The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

Over and above what is there now?

I'm having to assume the NRL will make a few bob out of it too, otherwise they wouldn't be making their threats to move the GF.

Now I don't make a razoo out of it, and I'm being asked to contribute. I think it would be a better idea if those that do benefit from it, kick in.

It has been made plain, soccer requires rectangular stadiums for WCs.ATM ANZ doesn't fit the bill,in its current format I understand.

Are you serious, the SFS is currently a stadium with inadequate facilities for females, little cover from the elements.Hardly conducive for major events that either use the stands or the ground itself for seating.
Any tenant using stadiums wants to make a bob out off it.The very reason the Eels took a while to get a decent rental ,so they can do just that.

OK I am expected to pay my taxes toward motorways which I don't use, upkeep on the Opera House which I don't use, toward $224m Art Gallery extensions to which I don't use, tens of millions spent towards Spotless and the SCG which I don"t use,$100m pa maintenance for a desal plant that hasn't been used plus the original cost well over $500m, a light rail I don't use.None of which I make a razoo out of either.
Guess what ,I'm a member of society in this great city, and I've seen enough waste in the past for other things.I accept the fact, that the benefits are for the use of a damn side more people, than just lil ole me.

To me upgraded or new stadiums like any great city, form part and parcel of a city's function.

We are the biggest city also commercial wise in the country, yet have the poorest stadium facilities.

NB the ones that use the new facilities will be kicking in, by the costs of attending a modern stadium.More than one football code using it,3 in fact.

People demand modern comfort in the 21st Century.
If the State Govt didn't have the money to do so,I would agree leave the stadiums as is, and let the other states lap up the profits and the visitors.
Hell the Vic and Qld Govt's see the tourism benefit of SOO and G/F in their cities, and are prepared to pay to do so.

All modern major city stadiums need a roof

Even Robina and Suncorp need a roof due to the heat

I dont like the new SFS design due to this issue

19 years after the Olympics they took down the temporary stands so they could put on a roof, which never came even though the arch's are roof ready

But only being able to hold two events on any given weekend is a big turn off for event bookings as they kill of the on field grass

The SFS and Homebush should include a option for small secondary field for warmups and lower grades if too wet

THE NSWRL H/O is or soon will be at Homebush ,with its own field for training and warm ups and a tunnel to ANZ,which is nearby.

The prototype design of the new SFS has no roof.

It's as you say a prototype, not the final one.
If they finally decide to have next to no cover, they are deluded.Just plain dumb.
I got friggin drenched at the SFS when they staged on of the first SOO's there. In one of the best seats.

If it were me .I'd rip the SFS down and build a WS Stadium type one.30,000 all up.With cover.

Stop press.

According to channel 9, on 12th October 18 the final design shows "the roof will be made of light weight material and cover EVERY SEAT in the stadium."

I assume its the pitch over the road at the southern end

Artifical turf and no spectator facilities not sure a lower grade game could be transfered or played

At least they can do warm ups

how the f**k does my backward ass hillbilly state have far better RL stadiums than the home of RL. Sydney is a global city FFS, start acting like it. You got 11 years of free GF’s at the SFS which was built by donated monies. The NRL have to stand firm on this shit, the only compromise should be if allianz is more of a WSS style.

ANZ there should be a absolutley no compromise on its refurb. They’ve already compromised on it once with this current GF deal. Remember, the game has agreed to host the GF for 3-4 years at an absolute shit box in the SCG, that was a massive downside to all of this. This should not be lost on Labor if they win the state election.

Why transfer a lower grade game three. The new WS Stadium will have more than its share of wear and tear this year with WSW.EEls,Tigers etc.

Except when you look at the design that won the competition, the roof angles down and even if the rain falls directly down there will still be uncovered seats right down the front. If the stadium HAS to be 45k, it should have at least a fully enclosed roof to make going there a better situation all around rather than just more toilets for women.
If they take it down to 35 then the roof will be fine i suppose.
Its also f**king ugly. But hey, guess they are taking inspiration from the original SFS.

Agreed, Optus stadium is magnificent, a great looking addition to the city landscape and a long overdue upgrade for WA sports and concert fans. These type of infrastructure programs are what make cities more liveable.

Because around July these big stadiums have a track record of cancelling lower grade games if it rains heavy especially if a event like the RU Bledislou Cup is being played

As a fan is very frustrating to fight through traffic or plan days or afternoons off only to see the pre game cancelled

At least at places like AAMI in Melbourne or Wollongong they can play it across the road

Actually it doesn't. It has one that holds 30,000 less than ANZ and that's it. The Townsville one isn't built yet but from what I hear the one still in use is pretty average. Unless there's this beaut stadium at Ipswich or Redcliffe that no-one outside those places knows about. The one the Titans took their game to last year at Gladstone was pretty sad.

The home of RL?

What basis do you have to say that in 2050 SFS would be any less acceptable than it is in 2019?
It would have reached its use-by date by then. Replacing stadiums every 30 years is appalling use of taxpayer money. If private business pays for it, well and good, but it doesn't. Town Hall station is still waiting to be replaced and its been there since 1932.

I got drenched at the 1990 major semi final when the ground was just two years old. Couldn't have cared less. Maybe the Origin game was a bit on the boring side. Or maybe we are getting soft.
