Goodbye Mt Smart, hello North Shore

If they are forced out of mt smart what is the feeling about eden park as a full time venue? At the very least closer than albany

The whole thing just reeks and these so called councillors must be a massive bunch of idiots to come to this conclusion. And another cricket ground just what are they thinking!

What do folks on the ground think is the most likely solution?

Would people really go 90 minutes south rather than cross the harbour?

EXACTLY - why would you, its at least an extra 20min drive. Warriors have the opportunity to build a classy set up out of North Shore. Embrace it and turn this dammed club around. Maybe stick to one home jersey also - go back to the blue jersey they began with.

I do not think Albany is the best option either, actually i think its the worst. It clearly alienates the mainstay of the warriors fan base and the north shore is well known as being rugby union centric so any localized support will be limited to say the least.

I don'y normally talk of conspiracy theories, but the grand stupidity of the whole scheme just stinks of trying to undermine the warriors and leagues recent popularity.

If they have to become a travelling road show in order to convince the auckland authorities that they are needed and re-divert the funds appropriately then so be it. Have 4 at eden park, 4 at wellington and 4 elsewhere.

Its a great pity this is happening now while the games strategy and footprint is under review. I am sure the feasibility of a second NZ side in the NRL will be looked a and this farce is doing that no favours.

You've heard several reasons why this won't work, but chosen to ignore them.

I reckon an equal amount of South Aucklanders would go to Hamilton as would go to Albany. And plenty more Hamiltonians would go than North Shore-ites.

This is the ultimate low that Auckland Council does not want the Warriors anymore. Say what you want but this franchise has failed so badly they are on the verge of being done, busted and dusted. Watson owning the Warriors saved them to begin with but he pretty much failed in his ownership of this franchise.

Warriors leave Auckland then what does that truly say ? 90% of their players come from Auckland. They need to drive over that dam bridge every day and remember exactly what they do for a living, they are stuck in the same day same dam shit attitude of South and East Auckland. Fans think its to far to drive to the north shore, well F@ck them then, A marketing team with vision could turn North Shore into the home of the Warriors, rebirth them into a real deal power player - Everyone;s reactions so far are defensive, wanting to defend this hopeless set up, screw that make them move and make them rebuild. Forget the fans, think about the franchise first

Totally missing the point. A change of venue and jersey is not going to improve the Warriors. (If a change of jerseys insured success we would have won the comp by now.)
Improved players and coaching staff will.

Do you really believe that?

Though, I see your point about moving to Hamilton.

The rest of your arguement is intrinsically flawed. Essentially you are arguing that the Warriors need a better class of supporter. Thus alienating the majority of supporters of Rugby League in favour of the the other half, who will always support Rugby Union.
This is New Zealand not Australia. That will never happen.

When was the last time that you seen a Super Rugby game in Auckland with a more than half full stadium? Would You suggest that they abolish the Blues because they are a long-standing Joke in NZ? Would you suggest the Blues got moved to North Harbour for good?

Wayne Scurrah was a great marketer. One of the few things you could fault the Warriors for in the last few years was their marketing. For the last few years we have had some of the higher membership numbers in the NRL. I just can't see a move to a white elephant in Albany improving that.

This stinks of a done deal, and is almost definitely going ahead. What a disaster and absolute bullshit. Putting a roof on North Harbour for 12 million, yeah right. Len Brown you are a joke, and Auckland is about to turn on you viciously.

f**k the fans. That's a winning strategy!

Blah blah blah marketing blah blah relocate to the end of the earth blah blah new jerseys blah blah.

We need a top-class coach.

We had one in 2001 and he made the finals first year, then the GF the following and had a great run the next. Mt Smart was perfectly fine to everyone at that stage.

We had one again in 2006, who overcame the salary cap shite to make finals in his first non-penalised year, made the finals every year apart from the Sonny Fai season, then a GF in 2011. And we let him go.

How many times have we made finals outside of those two coaches? ZERO.

So forget about your North Shore pipe dreams, changing our name to the Kauris/Ponga Ferns or whatever rubbish...we need a coach.

I'm not defending a lot of bad things about our club but when you look at two coaches who coached a combined 10 years and made 7 finals series, and 8 other coaches who made ZERO combined, it sticks out like dog's balls.

You read what I wrote wrong, I am stating the Warriors lose because their environment is wrong, by being forced to shift over the bridge and set up a new structure the players they bring across from South Auckland will have a mind shift to professionalism. Set up a player academy and get these guys footy smart, focused, educated and active clever decision makers.

Fans will return, doesn't matter that it is at the north shore, they will also invite a lot more upmarket fans to support them. League has a strong support following on the north shore. People by large in Auckland who like rugby also like league, the conspiracy days of rugby and league and in large gone.

The warriors environment has always been wrong, maybe the council knows this and is sick of having a constant losing franchise there? Warriors should embrace this change and restructure the franchise. A brand new Stadium with a roof, an academy, I think the Warriors can negotiate big on this one. Warriors win games they will sell out QBE Stadium over 14 odd season games

To recap: That's two coaches in our 20-year history, who coached 10 years between them and made every single one of our 7 finals appearances.

Eight others who in the other 10 years contributed zero.

I still don't know what compels you to think QBE will sell out, Mr Lion. If you were pitching that as a business model you'd have not one shred of evidence to back it up.

In a twenty-team comp we would have made the top-eight in our first year, but for that inter-change stuff up in our 3rd game or so. We lost two competition points for using five interchange players instead of four.

We thrashed the Magpies in that game.

The boo boo was only spotted by a journalist later on, not the coaches, players, fans or the NRL (ARL).

I don't think she was invited to too many Warriors functions after that.
