He won't look a chump for trying to work with the NRL, but he has got all his eggs in the Foran basket.
By the time this is resolved there will be no chance of any new signings.
And while others have every confidence in our squad I think we lack some bruising forwards.
Hey, according to nrl.com we've got the 5th-best forward pack in the comp... ;)

Hey, according to nrl.com we've got the 5th-best forward pack in the comp... ;)

Yeah. And we had them last year too, when they were a year younger.
And where did that get us?

Hey, it's 2017 - the year we finish in the top 4!

no cos he has no playing contract

however he is doing club duties so i suspect sum cash is coming his way from somewhere
Employed in an administrative role I suspect.

The whole story is never really told, eg the Eels issues that may have push him to want to leave, eg 3rd party, captain pressure, face of club, salary cap breach. Now none of those exisit at Warriors and external influences should be less.

Obviously family pressure, injury issues and potential been seen as some form of saviour are still on the cards and hopefully he is working through these, family situation normally (not always) get better with time.

The example also needs to be set for some of the club treatment of players.

It's pretty ordinary though. Their indecisiveness is perplexing. The NRLs lack of urgency and visibility on the issue is pretty ordinary for fans who have an interest in it

a couple of us went to the draw release and we asked greenburg about it and he said the nrl have sent letters to the warriors and are waiting to hear

The NRL should ban Foran permanently as he cannot stop associating with scum even when he knows that it has cost him his marriage and his sanity and now most likely his football career

Not to mention that his body is stuffed form years of NRL

Foran plays with fire

The NRL has been privately saying for months that it won't clear Kieran Foran to play for the Warriors in round one – and if he doesn't stop hanging around his good mate, the former brothel owner and pro punter Eddie Hayson, it won't be happening at all.

Foran and Hayson – who is at the centre of a match-fixing investigation, albeit one that doesn't seem to be going anywhere – vowed to leave each other alone so the troubled footballer could pick up the pieces of his career after walking out on Parramatta to deal with personal issues.

Staying away from Hayson was one of the conditions the NRL set down for Foran late last year if he was to have a playing contract registered.

Head office hasn't been too pleased to learn of the pair being seen together during the off-season.

Don't agree re who he associates with. The NRL pay him to play footy.

What if your boss told you who you could talk to ?

Don't think that would be an NRL requirement but it may well be a police requirement.
I believe "associating with known criminals" is frowned upon and was mentioned in the conditions of his re-registration.

I'm curious - has Hayson ever actually been convicted (or even charged) with anything? You can't be referred to as a known criminal by police if you don't have any offenses on your record...

The media like to play him up as "former brothel owner" and questionable gambler... but brothels are legal in Australia, and I hadn't seen anything about him being charged on betting offenses?

I mean... I have very little doubt the guy is a cancerous twatburger. He comes off a certain way (the unprovoked homophobic attacks etc) and I've known people like that before. But if he hasn't actually been convicted of anything then trying to link a restriction on associating with him with a player's registration could open the NRL up to legal action. I should clarify; legal action with a much more realistic chance of success than the McKinnon thing.

CONTROVERSIAL punter Eddie Hayson has made an impassioned plea to allow Kieran Foran to return to the game, denying suggestions the pair remain close.

The Daily Telegraph revealed last week that the NRL is unlikely to register Foran in time to play the first round for the New Zealand Warriors.

One condition for Foran to clear his path to return to the NRL was he must not have any contract with Hayson.

The Saturday Telegraph understands that NRL officials have some reservations about Foran’s ongoing relationship with Hayson, which has been part of the reason for the delay in the former Parramatta Eel being cleared to return.

But Hayson is adamant he had not seen Foran for months.

“I was distressed to learn that the reason Kieran won’t be cleared to return is because we’ve been in contact,” Hayson said.

“I haven’t seen him for over three months. I haven’t been hanging out with him. I haven’t had any contact with him.”

An NRL spokesman said “the review of the Kieran Foran case is ongoing”.

