Which isn’t possible unless they tear it down and start again which will be well over 1 billion

should’ve been sold for apartments and allianz done at 60k

people prefer going to the city than homebush

the ideal would’ve been a ground in the cbd but with the light rail allianz does the job

homebush will always feel like a ghost town

For a city the size of Sydney, having our major stadium capped at 60 k just isn't enough.
We've proven dozens of times that we can easily sell out 80 k's. That should be the minimum at least.
Particularly for what would be the pre-eminent rectangular stadium in Oz.
I'd also be pushing for a Wembley sized (90 k's) sized stadium. 80 k min.
There are many rectangular examples around the world that we could build.

That’s great but at that size it’s almost inevitably going to look rubbish for club games. The best you could probably manage would be a 360 degree two tier layout where you could close off and darken the upper tiers when not needed, but it’ll still look cavernous.

There are multitudes more around the world. Especially in the USA.
For Oz not to have a decent large rectangular stadium in this country and in the country's most prominent rectangular sport city is an embarrassment.

The top two designs would work well. Relatively small bottom tiers so they could be packed out for smaller games.
Problem with a lot of the US stadiums is the lack of roof coverage, Americans seem to really like getting rained/snowed on!

I found Wembley and accor pretty similar

revenue lost with lower capacity would be made up with higher ticket sales

allianz is a better location than homebush and always will be

And homebush is ten mins from me

for an extra 300 million allianz could’ve been the perfect stadium at even 65k and no need for any money on homebush

even the best seats at accor are average

at accor you’re watching a lot of the game on the big screen

Luzhniki Stadium 81,000 -Russia world cup final venue
You could darken/cover the top tier for club games.

I always thought Millenium Stadium in Cardiff was ideal for Sydney:

Not sure it's wise to put a roof on a stadium that is already 24 years old.

More like a sh*t stadium that doesn't serve its purpose for 90% of the tenants and public that use it.

Should be torn down and a 65-85k rectangular roofed stadium should take its place.

Anything else and it's a waste of everyone's time and money, not to mention arrogance and an insult to the public. This is overwhelmingly a rectangular sports loving city. Government should stop fu*king us about and build what we want and deserve FFS!!!

I'd also like to see it torn down and built rectangular at 80k. You need a large venue to attract major events. Call it a necessary evil. But at the same time, the new stadium should be designed that includes "club mode" where the upper tiers are either closed off, darken, covered or any other innovation. And the stadium should built similar to the likes of Bernabeu, Allianz Arena etc.

Not sure its going to happen in the next couple of years though. However the SFS was demolished after 31 years. Accor is 24 years old.

Canterbury an Dragons are almost neighbours. They could get a bankwest type stadium built somewhere in between them both. An share it. Stuff the Sharks leave them behind.
They can't get crowds at Jubilee as it is. All the early years the Dragons Leagues club(Taj Mahal) was a money making bonanza ,one stand. They don't even own a ground at Kogarah.

In theory yes, but NRL seems determined to keep the poorly performing clubs afloat, even if it means diverting funds from other important areas to do so.
Well in that case, they in the past would have dropped the Warriors, Tigers,Titans and yes the Sharks.
Performance is based on many factors, competitiveness, crowds, facilities, ownership of said facilities, Tv ratings in the cap city they occupy and Tv ratings generally , merchandise sales , business sponsorship, social impact in their area, juniors. And that melad would encompass any new club.

I don’t think we can have a serious conversation about what the voters in nsw can expect from their elected government without a pom in Perth having the overarching and determinative view.
I wonder if a certain person had any criticism of the money wasted on GWS when they entered the AFL.First they were going to set up a base at Blacktown and do wonders for the community, they got NSW Govt largesse. Then they reneged and moved to Homebush area, got further dosh toward their stadium .Then one looks at their impact in the community with bigger crowds I've seen at BBQs, even when they are competitive the reaction in Sydney is "meh".
And no doubt the same gent will be expecting State Govt financial stadium assistance should his team be admitted.
What he seems to forget, NRL fans tend to be tax payers, unless we all live in Nimbin smoking the funny stuff and are committed vegans. They are consumers of products where the same State & Fed extract taxes.

Given that ‘stadia’ is the Latin plural for stadium (which is a neutral case noun as in neither male or female) I’d suggest it’s entirely appropriately used here. I think this site as a whole should revert to Latin ad finutum with a quid pro quo status in mind.
I think the whole stadium argument has turned cactus.Or should that read cacti, as there is more than one comment.

Yep age itself isn’t a problem, take a look at the history of that Real Madrid stadium, it’s 76 years old and has been expanded, reconfigured and had cover added over the years. Stadiums should have lifespans of 50+ years if they’re designed properly in the first place.
Accor’s problem is that it’s just fundamentally the wrong shape for the rectangular football codes. It’s too big and has a pretty shallow rake, and no amount of tinkering can fix that.
