I shouldn't have to ask this but I assume those junior sporting clubs are RL clubs? I would hate to think that Panther's leagues club are handing out grants to AFL or RU clubs just because they are in the Penrith area.

Most LC support a range of Jnr sports. Bulk would be RL programs but many fund other sports as well, especially netball, basketball etc..

Its actually a tiny amount of funding compared to revenue. eg Bulldogs $85mill revenue, Jnr grants around $300k. Panthers donated about $200k to Jnr RL on $133mill revenue (neither include what the NRL club spends on Jnr programs which also comes from the LC to the NRL club via the grants paid (LC to NRL club grants 2017 - $5.9million from Panthers, $4.9million Bulldogs)) Panthers do give most to community grants Around $1.8million last year)

Heres the other sports Panthers donated to last year
i-FLY Australian Indoor Skydiving Championships $1,000
Nepean Ducks - Gridiron $3,500
Nepean Tennis - Tennis in Schools program $5,000
Panthers Cricket Club $15,000 Panthers Fishing Club $10,000
Panthers Snooker $13,000 Panthers Snooker Club $4,076
Penrith Baseball Club $17,500
Penrith District Netball $25,000
Penrith Social Cricket Club $11,500

plus some others in other regions of their LC operations.

And yes they did give to jnr AFL! Shame on them!!
Port Macquarie Magpies Jnr AFL Club $800

Dunno about other winter sports, but why shouldn't a local club sponsor local sides regardless of code? Just because it's a leagues club doesn't mean it shouldn't give to the local community.

I'd say because it is a league's club attached to a rugby league club and because AFL (and other sports) are responsible for funding their own grass roots. I would imagine AFL social clubs hand out $0 in grants to rugby league clubs in Melbourne.

Thanks for the info - that is pretty f#@ked moreso about the AFL club. It is not a RL club's job or duty to fund an AFL club in Sydney.

Interestingly it is not in their companies mandate or mission to fund anything other than Rugby league, I guess many do it as its good publicity and helps counterbalance the negativity of all that money flowing from pokies which we know are a major negative community impactor.

That's just classic insular RL fan rubbish.

I basically don't understand the existence of AFL but if I ran a club and a team came to me for sponsorship, and that sponsorship benefited the business, guess what? That's the only concern.

Anyway like you said, there would likely be little need or desire for Panthers to sponsor any AFL clubs or RU clubs in anything like the capacity they do for Penrith Cricket Club. But as a local business they can and should sponsor whoever they see fit.

We give a few thousand to other sports in the area yes. But in contrast we invest five million every year into rugby league junior development. The gulf in relevance between rugby league and other sports here is enormous as it is without the massive gap funding. We're the only professional club in the area and that may change in the near future with the aleague potentially wanting to capitalise on the booming Penrith area and its potential new stadium in the next few years.

But regardless, our funding of other sports is taking the piss more than anything.

So just got tickets to Parra vs St George at Bankwest next week. Where would a good place be to park, or am I better off catching the train with my 3 kids under 10 in tow?

They should definitely take at least one of them to Suncorp. It appears to me the NSW govt has broken the deal to start construction at the end of this year.

If I was the NRL I’d say to them if construction is complete by October 2021, then the GF will be in Sydney. If not we’re taking it on the road.

There was a report saying it could be done in 20 months, the above timeline would give them 19 months presuming construction started in March 2020.
Construction is not starting at the end of this year!

I know.

I’m saying they’ve broken the deal as the agreement was to start construction at the end of this season.
Sorry mate, I read it a different way lol, my mistake. It is probably because I've been arguing that point on another forum. Reading your post again, i have no idea how I didn't get that.

Catch the train, parking at Parra leagues will be closed or full early.

Or you could park in Secure parking. About a 10m walk.

Not sure where you get the $5mill from? Surely the nrl panthers are only paying for the hm and Sg ball set ups? Panthers on the prowl and grants to jnr clubs in regions comes from LC and is around $200-300k a year according to the books.

Maybe my mind is making it up but I'm quite positive there was a SMH article(definitely not daily telegraph as they'd rather make articles saying Gus Gould is fine with women being raped all because he said he doesn't like supercoach) that mentioned Penrith breaking their junior record and there was a part of it that listed a five million dollar yearly investment.

Probably just another media myth. They give around $5million a year to the nrl club, not jnr rl.

Is there any oppprtunity at panthers stadium to incorporate some development into new stands? Seem spanthers have some massive diversified developments going on, Maybe the stadium improvements could form part of some future developments?

The football club invests 5m in junior development. This is over and above the grants to junior clubs from the leagues club.

The ground is owned by the Council not the club. The club can invest but it doesn’t get any real return.

Isn't that what some super league clubs are doing apparently. Interesting concept but there are issues with the hills(cricket oval, road) that makes expansion in the form of additional development tricky.

Less than a quarter of the stadium is under cover, the western grandstand is older than old Parramatta was, corporates are very isolated as there's really only one good box at the place, etc.

Better off just rebuilding the whole thing than slight developments here and there as those things will have to be fixed sooner rather than later anyway.

Why rebuild Penrith when you can spend billions on three grounds in spitting distance of each other?
Because those other three grounds have eight tenants (Roosters, Bulldogs, Rabbits, Tigers, Eels, Sydney FC, Wanderers, Waratahs) based within spitting distance all committed to use the respective venues and Penrith has only one committed tenant with no one else based within a ballistic golly. Oh, you were asking why, not why not? Sorry, can’t answer that mystery.

Leigh.

The federal seat of Lindsay, centred on Penrith-St Marys, is held with a margin of 1%. It is one of the closest in Australia and a bellweather seat since it was created, except for 2016. The party that wins Lindsay, wins Government. So if Panthers Stadium can't get some money for an upgrade under those circumstances, I don't like the chances of it happening in my lifetime.
