WA govt is desperate to get magic round. They'd pay $10mill for it I reckon like they have done Origin.

As if anyone would fly 4 hours to watch eight games of rugby league on an oval stadium. Magic round works in Brisbane because it's a heartland state

you're not going to get 30K people travel to a magic round in Perth , the flights would be double the cost to Brisbane

can't have both ,
its either venues in the burbs up to an acceptable standard with the GF as the trade off to get them to that level

or
shitholes & the GF on the road

I'd prefer option A
Your never going to get all the stadiums in the burbs upgraded to a modern standard anyway

the outer west needs a stadium then that's Sydney's "3 city model" for the future covered
the Sydney clubs can then choose whether they want to base out of the nearest modern stadium or stay in a glorified dog park, that's on them

Meanwhile the NRL should be doing what's best for the NRL nationally, expansion and growth of grassroots, and money generated from selling off the GF would help with this a lot

this isn't really the NRLs problem though is it, tourism is the benefit of the state government, if they are willing to pay your opinions if people will travel mean jack shit, a ticket sale is a ticket sale

AFL fans make up numbers about what Queensland pays for Magic Round. They've made up the figure of $2 million per year.

Just the ticket: How deal to bring rugby league to Qld put Labor in box seat

The Palaszczuk Government will not disclose how much it paid to secure top rugby league games but has revealed the perks that came with it.

While there has been speculation of millions of dollars in taxpayer-funded incentives, for Queensland to host games that promised flow-on benefits for local economies, the government has refused to reveal how much it cost to bring more games to the state.

The Liberal National Party used a question on notice to ask how much it cost the government to get the first State of Origin game moved from Melbourne to Townsville this year.

The government, which had also rebuffed questions from journalists, answered that it was “commercial-in-confidence and amounts cannot be disclosed to protect the interests of the State and partners, and to ensure Queensland’s competitiveness with other state and international event and tourism destinations”.

you'd lose the difference in ticket sales to Brisbane & it'd be played in a half empty stadium as opposed to full houses so a bad look

dumb idea
It stays in the heartland

Labour gov has made it quite clear 800 mill isnt happening

couple mil maybe for some pigs lipstick and they'll still be shit venues

if the NRL could snag a part ownership or cheaper deal on rent for these stadiums then its a better deal but all it is now is convincing the state government to fix up its own assets then awarding them with the GF

in your opinion*

Optus has a higher capacity than Suncorp

lets see how the double header goes this year before making any crowd assumptions

a mix of Sydneysiders being lazy and the PT system and roads being shit

fix the latter with some decent urban planning and a central stadium in each of these 3 is more enticing

as for the former make it an event worth getting of a couch for and the mindset will slowly change

The SA Government paid $8 million for origin in 2020. What are they paying this year?

What did Queensland pay for AFL Origin? Scratch that...

What is Queensland paying for Magic Round in 2023?

It hasn't been made public.. I think the NRL would be happy it hasn't been as no way it's near $25m
