the article didn't have any costings. Do any stadium geeks have a guess of what something like this would cost. As the article mentions, Perry park really is a great location, would be great if could be a bit bigger

In UK you could build it for around $100-125mill. Here it'll likely cost $200-250mill construction only

Being pedantic, but I'd love to see photos of it taken at various times throughout a sunny day. Just so I can see when the shade will cover various parts of the stadium.

Looking at that, it's looking somewhat promising.

North Queensland Stadium on track as construction of seating begins

THE FIRST seating platforms in the North Queensland Stadium are taking shape as locals are promised every spot will have the best views in the house.

About 2000 prefabricated seating platforms will be manufactured for the stadium by local company Jackson Semler, and then fitted to large steel-rakers that form the skeleton of the venue.

There will be 25,000 seats fixed to the seating platforms ready for the 2020 NRL season.

Townsville City Council Mayor Jenny Hill said she was thrilled to see the progress being made.

“There won’t be a bad seat in the stadium,” she said.

“Importantly, the stadium has the capacity to be expanded by another 5000 seats if the demand for extra capacity is there.”

Townsville MP Scott Stewart said to date about 98.5 per cent of the 188,748 construction hours on the stadium had been completed by locals, which was above the 80 per cent target.

“With 38 out of the 46 trade packages awarded to date engaging local businesses, our commitment to have North Queenslanders build the stadium is being realised.”

Mr Stewart said he expected the high level of local industry participation to continue as the stadium moved toward peak construction, when up to 400 workers would be on site daily.

State Minister for Sport Mick de Brenni said the locally fabricated pre-case concrete seating platforms would transform the site.

“This venue is about to start looking distinctly like a world-class stadium under construction,” he said.

“It really is pleasing to see the project progressing on schedule with predominantly local workforce driving the activity.”

Federal Minister for Cities, Urban Infrastructure and Population Alan Tudge said the stadium would be enjoyed for generations to come.

“This milestone is a significant step closer as Townsville fans gear up ready to cheer on the Cowboys in the new North Queensland Stadium for the 2020 NRL season,” he said.

If there’s any chance of the Allianz redevelopment being modified it increased on the weekend with the liberals getting smashed in Wagga Wagga.

Still long odds though.

Hopefully if the ALP do win they disband the SCG trust, would be a good outcome for the clubs using the venue.

The Trust is established under the Sydney Cricket and Sports Ground Act of 1978. I don't know if the ALP would have the numbers in the Legislative Council to get the Act repealed. What it could do though is get rid of 13 of the 15 trustees though and appoint 13 new trustees. Under the Act 13 trustees are appointed by the Governor and 2 are elected from amongst the members of the SCG. The appointed trustees are appointed by the Governor for a4 year periods, but that can be revoked at anytime by the Governor. Hence it would be a simple administrative order for a new Government to get rid of a number of trustees should they so desire - especially when you consider not any of the current trustees is a dedicated rugby league person in anyway shape or form.

Basically it's what we all thought and feared would happen. We'll get a brand new Allianz and end up stuck with the same piece of shit ANZ stadium.

Hopefully rugby league rightfully abandons the stadium so everyone can see how stupid the situation is. We'll end up with a giant white elephant that no one wants to use and no high quality high capacity stadium in Sydney.

Fair points, but if there’s a really big swing there may be a chance labor can get cross bench support.

According to Phil Rothfield in the Sunday Telegraph there are members of the SCG Trust who have taken legal advice and are considering suing the SCG trust for loss of amenities during the upgrade. If this is true it just proves what a bunch of self entitled wankers they are.
