You really are an optimist if you think anyone can be coached "defence" at our club.so do I....I just saw some Pearson vids man hes fast! now just for the defence and mungrel work Im sure he can be coached hes damn quick
Love to see some of the Fijian fells vids though anyone?
I agree and don't understand why some on here feel the Club has done well. I am glad we have signed some young wingers of size and speed however, they do not have extensive first grade experience. They aren't in contention for SOO selection. The problem IMO is we are retaining old legs and giving them contract extensions.
What we have let go we needs to be replaced with big upgrades but what we have retained or signed is nowhere near an upgrade.
If weren't good enough this year then we certainly will not be better off for letting players go without upgrading them.
People getting their rocks of on Perreira just astounds me.
He did a job as well as he could do it when called upon and was very professional in doing it but he is certainly not a starting NRL winger for any club with premiership aspirations but in this place people think he is.
I don’t won’t to sound like Mr negativity either.
BUT
Pearson wasn’t in FG, due to Isaako and Oates and we went further than Brisbane.
Ravalawa wasn’t in FG due to Cotric and Rapana and we went further than Canberra.
How about the grand finalist Melbourne and Roosters. Are we signing wingers of the quality that Melbourne or Roosters have on thier flanks next year?
Not saying they don’t have lots of potential and it maybe the break they need. It maybe a brilliant move. There is no certainties except for the fact that we truly are the bargain basement shoppers when it comes to our backline players.
Not having a go at you but I think this is a very flawed comment. We went further than both Canberra and Brisbane and as you stated their wingers are Isaako and Oates and Cotric and Rapana. So by your logic because we went further than those 2 teams, our wingers are better? Therefor you wouldnt take any of the four wingers mentioned over our current ones?

I’m just highlighting areas that I see we are deficient in when comparing our opposing teams. I made the comments after reading earlier comments of how some believe we are not being positive about such recruitments. I feel we should be atleast the very least be keeping abreast with the others, and I fear we may not be in some vital areas (ie our wingers). I guess I was hoping (silly I know) that we were keeping Nene and possibly adding Oates or similar, but I’m still hopeful and ‘gambling’ on these (cheaper options) other chaps might end well after all, plus also JP.
The problem is that if they turn out to be any good, their price will rise and possibly be beyond our cap capacity given that Millward thought he had bought at bargin price. The bargain will only be short term.
So if the Wingers turn out ok, and become more expensive it’s Milwards fault again ?The problem is that if they turn out to be any good, their price will rise and possibly be beyond our cap capacity given that Millward thought he had bought at bargin price. The bargain will only be short term.
Whilst I am not unhappy losing Nene, I believe there is that 1st grade winger / back etc and a prop still to come but not Oates (too expensive). Lets just sit back, wait and hope.I agree and don't understand why some on here feel the Club has done well. I would have rather we:
- Replaced Nightingale with Oats.
- Got rid of Aitken and Lafai and replaced them with Lomax and Mann.
- Now that Macdonald is gone, replace him with a first grade big/fast winger.
- If funds are available buy fullback/centre as backup if Dufty does not work out during 2019.
- Buy a big top grade prop.
Well thats great recruitment isnt it. Buying at the right price. Buy low / sell high. Same as the property market. Smart if it works out that way. The key is to offload over inflated priced pleyers who dont provide valueand worth to a team relative to their market standing price. I believe Dugan and Packer fell out of that value for their perceived market worth. The problem is that if they turn out to be any good, their price will rise and possibly be beyond our cap capacity given that Millward thought he had bought at bargin price. The bargain will only be short term.
Thats 4 1st grade wingers out of total of 32 required to fill 16 teams. You cant have the best 2 and all those except for Oates who is over priced are not available.I would take any two of Isaako, Oates, Cotric, Rapana over the wingers we had last year and the ones proposed by Millward for 2019. Both of our first choice wingers from 2018 are gone.
So if the Wingers turn out ok, and become more expensive it’s Milwards fault again ?
FMD.
No, I believe Millward to be a simple person who is in over his head. This position was gifted to him by the old boys - no advertising the position of interviews. So if the Wingers turn out ok, and become more expensive it’s Milwards fault again ?

No worries mate. No, I believe Millward to be a simple person who is in over his head. This position was gifted to him by the old boys - no advertising the position of interviews.
I truly believe that if the salaries being paid to NRL players plus the TPA, Millward would be embarrassed mainly because he has paid overs to our forward pack and halves at the expense of our back 5. In my opinion Millward takes the path of least resistance when it comes to negotiating with player managers.
