Future NRL Stadiums

Why do people still carry on about the number of supporters turning up at grounds being so important? I thought it was pretty clear it is all about TV ratings these days, not how many go to the footy.

Anyway, I reckon a Perth side would rate well and a second Brisbane side is a no Brainer for the same reason.
You really need to ask?

The NRL and AFL have roughly the same tv rights income now. And yet the AFL will still make a shitload more money over the next 5 years than the NRL will.

6 million in crowds compared to 3 million. 700k members compared to 200k members. That adds up to hundreds of millions of dollars over 5 years.

If you don't see the financial value in increasing memberships and especially crowds you're an idiot.

A large crowd can create a good atmosphere sometimes. But I don't see the big deal, sometimes it's more comfortable and convenient to watch a game on TV.

How is a second Brisbane side a no-brainer for ratings reasons?!?

Brisbanites are already watching league. A second team there will not open up a new ratings market like a team in Perth would.

You are assuming that the League market is 100% saturated at the moment though, the rivalry will drive ratings even higher and Brisbane get 1 game of league a week to watch live at the ground instead of every fortnight.

40% is about right as 1/2 the people I know in Brisbane don't support them, however as most people on this forum see it, most of the non-Broncos supporters in Brisbane don't support the Bombers either. Western Corridor would go well to get 25-30K at Suncorp until they build a new stadium in Springfield, which will probably only be a 25-30K stadium. The other thought is reviving an old BRL team like the Diehards or Brothers (there's an argument either way about this and how supported it'd be) or even a combined BRL United team however that could probably get 30-35K at Suncorp based on its past history.

Whatever happened to the idea of the Redcliffe Dolphins entering the NRL one day?

That might be a good question for the Gold Coast Dolph... errrr Titans to answer.

I know they had ideas to come in, however if Manly ever made the move to the Sunny Coast like many people have said or Brisbane gets another team it'd be difficult for them to enter

I had heard that the Titans wanted to call themselves the Dolphins (what with Sea World there and everything it would have been perfect) but Redcliffe threatened to sue them because they wanted to use the Dolphins name in the NRL at some point.

I reckon Manly should join forces with Redcliffe, move up and be done with it.

The mascot draws itself really.

Ladies and Gents, I'd like to unveil the logo for your inaugral Redcliffe "Eaglephins"

Redcliffe coming in would be wrong IMO. Brisbane people still have their loyalties to their local club teams. An Easts, or Wynum Manly supporter is not going to see Redcliffe play even if they are in the NRL.

Imagine if years ago, the Brisbane comp was bigger than the sydney comp, and eventually a Sydney team was entered into the Brisbane comp. Could you imagine a South Sydney supporter getting behind the roosters if they were the team to represent Sydney?

A Second Brisbane team would have to be a 'cleanskin', a new identity with no baggage to try and attract as many supporters as possible.

They were going to be the Dolphins but with an orange and green/teal colours.

Whilst the Dolphin name would've suited the area better the colours more than make up for it.

Besides, who's to say the next GC incarnation won't use the name Dolphins?

Yes but how do you split the city territorially between the Broncos and a new team?

Are you sure you're not thinking of the Miami Dolphins.