It is expected Foran will be cleared to play at some stage this year but he could miss up to the first six games before being allowed to resume his career.

The Warriors play his former club Parramatta in round six.

Foran has not played in the NRL since his nine-game stint at the Eels ended in May.

Hayson pleaded with the NRL to allow Foran to resume his career.

“I’m still gobsmacked,” Hayson said.

“I want to know what he has done wrong.

“I just wish for Kieran’s sake that the NRL would clear him so he is able to get on with his life, as he has done nothing wrong.”

Foran said last September he was “happy to pull the pin’’ on his relationship with Hayson if the NRL needed him to.

The pair remained close while Foran stayed on the Central Coast after being granted compassionate leave by the Eels last April.

Foran had been rushed to hospital after overdosing on prescription medication.

Hayson later claimed his friend “probably wouldn’t be alive’’ if he wasn’t in Foran’s life during this dark period, when he walked out on his $5 million Eels deal and separated from his partner.

They have been close for about a decade and have previously gambled together, last being pictured at the Gosford races in August.

Foran has made some headway with the game’s governing body since signalling his intentions to return to rugby league with the Auckland-based club.

The Warriors host Newcastle in round one.

They will welcome back former Sydney Rooster Roger Tuivasa-Sheck, who played just seven games in his first season with the Warriors before suffering a season-ending ACL injury.

The Warriors are on the sixth line of premiership betting with the TAB, rated an $11 chance, the same as Cronulla.

Saw a headline yesterday with Shaun Johnson declaring Foran isn't ready mentally or physically to play NRL, didn't read the article though so didn't see what sort of context those comments were spoken, but did find it ironic that it came from Shaun

Seems like he won't be seen on the park anytime soon if that statement is correct

Trash article largely taken out of context.

SJ said he wasn't ready to go right now and then elaborated with the media latching onto the not ready mentally and downplaying the physically even though SJ could easily have been talking about the mental aspect of recovering from a long term injury rather than off field issues.

My favourite was the nzherald who cut off the quote and had the headline - "Johnson: Foran not ready mentally"

Journalists are scum.

Cheers mate, couldn't agree more with you about journos and had a gut feel that they would have blown the comments out of proportion. Was on that germ Veitch's page where I saw it but didn't bother reading it because I'm banned from commenting on there these days lol.

They destroyed Brett Stewart years back, cost them 6 figures but still murdered his reputation

The journos are lucky to have such a knowledgeable expert in psycic player evaluation to refer to.

Despite the sensationalism from the the Journos its still concerning no? Remember he tried to off himself last year. He seemingly has been dealing with mental issues for well over 12 months and apparently still isn't ready but he will be in 8 weeks?

That depends. What are the mental issues? Was SJ directly referring to off field issues or the mental issues that come with contact after a major injury?

What SJ said was vague at best and its been reported as matter of fact to sell clicks. I don't disagree that SJ would have been better off not saying anything on the subject, but it's a trash article from a trash publication.

Does it really matter?. He tried to kill himself less than 12 months ago, how do you even separate them? Maybe the mental demons from his previous injuries were a factor in his bigger issues. He seemed to get minimal "FIFO" treatment before going back to footy, then he got injured and walked out of Parra and I can tell you I am from the central coast and after he quit Parra he was spotted around the place at different venues on the punt hard. Like has the guys head been right at any point in the last year?

Despite the gutter journalism it still kind of worries me, im sure the warriors are putting his welfare first but at the same time they didn't invest in signing him just to help him out, they did it because he is good at footy and they want something back from that investment, Foran would understand this and feel that pressure. That's not a dig at the warriors because I think every club would act the same.

In my humble opinion the best thing the NRL can do is to release him to play for the Warriors and let him get some stability back in his life.
This not-knowing must be very hard on him and we all know stress isn't good for anybody.

The journo probably asked SJ directly and SJ probably gave a vague answer in preference to simply "no comment". If he'd done the latter doubltless they'd have lead with "sJ refuses to talk about Foran" and made out he was hiding something. He can't win.
