We signed Aku to a 5 year deal for $500k a year 6 months after he'd lost all his rep jumpers and not surprisingly he hasn't come close to seeing any of those jumpers since, brilliant piece of business from Gids.

If I recall Aku had a couple of poor games for NSW but at the time he was still in good form for us. The decline seemed to coincide with that contract being signed which highlights the importance of being careful who you give long term contracts to.

Part of leiluas money went to smith
Personally I don't see why Jeremy Smith's money didn't go to Jeremy Smith. Surely we either were going to re-sign him, or replace him. In fact, you can't have it any other way because you need 25 players in your top 25... so I'm absolutely f**ked how we've managed to tit that one up so badly.

If we're paying Smith more... or even the same next year as we are this year, then we're f**king idiots.

If gagai got a $150k upgrade, Sione $300k, pat and Chanel 100k, that should still leave us with 400k left over.

But knowing our club sione probably got 400k and his brothers 200k each to run around in nsw cup.

I know we re-signed Jezza but surely we didn't give him an upgrade.

Mamo, randell and korbin with upgrades too. Then we give mickey paea a juicy deal. Not much left over. All the talk is there is not much left over, and we are targeting a prop on a cheap deal.

Which makes me think we'll swap bj for Joel Edwards! Fits the profile. Cheap, local, shit.

Taking Eddy back would be so us. Shit player that rubbished the club on the way out. Reminds me of that Nint Clewton guy.

I do feel that if we can't get Shillo... SURELY someone at the club will be smart enough to realise that Canberra have like 4 or 5 halves that they don't need... and that we do. Cornish would have to be busting his nut to get a run somewhere at the moment... I'd be shocked if he wouldn't take a 1 or 2 year deal for peanuts and the chance to play first grade regularly... and Williams looks to be coming good. We'll probably take McCrone, though. He's a steaming pile of shit - so will fit in well.

Surely we could back end Shillos contract to ensure we don't go over the cap. Or do we need to give Mids and Hages a calculator

I'd prefer to give them both a deluxe uppercut at this point. I wish I had a dollar for every bad decision Hages has made on behalf of our club...

So... We lose BJ who would be on 300k... Yet don't have any money to put an offer to shillington?

I wonder what we plan on doing with BJs money? More contract upgrades to our nsw cup players no doubt.

But surely, after losing Boyd, Scott, gidley, Leilua, Buderus since last year to the end of this season, around $1.6-$1.8m is salary cap and only picking up Tariq and STOCKWELL. We would surely have around $1mil of cap space. Upgrades for the matautias and gagai surely wouldn't equate to a million in salary cap.

If gagai got a $150k upgrade, Sione $300k, pat and Chanel 100k, that should still leave us with 400k left over.

I know we re-signed Jezza but surely we didn't give him an upgrade.

We are currently still paying some of Boyds salary (insanity to the extreme!). Next year we won't be, so you would think that this would sure up some more cash along with the other players you mentioned. If we don't have cap space, then the management seriously needs to step aside.

Really? How the f**k can that be? How can he be under 2 salary caps? I thought we just paid him out, but to also have him still under our salary cap is ridiculous. How can that be within the rules?

Apparently we have targeted Tavita Pangai.

He is a Knights junior, apparently that is all that matters.

In all seriously he is huge and young, but you just know that they looked through the list and discounted anyone not from Newcastle. Just thank our lucky stars we aren't targeting Eddie.

Tevita Pangai is an absolute beast, played in all the same junior teams as Sione when he was at the knights and looked every bit as good as Sione. I'd rather we tangled $200k at him than Jeremy smith

He was still quite good for us but fact is there was a reason why he lost all his rep jumpers, because they'd exposed weaknesses in his game which meant he was no longer the best winger in the game, yet despite this we buckled and gave him a ridiculous contract for a guy who was only ever going to a winger and who was not even a rep player at the time.
Hometown clubs generally get players to re-sign for abit of a discount as the player is settled and doesn't need to relocate, we overpaid by a long way and by a ridiculous length of contract to keep a guy who is a junior, no other club in the NRL would've done the same to keep their own player
