Flanno's New Signings

Messages

Listened to the Flanagan interview on 2GB.
Main takeaways were:
1) Flanagan received around 6/7 phone calls from player managers about the vacant number half back role today.
2) Flanagan did not sound confident about signing JAC.
Said salary cap constraints are the main reason.
3) Flanagan confirmed the interest in Gutherson.
Two main points following the interview.
Mark Levy said Carryannis is reporting the Dragons have offered Gutherson a 3 year deal, starting from 2025.
There was also one open line caller who said Cody Ramsey will be joining the squad for preseason training, including the full contact sessions.
Make of it what you will.

As far as the JAC issue is concerned, what that means is Flanno is not prepared to get bent over for JAC, and nor will he. JAC can go pissing into the wind and see what its like.

I have a feeling Gutho is done deal now. The money for Hunt will go to Gutho. Probably our staring Spine will be

Sloane (FB) with Holmes backup
Gutho (five/eight), Kyle (HB) - with LKT backup
Cooke (Hooker) - with Liddle backup and 14th (or the other way around Cooke's explosive speed from dummy half can destroy any tired pack.
You don’t pay Gutho all that money to play 6. To say he’s superior to TS is a huge understatement.

If Gutho was that quick across the ground he’d be a generational talent.

He’s Fullback ack and Captain. No doubt. And I love it. And soon everyone here will absolutely love him.

Easily our best FB since Darbs.

The Ben Hunt domino has fallen, and not a moment too soon with 1st November now only about 30 hours or so away.

If it's true that Flanno has received a number of phone calls today from player managers about the vacant halves position - I say best he makes a quick assessment about who the top two or three contenders are, table the offers, and lock someone in as soon as possible (if O'Sullivan & Wishart are among those options - we surely can't go wrong).

Alternative plan is to lock down Gutho and have him play six, whilst maybe chasing a depth signing to cover the halves. Surely we can't go wrong twice i.e. another Volkman type scenario.

If Gutho is going to be signed - that would leave two spots left in the top 30? So one half and one forward?

Why wouldn't Gutho be played at 6. He would be an awesome 6. Strong defender, still reasonably quick (when not playing with injuries), has a very good passing game, very good linking skills, backs up (one of the best), has vision, digs into the line. Most of his career he has played like a 6. Reminds me a lot of Lockyer
He did play a few games there for Parra a few years back - the year they won the wooden spoon. He's a fullback.

Funny you post this.. I was literally just checking my spreadsheet.. somehow I was missing Egan.. it really is only 3 slots.. i.e. we can only fit Lodge, Atkinson, Gutho.. and if we want JAC.. we are going to need to sell Ravalawa first.. a like for like.. which will offset his cost also.

Then if we want any more forwards or a Marshke replacement.. were gonna need to clear more again..

Missing Corey Allan? Think he signed on for another year…

Sounds like Finau is going, from what I hear.
Few on here have said that he definitely isnt going (despite the persistent rumours), and tbf I think he is our starting right winger, so he would be crazy to go play reserve grade elsewhere...

If we do sign JAC, it would be left wing.. it does leave CTui/Feagai/Allan/Ramsey/Sloan potentially in reserves.. does feel like a couple too many there.. some of those are covering centre and fullback also mind you.

There is no indication that Cody Ramsey will be in the Top 30

His Top 30 deal ended this year and the club could easily add him as a development or train and trial player to help guide his return to the game

Current Top 30 consists of

1. Tyrell Sloan
2. Christian Tuipulotu
3. Valentine Holmes
4. Mathew Feagai
5. Mikaele Ravalawa
6. Kyle Flanagan
7. Corey Allan
8. Jacob Liddle
9. Damien Cook
10. Francis Molo
11. Michael Molo
12. Luciano Leilua
13. Jaydn Su’a
14. Jack De Belin
15. Hame Sele
16. Villiami Fifita
17. Sione Finau
18. Ryan Couchman
19. Toby Couchman
20. Blake Lawrie
21. Hamish Stewart
22. Dylan Egan
23. Loko Pasifiki Tonga
24. Moses Suli
25. Raymond Faitala - Mariner
26. Tom Eisenhuth *
27. Clint Gutherson *
28.
29.
30.
The final spots could go to Lodge , JAC and a Halfback or if JAC isn’t a priority it could go to another forward or the club could decide to re-sign BMM
