Tevita Pangai would be an excellent trade. Amazing prospect, as good as -- probably better than, any young forward we have at the club. Furthermore, it would be a credit to the club to make that trade happen as he's a player the Raiders would hate to lose.

But the idea of Newcastle playing hardball instead of lying down and taking whatever's available is too much of a dream to happen.

TPJ is contracted at the Raiders through till the end of 2016
I dont think the Raiders would be silly enough to make him available for a player we're going to get anyways. On the off chance we ARE that silly, great deal for the Knights. TPJ is a potential gun.

If any of you Knights fans get the chance to speak to BJ, look him in the eye and ask him why the Roosters cut him loose. This guy is an absolute cretin on the highest order.

Toohey has reaffirmed that the club don't want Shillo cos wait for it...... His age. We will sign a 35 year old backrower but won't sign a bloke who played origin in 2013 prior to injury setting him back. I doubt Shillo would want his current Raiders deal. He and his manager would be aware they aren't going to get it. Sounds like the powers that be are making excuses. Craig Smith was 34 when we signed him and he was a machine for us. Still lives here too. Newie might struggle to get them but when we do they generally do not want to go. Hell Beau has opnely said his only reasons for going are purely cos he has no other choice. He loves this club.

:sarcasm: And didn't they sign Willie Mason this year?

the club should just come out and say that Shillington is not what they want. It is more respectful to him and our club.

I think I would prefer us focusing on the little bonfire we are lighting under the management which has put them under the spotlight. They have their agenda on the Leilua situation which in fairness he started. However if they are truly knocking Raiders players back and are looking at ESL options and other clubs as well then we should give them till June 30. The ESL option is probably the most likely scenario and I would not be surprised if there are a bunch of forwards over there who will jump at the chance to play NRL. If we sign Bird now though we will look like hypocrites given we sited Shillo's age as the big factor with him. Birdy is 31 this year. Pangai has said no via Twitter.

Good news.
We tried to throw Joel Edwards into the deal but you guys said no. Small mercies eh. Actually when healthy he's been pretty good for us.

Nicholls also discussed as a possible trade target. TPJ ruled himself out stating Canberra is home, and Raiders unwilling to move Shillington which is convenient as the Knights dont want to take on old washed up has beens at age 31. :/

Could you imagine the outrage if we swapped bj for Edwards

Like others have mentioned Midley will probably swap BJ for some magic beans lol.

I'm at the stage though I just want him gone regardless of trades. We need that attitude out of the club.

For the record it is good to hear the club aren't just happy to settle for anyone. It's fine to take just anyone in exchange for the rest of the year but whoever was in exchange would also be part of the squad/cap for the next season or two as well so we don't want it to be a dud we took out of desperation.

The only players I'd be interested in exchange from Canberra are Cornish/Williams or Shillington (obviously they wouldn't release Boyd or Austin). Shillington seems like a good option given he's a prop but of course it would come down to how much he wanted, length of contract, etc. He's been good lately but looked completely done before that and we don't exactly get the best out of props.

Big relief. Just hope we're not doing anything stupid like continuing to pay him while he plays for Canberra.
