The Townsville street circuit is close by. Perhaps they could extend the track to the venue and have double sided undercover stadium? One for the football the other side for the race? Instead of running the track west of reid park, have it run east and get rid of the 'street' circuit and make it a real track. Could get even more use out of the development and another incentive to get it up and running.

Locals please advise if this is not possible as I have never been to T'ville but it seems like it could be done

Theres been a bit of talk in soccer ranks recently that Lowy will push ahead with a Western Sydney A League club in 10 months to replace Gold Coast.

The interesting thing is that they will use Parra Stadium for all but 3 matches which will be at ANZ.

Will this help the stadium trust/Eels secure federal funding for redevelopment?

Parramatta Stadium Business Case

APP helps re-develop Parramatta Stadium into a vibrant, community-based multi-purpose facility
Parramatta Stadium is a major sporting facility and community-based asset within the Parramatta area, and in recent times, the Stadium has been used for an increasing number of community events. To capture this increasing demand, , the Parramatta Stadium Trust, the trustees of the Stadium, needed expertise to develop a Master Plan and to prepare a business case and financial projections in support of the re-development proposal.

APP was engaged to build the business case for the re-development proposal as defined in the Master Plan. The preferred option was recommended to the Trust as measured against the strategic and operational outcomes wanted by the stakeholders, and costed at $39.6m. With funding secured, it is expected that the Stadium changes will be completed by March 2014.

APP was involved in the development of two key supporting documents in accordance with the NSW Government Gateway Review System. The Strategic Review (“Needs Analysis”) assessed whether the proposal aligned with the Government’s plans, and whether the current proposal met the “best value” test.

The second document was the Business Case (“Funding Approval”) which tested the preferred option against a 7-point selection criteria, as well as the underlying value proposition and the veracity of the business outcomes. APP also prepared an economic appraisal and impact assessment study.

Parramatta Stadium Master Plan
In 2010 the Board of Trustees commissioned a review of the existing Master Plan and planned development of the stadium.
Hassell architects undertook the work and provided a comprehensive concept master plan that takes into account the landscape of the precinct and the park setting, for a ‘boutique stadium in the park’.
The Board has approved the plan and has proceeded with engaging stakeholders in the process to formalising a business case for the development.
The essence of the development will provide the following:\
  • Utilisation of the existing grandstand structures
  • Installation of a 500 seat function event space
  • Completion of corporate suites in the Eastern Grandstand – 1,100 extra corporate seating including 500 seat function room.
  • Expansion of players facilities – 2 x gymnasiums and 4 x change rooms
  • Public capacity increased to 31,300 seats
  • Landscape of the precinct, defined entrances at North East and South East corners and vastly improved pedestrian access from the Parramatta CBD
The Master Plan can be staged, and an estimated cost of the completion of the plan is $98 Million, with the first stage of developing the East and West Grandstands having an estimated cost of approximately $34 Million.

What does all that mean? Do we get two new huge end grandstands?

It means the IC need to throw in some $$$ to take it to 40k capacity and change the name from Parramatta. Then let the Western Sydney teasm play out of it. f**k ANZ.

I think another question is, will you be able to see the bloody big screen, or will they have one that nearly nobody in the ground can see.

Update on a future NRL stadium! nib redevelopment commences with a $95.1mill Phase one upgrade starting in July of this year and due for completion March 2013. This will see a Newcastle style new East stand built with massive new corproate facilities and fans seating, relaying of pitch with new drainage and improved turf to deal with 3 codes useage, 3 new changing rooms so each home team can have their own dedicated ones, permenant large screens, new bus terminal to improve public transport to the ground etc.

Here's some old video of the announcement from a while ago.

I fail to see how a large (30K+) parra stadium solves any problems.

-2km walk from nearest station
-Parking mostly on local streets.
-As a solution to western sydney stadium rationalisation it doesn't make sense at all. Do we really expect the bulldogs and wests tigers in particular to swallow local pride and use parra as a stadium?
-Still the perceived distance from areas like Campbelltown and Penrith. Lets be honest rugby league fans have shown themselves capable of using any excuse to not attend matches.

At best it would ust be awesome for Parra. But given they average 14-16k at Parra stadium of late, i don't think they are worrying capacity enough to warrant a massive boost in it.

On a side note, Hunter stadium desperately needs a new and larger screen, preferably one at both ends. The current one on the southern hill is tiny, hard to see from the other end and poor picture quality at that.

seriously how is that an issue

Not an issue for me. But look at the moaning that goes on about getting to various stadia in sydney. Its a 10 minute walk to the sfs from central and people moan, they get buses laid on for a few dollars and people moan.

No doubt when the light rail is built to the sfs, people will continue to moan.

Walking to the ground is fine IMO, helps pump you up for the upcoming match when in a large throng of people off to the footy

It is an issue. Wake up, just because you don't agree doesn't mean that other people don't see it as a turn off.

Like I have said for many a year, if the ground isn't within 500 metres of the train station then crowds will always stay inconsistent and never be built on.

It is what it is and it needs to be addressed.

I see what you're saying and i realize people will bitch and moan about having to walk but it shouldn't have a major impact on crowds

Are there any updates around about what is happening at Wollongong with the roof, and when Saints are likely to be able to get back there?

Cheers, Suity
