what do you reckon he did mate?

he wanted out ages ago - and he told them.
or he wanted better conditions

what do you reckon they told him?

Source or delete it. There is nothing to suggest SBW ever went to the club and said he "wanted out"- only he wanted more money./

Stop talking out of your arse

No, they should take it to court, go after SBW and his associates for costs and damages, and then use the greater sum of money at the end to spend on junior league etc.

Will be the best contribution SBW has made to league in his career.

Even if they win, SBW just has to not come back to Australia and he doesn't have to pay a cent.

Mate- have you ever worked a job in your life?

YOu sign a contract and there are plenty of businesses who have a "code of conduct", just like the NRL clubs do. Your contract stipulates that you may have your contract terminated if it is deemed you breach this code.

Carney has been charged by the law before. He broke the code of conduct of the club on more than one occasion. You seriously cannot be defending him and saying the club screwed him over by sacking him. He had his chance...

Its in their contracts (just like busineses) that if you dont adhere to business codes and policies, you will be sacked.

my issue is with the nrl.

so because he breached the terms of his contract and was fired, he doesn't deserve to play in the only profession he can in his own country?

what an overreaction!!

if I get sacked, i can still go and work for a competitor - even if I pissed on my boss's leg at the pub or led a high speed chase throught he suburbs.

Exactly. I was going to bring up the Carney example.

I believe there is other things that could have been done to fix up Carney's act than to kick him out of the club and de-register him.

It is situations like this that create SBW-like scenarios.

This is a joke right???????

to further proce my point - what about Carney???
he gets sacked by his club, and the nrl also deregister him for good!

where on earth do you get sacked by your company, and then you get barred from the whole industry you specialise in, when there is no legal reason (ie - charges dropped so no guilt can be associated to him)??
It's not an industry (even though I know what you mean) - you can't compare one sporting competition to another occupational industry.

The legal reasons were Carney has breached his contractual terms. The same as if I looked up porn using my work computer. You'd get punted... and probably with no/much less chance of landing a similar job in that industry.

if Gallop keeps this crap up attacking players, the nrl are in for more and more defections and possibly stronger action by the players...
Or young jumped up merkins will be less likely in the future to follow the leads of SBW and Carney, and more likely to do the right thing by their contracts in terms of their behaviours, and in doing so do the right thing by their clubs and their sport.

These guys aren't automatically entitled to earn the wages they do, it's not a god given right for being fit and being able to take coach's instructions. There are obligations too, when you sign to take the club's money.

And how can players take "stronger actions" against Gallop, when the only actions taken so far have been those of cowards and dumb f**ks?

Sonny Bill would probably be labouring for $15 an hour in New Zealand for the rest of his working life if it wasnt for Rugby League.

He came across as Anthony Mundines puppet. And the way in his interview he made it seem like he did what he did for other players was just weak. No to mention him claiming Steve Folkes was a major factor. Anyone who buys into has lost it. He left for money, and the way he left and tries to excuse it on everything else is a disgrace. If the conditions in league are as bad as he makes out, then howcome he is the only player in the NRL to ditch a team like that.

His head has just become way too big. He really started to believe he was bigger than the game.

You are missing the point. These guys are not just your average run of the mill blue collar workers. These guys are in the spotlight and are, like it or not, role models to so many young kids out there who want to be just like them in terms of their lives and professional abilities. These guys know they are in the spotlight and are expected to behave accordingly.

And again, you don't comprehend a contract. The contract is not just with the club, its with the NRL. He breaches one code, he breaches both. Otherwise, if you just sack him and not de-register him for a year, what does it prove?

I tell you what it will do... Players who want out of their deals will intentionally breach the code so they get sacked, and can sign a new deal the next day. Didn't think of that did we?

All clubs are sub-branches of the NRL giant. If i was sacked from Branch A of Corporation X, I wouldn't be allowed to work in Branch B of that same corporation would I?

You aren't a professional rugby league player, or even in the spotlight. These guys are and need to learn how to behave if they are going to be in the public's eye.

If he repeatedly showed that he couldn't abide by the guidelines, conditions or indeed ethics of the "industry", then yes.

Same for a doctor who gets deregistered, he can't just switch hospitals or states (or countries) in the same profession.

what an overreaction!!
Hardly.

So what? Think yourself lucky. The players have a choice whether they sign up for contracts with clubs/in the NRL, knowing the obligations and responsibilities that are spelt out in return for the moolah and the lifestyle.

The fact that these two players heads are too big for them to realised they have breached their conditions is their own fault, and entirely fair when you consider the sport is a business that (tries to) operate on sponsorships and ratings (but can't even cover it's costs as it is).

No it is not.

A club telling a player that he can't drink for two years to play for the team is an absolute joke.

so thats the reason SBW left?

stop bringing in red herrings.

SBW walked out on a legal contract for no reason other than more money.

the dogs did nothing wrong, nor did RL.

Exactly.

if I walked out on my contract right now, I'd be sued for doing so. You can't just sign a LEGALLY BINDING contract and walk away from it without any repercussions. You sign a contract, you honour the deal or face the legal ramifications.

Money wasn't the only factor. He was unhappy at the club.

Tana Umaga would have also been a huge influence, as I've stated.

Why do you think there was all these meetings?

He was lucky enough that they offered him what they did to stay after his past.
The club identified an alcohol problem with him and tried to rectify it. He declined so he was sacked.

Fair enough case if you ask me.

Well if he doesn't like it, he can walk... oh wait on, he was on his last chance after many breaches of his previous conditions, so he gets told to walk.

There's a vacancy down the local fish and chips shop Todd, provided you can meet the conditions of turning up on time, and not getting pissed in your work shirt and bringing disrespect to the company.

It's not much to ask, and when someone can't meet it, they don't have a choice over the conditions their company might want to impose on them. Their choice is to walk - but they aren't entitled to earn a living in that company/profession if they're not up to it.

Keep telling yourself that

I dont see how its anyone elses fault but the man himself for walkign away on the deal. No beef with him leaving for his reasons, but you don't just flee the contract without talking it over and at least trying to get a release from the deal at the club. Its wrong, morally, and ethically.

The reasons why SBW left are probably Rl and Bulldogs related.

But he is the one who did it in the wrong way.

Your boss is a bitch to you.

If you got offered 3 times what you are earning plus other benefits, to do an easier job on the French riviera. Would you?
