Boyd would not be useless in any team, even behind our worse forward pack. His kick returns and second receiver plays are second only to Slater. They are not skills dependant on a great forward pack. Our spine is not so great as to determine Boyd excess.
I admit the 'next to useless' was me over-exaggerating, but I stand by the original sentiments.
So if you've got a shit pack better to have McDonnell than Boyd because a fullback is shit unless it's a good pack? It just ain't true.
Not really what I was trying to say. I am talking in the sense of priorities. I just think that, in our current 'spine' position (Gidley at fullback), Boyd is lesser a priority than forwards who aren't severely lacking.
I completely understand Gidley's faults and am even a harsh critic of him myself, however I'd hate to think the improvement of having Boyd at fullback opposed to Gidley at fullback is worth missing out on another quality forward.
Further, I would argue that if we had Boyd at fullback and Gidley at hooker rather than DeGois, our pack will be worse off.
Next to useless?
Pffffft....he's leading his generation.
Yeah, obviously I'm not the only one who's over-exaggerating... but I forgive you since I started it in the opposite direction.
