Future NRL Stadiums

Penrith absolutely should NOT get a 40k seat stadium. FFS they can barely crack 12k most weekends themselves, and there are literally no other sides that would possibly play there from any code (although I'm sure the Giants would play a game there in front of 4000).

Hosting rock concerts? I wouldn't drive to Penrith for a concert if you paid me in blow jobs.

Parramatta is the only site worthy of such a stadium. Relatively central so other clubs could also play there, and on top of which the 2 current residents could conceivably fill it or at least draw 30K+ for blockbuster games providing they were in form.

Will it make anz any better for club games? No. Anz is only option for SOO and GF so no competition there. Seems like a waste of money to spend that on anz.

I'm always sceptical whenever governments and councils come up with grandiose plans and then say that they will be looking for private partners to pay for it. Never happens.

Penrith won't get that stadium , but neither should parra.

You can't seriously expect other clubs to move their home games to a territory with an established team & leagues club.

It needs to be neutral in order to attract the most tenants.

Phil Gould = "Pie in the Sky".

No f**king chance of happening. 40 000 upgrade for one team? Wanderers won't move there. Eels won't. Tigers won't.
It's a f**king dream and a waste of the clubs money for architects wanking designs.

That's not a stadium it is four grandstands.

I f*cken hate stadiums with roofs. Footy is to be played outside in the rain if it's raining and in the sun if it's sunny.

Guess it's fair enough in a place like Dunedin which is a miserable place, but here in Sydney it's not needed.

Like Souths moving to to the Parramatta suburb of Homebush .... :sarcasm:

No more stadiums on the M4 corridor - it's full. And we don't need a multi purpose stadium we just need a 40,000 rectangle stadium.

The only area worth considering is in S/W Sydney near Liverpool (ish)

Tend to agree, fully enclosed stadiums should only be in areas where the climate justifies it. The grandstands should be fully covered as a bare minimum for new stadia though. Steeper stands would also mean shorter rooflines.

Once this is completed, there should be no reason for 40-50 plus to turn up to see 2 Sydney top 8 teams do battle during the season

No one team does. Any new stadium that size would have to have be guaranteed the biggest 24 NRL regular season games from between 3 or 4 teams, and specifically their local and Sydney derby games. It would probably need to host at least 8 A-League games too. As such it needs to be easily accessible to the fan bases of all those teams and at least viable to attend from most of the rest of Sydney. Central to public transport is an absolute must.

Agreed, the biggest problem with ANZ is that it's a terrible ground for atmosphere in a terrible location. I hate going there, would much rather watch a game at a smaller ground.

Yes it will. The seats behind the posts (category zz or whatever) are miles away. Did you watch the charity shield and notice that there was a soundwave stage in that space? Move them closer and it improves the viewing experience AND the atmosphere.

For those who dont think ANZ should have the money spent on it, have you seen the list of events they are having there this year?

Big Bash Cricket
International t20
NRL Club fixtures + Charity Shield
2x State of Origin **
NRL Grand Final and Finals series **
2 x socceroos World Cup Qualifiers **
2 x Sydney Swans/GWS matches
Bledisloe Cup Test **
British Lions tour test **
Soundwave/Aerosmith/Van Halen and other concerts **

**Likely to be sell outs.

Thats huge by anyones standards and the stadium is well behind the leading stadiums in the world in terms of facilities.

ANZ is a big event stadium, it is fine for that, it is designed for that. Putting a roof on it and moving a small % of the seats a few metres forwards will not make it a high quality viewing experience nor a great atmosphere stadium for club games.

Spend the $250mill building a 35-40k Western Sydney rectangular stadium and what was going to be spent doing up parra (if that was the plan) spend on the outlying clubs that have little choice of playing at a centralised stadium, like Manly, Illawarra and Cronulla.

That way you have:
Decent SFS for Eastern clubs (Roosters, Sth's and St's)
Decent Western Sydney RL stadium for Western clubs (Panthers, Bulldogs, Tigers and Eels)
Much improved stadia for outlying clubs (St's in Illawarra, Sharks and SeaEagles)
and ANZ for big events as is.

The NSW Govt needs to accpet the fact that ANZ is poor for club games and stop trying to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.

Seems logical to me.

You do realise that they are not doing this solely with NRL club games in mind? ANZ is lobbying for the money so that they can offer the best arrangement for their large range of events and this move seems to be about further freezing out Allianz, who are their competition. They dont care about NRL club games. IN FACT. The NRL club games are promoted as a "free bonus" for those who purchase corporate boxes for the year. There is no money in those games for ANZ stadium.

ANZ Should return to its 110,000 configuration with moveable north and south lower stands

We have 5 competing groups for a 40,000 stadium

Parramatta
- pros - used by Wanderers and Eels. Good transport hub
- cons - proximity to ANZ and both can use ANZ for larger crowds

Black town
- pros - central to western Sydney and future city population growth. Good transport
- cons - its a oval at the moment and only used by AFL at the moment

Penrith
- pros - home ground of panthers
- cons - too far west. Crowds don't warrant 40,000 and I would expect Panthers to fund the growth

Campbelltown
- pros - Wests home ground good transport and freeway access
- cons - would need Tigers to fully relocate. Wanderers might not want to relocate

I would favour Black town or Campbelltown

It's like an ugly chick putting make up on, waste of money.

Could be better spent elsewhere.

And whinging about it is like screaming at the wind. Unless they pull it down, it's going to continue to get money.
