, club grant from NRL is $3.35).

So in theory we could just not spend that money...

I'd prefer we sign someone to a NEW 3 year contract for $850k this year and then $55k each of the 2 following. (so total income = $320k per year, but gives us huge cap flexibility!). You cannot renegotiate current deals to fit that format, but you can initiate new ones that way.
