Given the ugly side is always going to be the way the cameras point it’s always going to look a sht box sadly. Dont even now what they could do to get capacity to 25k now?

If you knocked down and rebuilt the main stand so it was the full length of the field and replaced the concourse on the eastern side with something with a steeper gradient you might be able to up the capacity a bit.

Its big issue is how much of its capacity is hill/standing area. Every few years health and safety laws get tighter (rightfully so) and the ground loses a few thousand more seats.

It’s pretty wild to think that they once squeezed 22,000 people in there for a game vs the Dragons. I was there last week and it was shoulder to shoulder with 12,000 in there. It’d be dangerous in an emergency as is, let alone with all those extras in there.

Whats capacity of that other side main stand at moment? Looking at it it looks like half size in terms of length of pitch?
Its a shame they couldn't build the pokie den up another floor and at least been able to add a decent rake stand along 3/4 of that side, joined it up with an end stand with full corners to join the other main stand. Totally compromised that side now. So yeh a big north stand and a decent sized east stand is all they can now do you'd think.

I think we’ve only ever played one game there, when the Brumbies had a Super Rugby grand final back when people really cared about Super Rugby.

Wasn’t great as I recall. I think we set the field up so it wasn’t in the middle of the ground, but as close to the fence on the broadcast side as possible, then only sold tickets on that side. Was a really weird setup.

But as far as locations for a venue, it leaves Bruce for dead.
I meant Raiders games. Warriors definitely played them there a few years back.

It’s a reflection on where super rugby is in Australia now

raiders don’t have any problems getting crowds at Bruce
Bruce shaves thousands off Raiders crowds as well.

All it'd take is a bit of bad luck and the Raiders could be struggling alongside the Brumbies.

Before Viking Park was developed the Canberra Kookaburra's and other ACT rep sides played RU out of Manuka. The Brumbies' thinking seems to be that it worked for those rep teams, so maybe it'll work for them as well.

The Brumbies are past the point where they should be considering doing something extreme like relocating or merging with another team if they want to save the club from folding. They would have relocated years ago if they were an American sports franchise.

I remember watching South Korea play the ACT at Manuka many years ago in a rah rah game. Major highlight was actually watching people eat cucumber sandwiches with a glass of Chardonnay at the ground. Crowd talked a lot while the players played.
Post match I dashed over to the afl club to watch the league. What a relief that was.
I also remember going to Seiffert to watch the raiders play saints. Wynn got binned and walked past me on his way to the grandstand. Very tall man.
I got very drunk on both occasions.

Raiders haven’t won a comp in 30 years

brumbies got the bandwagon when they were winning and super rugby was a thing. Now it’s not

if they made the top four they would avg over 20k imo

I was there with over 20000. Was fine. But it needs a major overhaul.

The Brumbies are the most successful Australian SR team, and arguably the most consistently successful professional team in Australian sport full stop, yet they're still dying on their arse. That's not to say that the stadium is totally responsible for that, but it is a contributing factor.

The Raiders didn't crack an average attendance over 20k when they made the top four in both 2016 and 2019, and relying solely on results on the pitch to move product is a terrible business plan. The Raiders could add 3-5k a season on average if they were playing out of a half decent stadium in a good location.

Getting marquee games surely would support a bid for a new stadium? An Anzac Day game on Anzac Day would be a bloody good start. We can but dream.

And yet the raiders average close to three times the brumbies so much that the brumbies are playing at Manuka

Canberra is back in rugby league hands the novelty of the brumbies has gone
