Flanno's New Signings

In my opinion the issue is not with signing Illias but its whether the combination of Illias and Flanagan is good enough. Its probably not ideal given their playing styles and the lack of a more creative 13. It means Cook is probably our key signing for the 2025 season, as we will need to shift to much more creating from the 9.

Illias himself, if the speculated salary is true and that Souths are paying some, is a very good signing.

Souths apparently are paying $200k out of his $500k, that is what I have read. I also look at things this way, would Cook also put his reputation at stake if he knew Ilias was a dud and got him over to the Dragons. He would absolutely get roasted on this forum, and the average fan would take a dim view of him. Plus Flanno would have also done a lot of due diligence, he's going to be our playmaker FFS, so it wouldn't be a McF$#kit or Hook off the cuff signing. Lets trust the kid and Flanno, and hey if it all goes wrong they can both fall on their swords, I dont think Flanno is quite prepared to give it away just yet !!

You know what justa, both Kyle and Lachlan are players that have had their confidence kicked out of them by their former clubs - Bulldogs and Souths - respectively. I can see that Kyle is now gaining much more confidence under his Dad and I think young Lachlan will also get that confidence in him through Flanno. I have no doubt, like Cookie has that Ilias will come good for us in the Dragons colours.

That's a very good point. At his peak, JDB was good as a ball playing lock. Maybe he can revert to that role? Sele is a good ball player. Cook & Gutho will be very important in helping with creativity in our attack. I think we were effective when attacking through Liddle last year, I expect even better with Cook & Liddle sharing that role this year. It might also be a reason why Cook is slated to play a bit of 13 this year to help shift the ball & add creativity.

The Illias and Cook combo will be good. They know each others game hence why a smart signing. KFlanno, and Lykan will play on the back of that.

I am not expecting exciting footy from Saints, just good old school grinding wins. No more 40+ scorelines. Defence needs to improve 1000% and must surely be the big focus. If they get that right Saints will go well.

The key point to all of this is that Souths had a shocker in 2024 and Ilias WASN'T the player stinking it up for 25 rounds. He only played 2 games. To me it looked like Ilias was running the show in the first eleven rounds of 2023 and the bunnies led the comp. The 2 "superstars" (Walker and Latrell) started playing crap in the second half of 2023 and Souths dropped out of the sky. This terrible form continued from the middle of 2023 until Demetriou was sacked and Benny Hornby took over.

More to it...From a Source who did some pre season stuff there...Their attitude was not what it should have been....

Bennett will have a big job on his hands.

Illias should help with the defence, all reports are he's a great defender. Hunt was pretty poor imo & Kyle is pretty good. Kyle & Ilias just need to focus on organising the sets & kicking well. We've got plenty of attacking weapons outside of them. Every player should be focused on nailing their role.

I think Bennett will have a hard time, especially with Cook gone & Murray missing a large part of the season. Walker body looks cooked, he's a bit too emotional & Latrell floats in n out of the season. You can't rely on them providing consistent performances.

I think a change of scenery for Ilias would be good for him. He can fly under the radar a bit more at the Dragons with everyones low expectations of him.

Agree but in Flanno we trust he knows what he is doing. We have been patient & enjoyed the benefits. One position left….cummon Flanno give us the best off season for years !
