Flanno's New Signings

I know he isn’t a bad pickup in terms of ability, but I have so many concerns on the signing, from culture perspective mainly. Not a guy I ever wanted in the red V
Looking at him from the outside, the guy still has a very good go forward game. Since the 6 again rule came in though, I thought he really struggled with his lack of mobility in defence.

There must be a reason why the man bounces from club to club though. I'd think his Roosters and Manly contracts would have been peanuts, yet both let him go.

IMO he’s far from a marquee player, more of a security signing to support our middle forwards. IMO he would be surplus at Manly and Roosters who are strong in the middle rotation.

He’s a tough uncompromising forward and IF used it will be for short stints to assist our post contact meters.

If some of our juniors excel he may not see any FG, either way a smart economical purchase

He was strong for Manly at the tale end of the season. Similar in his appearances for the Roosters. Unfortunately for Lodge, both Roosters and Manly are very strong in middles as mentioned by "Belta" (surplus). Definitely an area we HAD to strengthen whilst we await the Couchman and LPT and others.

I know someone has posted this already but if you got a spare hour or 2 it is a good watch. Noone is perfect, he is a Dragon now and it won't be long before he is upgraded to top 30. Lodge or Lawrie I know who I would rather tackle. Molo and Lodge 2 aggressive props that won't get bent back

Flanno is the coach who can bring out the best in Lodge. This is his last chance to earn a lucrative NRL contract.

I'm of the opinion that many on here will be very pleased with the Lodge signing by the end of the 2025 season.

Not sure he is looking for one! Maybe he’s happy to get 1-2 years deals. He’s aimed up last few clubs anyway. This isn’t a save Lodge lifeline signing at all imo. We’re talking and signed him because he’s been played strongly, end of story! I think Flanagan expects him to continue do the same at Saints.

Yep. Welcome to the mighty Red V. Here's your chance to be a bit of a leader to the young blokes if you think you can be and want to be. It's up to you.

Yep, putting aside off field issues, he needs to make his mark at one club.

Flanno has thrown him a lifeline. We all know he is capable, but it's on him to make this move work.

He's been at the Tigers, Roosters, Manly, NZ, Brisbane. apart from the Broncos, he has barely played a dozen games for the rest.

BTW he's only 29.

Thanks for the heads up, I listen to the Bye Round podcasts regularly but didn’t listen to this one maybe because I had a preconceived idea of Matt Lodge but I just listened to it because he could potentially be a Dragon in 2025. Another great interview by James Graham & I believe he could be a great signing. Yes he stuffed up to a greater degree than most but a person can change & anyone that without any funfair will pay for an up & coming players surgery in my view deserves another chance. He has had a few clubs but continues to carrying the baggage from his past. There are plenty of examples of players doing the wrong thing but have been forgiven but he isn’t one. i totally support a no-dhead policy but believe we should give this bloke a chance to show he has changed & let’s see what he can do for us. I for one am happy with his signing & Flanno knows his potential & has played this very well IMO !

From the first time I saw Lodge play for the Tigers he was such a standout. His strength, power, reflexes and athleticism were just elite. Many big guys will train hard for their whole career but never have the natural assets that this guy possesses.
The questions are whether his body is injury free and that he still has the desire to be an elite NRL player. I guess Flanno has put him on a T&T contract to answer these questions.

If there is truth to this... it is a potential, equivalent level, prop signing to that of Mick Weyman in the lead up to 2009.
