Thanks to the bowlers, his keeping wasn't that great.

His batting has been Number 10 worthy for a very long time.

This time last year he made 160 odd

All quality batsmen like Taylor, Chappell and Tugga went through a lean trott just like Hads

Cream always rises to the top.

Mitch is one of the cleanest hitters of the ball I've seen, I was disappointed he didn't kick on with more hundreds after that 123*

Hopefully today

Not sure if there's anyone to replace him, but a year is a long time in Test cricket when you're 37

You're an idiot. @8Ball.

Nope. Same logic. Johnson was laughed at for his inclusion last summer. Two great series and now 2 average tests. No doubt the same armchair critics will be calling for him to be dropped if he doesn't perform with the ball for 4 or 5 more tests.

Haddin is still keeping well, and is clearly an important senior figure in the side. If there was a clear replacement, I wouldn't be against dropping him, but there isn't.

very true,

jokes aside he should be doing better with the bat, we got a few decent replacements but you gotta remember we just got a new skipper and Clarkie and Siddle are gone so making even more changes is not something we normally do, plus the fact that he is vice captain and we need some experience so I think his spot is safe for a while

same could be said for Watson and Rogers, I dont think we will make too many more unforced changes unless someone makes a run of ducks

He's 37. Do we persist with him batting like a number 11 and hope he comes good at 38-39 years old?

Not to mention that those players are all time greats, and Haddin has been a run of the mill keeper with one extraordinary series to his name.

lol a very long time?

held us together last summer

Since his last summer he has managed 91 runs in 12 innings, a couple of not outs and an average of 9.1. Even if he was in the class (which he isn't) he's also 37 years old, they don't generally come back to their peak at that point.

Before last summers, in the 6 tests he played between India and England he only hit 257 runs in 12 innings @23.5 or so.

And even though Wade proved to be pretty poor in an extended run it was the completely correct call to drop Haddin when he was. The last twelve tests before he got dropped he only hit two fifties in 19 innings and averaged under 23, and his keeping was abysmal.

All up in has last 30 tests he's only averaged 26.7 with the bat and his keeping has never been better than average. He had a fantastic Ashes in Australia last year but that 493 runs @ 61 amounts to something like 40% of the runs he's scored in the last 4 years. It was some series, but the only one good that he's had.

I would say if it wasn't for Clarkes dodgy hamstrings and back he's already be out the door.

His keeping is fine. His batting is a worry though.

But no way will he be dropped with Clarke injured, nor should he. His experience will be invaluable to Smith. He may well give it away though

There was a time when Ishant could bowl 150+,same with Siddle

How do these merkins lose so much pace? injuries?

Get off the sauce. It's very rare a bowler gets into that bracket. Even Notch last year was only touching 150 and same goes for Steyn or Edwards and Best from the Windies. In the last 10 years only Lee, Shoab and Tait have gone past 150kms at only very short periods of their careers.

Because he got dropped by Tassie last Shield round.

The problem with dropping Haddin is who will you replace him with. There is no keeper scoring a mountain of runs in Shield cricket so why drop Haddin?
