Future NRL Stadiums

the article makes some sense.
Homebush is in the middle of nowhere, and isolated on public transport.

A city mega-stadium would be the theoretical ideal seeing as anyone from practically anywhere can get one train or one bus and make it into the city circle compared to 1-3 to get into homebush.

With that being said moore park isn't the ideal, you'd preferrably want the mega stadium to sit closer to central or redfern to encourage public transport.

ANZ is located in a terrible spot which isn't going to get better.
I think its best to accept that now and push for consolidation in the 2 big CBDs and slowly try and lessen our dependency on the stadium.

To be honest it's a bit of both.... The venue is definately a huge problem, but while the location is central for a lot of people there is nothing to do there before and after. Sure you can go to the brewery for some mid strength beers and get a feed at maccas, but what else is there?

It's not like the SFS where there is 100 pubs where you can buy full strength in a glass in walking distance. I can get mates to go to a game at the sfs but can't at homebush.

But good on Smith for realising it's a problem we need to get right. #codeincrisis

stuff will get built around ANZ as part of this 350 mil redevelopment. Build a shopping centre, a few pubs and restaurants and people will be coming there regardless of the footy.

Raze ANZ to the ground. Build a state of the art 80-100k purpose built for rectangular sports only field.
Improve the transport issues starting with a through line, a light rail around the Olympic precint to access other venues and car parks more easily, build light rail links North and South. Improve the amenities in and around the area in terms of dining and entertainment.

Too easy. Just needs zillions of dollars.

The 350 mil proposal is a waste of money. Will turn a turd into a rectangular roofed turd.

I don't understand why Sydney stadiums are so hard to get to? In brisbane you can get to suncorp easily from the outer most suburbs, logan, Ipswich, Gold Coast. It's right outside the train station, on game days extra trains and busses run. Melbourne is the same as Brisbane. Why does Sydney find it so hard to get its shit together.

There is a train station outside ANZ Stadium and on major event days, these trains are direct from Central and Blacktown.
Its not as hard as people make it out to be.

It's currently a turd.
If you roof it and reshape it, it becomes a roofed rectangular turd.
Glad to help.

Seriously though, it doesn't address the fact that the original 'shallow bowl' shape makes it a piss poor viewing spectacle from the bleachers. It is an inefficient design for our game.
See Suncorp for the way to do it properly. ANZ, refurbished for as much as they want, can never be that now unless it is completely gutted.

There not but the concpet of a 45min plus trip on something that doesnt pick you up outside your front door and drop you off in the aisle where your seat is seems just too much hard work for some Sydney folk.

RL fans in Sydney should be ashamed some hybrid nonsense pointless game in Perth can draw a near sell out crowd whilst the mighty Kangaroos struggle to get 20k to their games.

Its a convenience but people are still going to have to make their way into a cbd before they can get transport to the stadium.

As opposed to other places which have their stadiums and CBDs pretty much on top of each other.

Surely a more convenient solution would be to have stadiums in the 2 big CBDs.
Relegate ANZ to a wembley sort of role and then abandon it once we can get a comparable sized stadium elsewhere.
The only team conveniently close to ANZ atm are the Bulldogs, and even for them its still a travel.

l.
Of course if you live in the Eastern Suburbs, but why would you end up in the CBD if you live in the West?

Is allianz that much more of a walk from Sydney cbd than Suncorp from Brisbanes? Having done both it doesnt feel like it.

not allianz, ANZ

Allianz is only a 10 minutes walk usually at most

ANZ has a train station to the front door, whats the problem?

Allianz is no more of a walk from cbd than AAMi, suncorp or nib. ANZ has a train station to it and plenty of parking. End of day you can always find excuses to not go to a game if you really want to. Comes down to commitment to watch live sport and follow your team.

Still say the best solution for Sydney is:

Allianz: weekly blockbuster Sydney derby Friday night adult orientated event
ANZ; weekly blockbuster Sunday afternoon family orientated event
New West stadium (around 35k) or redeveloped Parra stadium for other games featuring Sth's, Wests, Eels and Bulldogs on a Saturday or Sunday evening
Penrith, Sharks, St's and Manly to stay where they are until reality forces them into some tough decisions

It has a train station, but its in the middle of nowhere.
Its on a train line which is a pain in the ass to manouvre, not on any of the major lines.

Its not like the MCG within spitting distance of 7 or so of the teams and actually inside the city.
ANZ is at least 15 minutes from the nearest CBD (Parra), 15-20 from the dogs territory.
It just dosen't fit.

And if we're talking about consolidation these stadiums really should fit the teams, and with ANZ we have a stadium that no-one wants.

If we're thinking long term here perhaps a better investment than consolidating around a shit ground would be to abandon it and try and rely as little as possible on it.
Parramatta + the City are our two best options to consolidate imo.
A built up allianz could attract at least 2 NRL teams, maybe 3 or 4 if the Dragons and Manly are interested in shipping a few games.
A built up Parramatta would be less appealing, but would have a better time of trying to convince the Tigers and Panthers down for big games.
The Dogs would probably prefer ANZ for the mean while, equally far away from parra as ANZ and the rivalry between the two teams would be a major hazard to them moving in together.
The Sharks own their stadium, they can do what they like.

That's the ideal scenario.
Whether the government or the NRL are willing to shell out for it to happen is another question
