Game of Thrones VIII

Really weak final season.... It was rushed and all tied up far too neatly. Just not what the first 6 or so seasons were about. The night king and undead army ended up being pretty insignificant. Bran ending up as the king just doesn't fit with his character at all. He is like some kind of mystical wizard, not a f**king ruler. I was expecting Drogon to come back and find Jon at the end, nup. Him being a Targaryen eventuated into nothing. Didn't even get to see Dany turn against him. Almost depressingly boring and somber last episode.

The blue eyes stuff with Melisandre was retconned, but I'm not sure this is
Generally, I think where all the characters end up in the show is where they end up in the books

Here's hoping the books get them there more satisfactorily

I have a feeling that when they say "GRRM gave the producers the outline of how it ends" he probably didn't give much more than dany turning bad, jon killing her and bran becoming king so I see those 3 characters getting to the same place in the books albeit in a much better and more satisfactory way.

I'm not convinced all the others will end up in the same place in the books. I certainly can't imagine GRRM not having much bigger and better plans for Jaimie/cersei

I think overall season 7 did the most damage. Could have got rid of almost everything and expanded what was in season 8 to make sense.

Yet check out the ratings and reviews for it. Any issues it had were mostly ignored because fans got to see some character meet ups they'd been dying for. Probably guilty of that myself.

They didn't do the greatest job of communicating it because everything was rushed, but Jon's potential for rallying half the realm behind him, and Sansa and Tyrion conspiring on his behalf, was a major reason behind Dany's shock and awe campaign and eventual fall.

You give D&D too much credit
They said she went mad when she saw the red keep, a symbol of what was taken from her and what her family built

I think they mentioned Jon being part of that, but it was brief.

Good ending all things considered.

The mid season, eps 3 and 4 specifically, collapsed under the weight of all the plot pieces that had to be ruthlessly shoved into place.

But I'm happy with 5-6, for me it's somewhat redeemed itself.

For me, ep 3 wasn't bad on its own
It just needed to be a whole season rather than one episode, and I mean a 10 episode season

That would give the NK threat the justice it deserved.

I mentioned this earlier I think but it's 100% correct!

Season 8 (based around the Winds of Winter) - Night King
Season 9 (based around a Dream of Spring) - Cersei, Kings Landing and the Ending

We basically got what should have been 20 episodes condensed into 6

Speaking of ratings. Here's two popular Season 8 ratings from IMDB/Rotten Tomatoes. Ep6 probably still has a bunch to come in mind you.

So Ep1/Ep2 were generally well received by both and are pretty close to my own thoughts.
Ep3 scored way higher than I'd give it. Surprised it was so high on RT.
Ep4/5 were the worst of the season for me and they have the 2nd and 3rd lowest combined score. Surprised Ep4 got a 7.2 on RT.
Ep6 I'm surprised by how low the IMDB score is. I'd give it a 6-7.

IMO Ep1/Ep2 > Ep6 > Ep3 > Ep5 > Ep4

The final two scenes of the second last season should’ve been Dany snapping and genociding Kings Landing, and ending on her speech about world domination. Fade to black, see you in twelve months, let’s see how they solve this in the final ten episodes.

A final episode rarely ties up all loose ends or leaves all fans feeling satisfied so I went in with low expectations.

After what can only be described as a ridiculously rushed final season, I will cop 95% of how they finished the stories/arcs.....However Bran as King makes no sense, NO FKN SENSE!!!

I saw the TAB had a market open on Ruler at the end of the show and heading into this week he was 1.33 favourite and I still refused to believe it.

You build up a character over 8 seasons who gives up his original identity, becomes this spiritual being more so than a human and then at the end just make him King even though previously he said it wasn’t his calling, was just really facepalm inducing.

I know GOT is famous for throwing up the unexpected but it still has to to tie in and make some sort of sense in the long run.

It killed it for me.

Anyone else think that the way Jon killed Dany was out of character? He is supposed to be honourable like ned, but what he did was more of a backstab than Jaimie did to earn the name Kingslayer

I'm not saying it shouldn't of been him that killed her, it definitely should have been, but I thought he would somehow "arrest" her, have her put on trial, then be the one to swing the sword (the man who passes the sentence should swing the sword)

Would of been a nice nod to the "madman" that was executed by Ned in the first episode

I don't really understand how the king situation works and I've been trying to make sense of it

Cersei was queen
Daenerys conquered/burned down Kings Landing. She has already claimed she is rightful queen of Westeros
Daenerys is killed by Jon, who is both heir of Aerys and the rightful claimant to the throne instead of Daenerys, and her second-in-command/lover so would be the rightful king as he is technically both heir and conqueror
Tyrion and Jon are imprisoned but Grey Worm (who is the current leader?) listens to traitor Tyrion for some reason. After 8 seasons of bickering turns out no-one wants the throne - so lets all vote for a King, cause that's how monarchy works, and let's all choose the guy who can't have kids and isn't even from the realm as his kingdom decides to be independent, even though this makes him the rightful King of the North. Bran then banishes rightful heir Jon to the Night's Watch which no longer exists and isn't under his rule as the Wall isn't part of the Six Kingdoms.
Everyone wanted their own kingdom before, now everyone is happy to be under this one guy they've never heard of? Everybody except his own sister of course. Did they elect a king just to punish Jon so Grey Worm would piss off?

Perhaps
He just didn’t have any power or authority to do anything else except kill her right then and there, he needed to be the queens slayer to save millions

Let’s not forget back in season 1 Ned didn’t want anything to do with the plot to assassinate Dany when ordered by Robert at the small council. He gave up being hand because he didn’t want to dishonour himself. Ironically, that would’ve been the best decision

Yeah, stupid of Tyrion the prisoner to just proclaim “this is how it’s going to be from now on”

But Westeros does have precedence of a great council who select a king/queen after succession problems. The show, as usual didn’t portray this important information properly

Also did the Unsullied work out how to interbreed with each other despite the fact they are all c*ckless blokes?

There looked to be more of them in that episode then what she originally inherited despite being absolutely hammered in the battle of the dead.

Now that its all one and dusted, I wonder if there will be any off shoot TV shows, so to speak.

If it were to happen I guess Arya's adventures where the maps end could be an adventure especially with her skills, but I would think it wouldn't be played by Maisie as she'd be concerned about type cast to one character for all her acting life.
