Word is the Samoa game of the tour has been binned...now it's just 4 games...

Interesting, I would have thought Fiji would be the game to drop if they are hoping to play most of the games in NZ.
According to Wikipedia there’s only 7000 Fijians in NZ with almost 100,000 in Oz.

I wasn't serious Spud.
I've followed the International game long enough to realise that a Tour that yawnion could organise and complete with a blink of an eye is way beyond the scope of a sport that has had only 120 years to evolve..

According to this article NZ aren't even confirmed as hosts yet

Meanwhile, Peters says a decision will be made soon on whether New Zealand will host a tour by the British Lions later this year. The schedule for the tour has already been drawn up, but it comes down to whether it all stacks up financially.

"It's very close to either a go or a no go," Peters said.

"That decision will be made next week.

"We're still working towards a positive outcome, but there are a number of stakeholders in the mix who all have different things that need to be considered and one of the biggest things is the overall risk or success of the commercial testing, which we're currently evaluating.

"It looks positive, but there are a number of elements we need to tick off yet."

You can guarantee the major stumbling block is that the NRL dont give a f**k because the Kangaroos arent involved because they have a botched TV deal which relegates non-tournament internationals as a free inclusion. So they'll do nothing to ensure players are available and likely be deliberate antagonists, ala the Denver Test.

There's meant to be a 2-tier Pacific Cup this year too isn't there? No word of that in a while
Australia, NZ, Tonga
and Samoa, Fiji, PNG

Very dissappointing . Looks like the NRL and ARLC are not taking note of the advice given to them about 4 years ago to grow the codes international relevance. A professor David Rowe advised the rugby league executive to increase the international relevance of rugby league or see it slowly perish or become a more minor code into the future. Dissappointingly, it doesn't look like the Australian rugby league are following this advice at all.

Does the NRL deal cover Kiwis tests? If so, why? You'd think it would be up to the NZRL to sell TV rights for Kiwis tests, particularly those that don't include the Kangaroos.

I imagine the NRL deal would cover games between Australia & NZ....of which the nzrl got a slice..

But NZ games v anyone else shouldnt have nothing to do with the NRL TV deal

Really?

PNG Hunters into the Australian system
Fijian club on the cusp of joining the Australian system
Annual PMXIII matches v PNG (I'd love this to be a full test, but baby steps)
NZ Warriors in the NRL
Kangaroos paycuts to pay Tongan players
Introduction and funding of the annual Pacific tests which has grown into an Oceania Championship
Annual matches v NZ Kiwis
Until very recently subsidising of Kiwi player payments

I mean, they aren't perfect and there are things they could do better but to state that they are not growing the game and the international presence of it is false.

The word used was dissappointing . An extremely relevant and established sporting rivalry (Lions v Kangaroos) has not been seen live in NSW Australia for decades. That should have happened. The lack of FTA tv coverage for the deemed "replacement" of no Lions v Kangaroos match is also poor organising. Seems like the code is being constrained to the Pacific and not given relevance on other parts of the world?! That's dissappointing.

The Pacific is in the immediate region of the NRL. They are not going to go and develop the game in Europe when the RFL and RLEF have got it covered are they? What do want from them? Their primary focus is and should be on developing the game in Australia and they have gone beyond that and helped NZ and their pacific neighbours.

OMG! You are truelly ignorant of cultural and historical relevance and rivalry! That's all I'll state.
